Job Description

The Accounting Application and Financial Analyst Manager role will be an instrumental position within our fast-growing Managed Accounting Solutions (MAS) practice area.  The individual will be responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of business uses for applications to integrate into QuickBooks Online (QBO) or other accounting software utilized by our clients. This person will also be a leader in exploring and recommending software that may benefit clients or the Practice by enhancing reporting or improving efficiency.  The job would also include working with a team on the onboarding and early-stage support for the new clients and for analyzing and resolving any efficiencies or reporting goals that could be solved or achieved via technology for existing clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be the subject matter expert for 3rd party applications that integrate with QBO or other client accounting packages
  • Work with client delivery team to assess the technology solutions and needs for new clients as part of the onboarding process
  • Work with client delivery team to assess the processing efficiencies on each engagement and recommend as well as implement solutions, which may include API’s or other forms of integration
  • In conjunction with the client delivery team, ensure optimal reporting for clients’ needs, which may include the creation of dashboards

Qualifications

Position Summary:

The Tax Director provides tax thought leadership, consulting and training for the firm in the areas of partnerships, affordable housing and tax credits.The ideal candidate would share accountability with partners to ensure that clients are satisfied and that quality services and final products/reports are provided in a timely and accurate manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist developer clients with tax and development accounting through all phases of the LIHTC processing from application to syndication and loan closing

  • Prepare and review financial forecasts for tax credit subsidized transactions

  • Evaluate and extract financial and non-financial data from information provided by clients, including letters of intent, audited financial statements, tax returns, partnership agreements, loan agreements, and other documents

  • Consult with clients on ways to optimize tax credit equity investments by evaluating different ownership structures, federal and state subsidies as well as debt and equity financing options.

  • Participate with clients and project finance team members to discuss issues involved with structuring investments that qualify for federal tax credits from renewable energy, historic rehabilitation and/or new markets tax credits.

  • Develop reference materials and standardize approach and procedures within the tax practice.

  • Document and reference assumptions used in the financial forecasts and projections

  • Prepare summarized financial data reports

  • Assist with accounting, audit and tax engagements with respect to year-end financial statement audits and tax returns as well as cost certifications and cost segregation studies.

  • Develop and deliver training for staff members in area of expertise.

  • Demonstrates and maintains high-level technical knowledge in the tax field.

  • Promotes the interest of the firm and displays leadership at all times.

Qualifications

 

  • BS in Accounting, CPA required, MST preferred.

  • 10+ years’ progressive tax experience, demonstrated knowledge of the affordable housing niche, with strong knowledge of up-to-date tax guidelines

  • Well-versed in all realms of major investment tax credits, including the low-income housing credit (LIHTC), historic (HRTC), new markets (NMTC) and renewable energy tax credits (RETC).

  • Exhibit experience in developing a better knowledge of community development finance and other tax credit subsidized investments

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Consulting and business development experience preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Tax Manager in our Cannabis practice, you will use your expertise in taxation to oversee, manage, and complete tax projects; provide innovative tax planning, consulting, and compliance for a variety of clients in the cannabis industry.  Our cannabis practice is growing at a fast pace, proving opportunities to be part of an exciting and challenging industry.  As a tax professional within AAFCPAs, your job duties will be focused on our core values of technical expertise, hard work, and excellent quality client service.

  • Will review business tax returns including 1120, 1120S and 1065
  • Meet with clients to assess their current needs and propose solutions
  • Develop and sustain strong client relationships to become their most trusted business advisor
  • Keep up-to-date on current tax procedures and changes in tax regulations/laws
  • Actively participate in internal and external tax trainings
  • Plan and manage budgets, billing, and staffing
  • Manage engagements effectively to ensure exceptional client service
  • Train, supervise, and delegate assignments to tax seniors and staff
  • Review complex tax returns and associated workpapers prepared by staff and senior associates and provide timely, specific, and meaningful feedback
  • Lead and mentor staff to meet individual professional development goals
  • Provide constructive feedback to both superiors and subordinates through the semi-annual review process
  • Identify new client and business development opportunities

Qualifications

  • 7+ years public accounting experience with an emphasis on taxation (i.e. Tax Accountant)
  • Experience in private/public accounting working with commercial and cannabis clients
  • Knowledge of 280E and other tax specific nuances with companies working in this industry
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple client engagements with a financial accounting background.
  • Strong experience with corporate tax, tax provision, and multi corporation
  • Strong public accounting management experience
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple high-level works
  • CPA License
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting or Tax

Job Description

IDEAL CANDIDATE   Minimum 5 years experience as a controller or accounting senior/manager within the accounting department of a business or in an outsource accounting company, overseeing process development and systems implementation.  Appreciation for process and finding efficiencies leveraging technology.  Must love a great company culture and working both individually and with a strong team.

AAFCPAs is seeking a knowledgeable business process and information systems selection consultant who is fully competent, highly ethical, and driven to ensure a positive client experience for the firm’s distinct but integrated Business & IT Consulting Practice. This rapidly growing practice area of the firm advises clients on business processes and best practices.  Through Business Process Assessments, we aim to understand each client’s process and provide insight into technology and workflow improvements that could save them time and money.  Clients will often continue to engage the AAF team in selecting a software solution that will aid in the identified efficiencies. 

The Accounting Process and Systems Consultant is responsible for providing solutions for a diverse client base, ranging from a few to thousands of employees and from manufacturing to non-profits.  As the Accounting Process and Systems Consultant, you will work with the rest of the business process team to identify business process improvements and implement solutions as needed.  The scope is typically around areas of transactional accounting, so experience in developing and implementing accounting process is a must.  The scope can also touch on CRM, HR, and IT topics, so additional knowledge is encouraged.  Due to the nature of the solutions, we provide, understanding contemporary ERP systems is also a must, as we must be able to provide reasonable solutions to the client based on existing platforms they could implement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist Practice Director by performing fieldwork on client engagements

Business Process Assessments

  • Interview clients
  • Identify areas for process or system improvements for clients using knowledge of transactional accounting experience and system functionalities
  • Collaborate with other members of the team depending on the type of systems
  • Write reports detailing client current processes and suggested improvements

System Selections

  • Determine client needs and document in Request For Information provided to software vendors
  • Determine software solutions to include in selection based on client needs
  • Work with software vendors to provide needed information to clients and assist them in an informed decision.

These engagements begin with interviewing the client to gain a complete understanding of their current processes, then documenting current workflows and identifying areas of improvement, either in process or systems.  This requires working knowledge of transactional accounting best practices, modern ERP system functionalities, and other applied solution options, plus developed project management and high-level communication skills for relaying concepts to both the client project points (usually controllers or IT specialists) as well as CEOs, CFOs, and other directors. 

The Accounting Process and Systems Consultant would also assist in the follow-up engagement, if needed, to select software solutions that address the gaps identified during the first phase.  AAFCPAs does not represent a particular solution, but provides options to our clients, along with information from the software reps and our team’s experience to lend to the client making the best decision for their organization.

The team also works on attest and advisory engagements that could diversify your workload as you want. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business.
  • 5 years experience in a managerial role of a business within the accounting department or in an outsource accounting company, overseeing process development and implementation.
  • Experience as a controller or accounting senior/manager in charge of transactional areas is a must.
  • Knowledge of GAAP accounting and process best practices.
  • A broad range of knowledge of industry best practices, such as manufacturing and non-profits.
  • The knowledge base of basic accounting and ERP systems like NetSuite, Intacct, etc. is a must.
  • System implementation experience is a plus.
  • Professional composure and interactions.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Independent worker, able to self-manage workflow and ask questions as needed to optimize personal and others’ time.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.  High-level working knowledge of Excel is a must.
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships.
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing priorities in a rapidly growing, fast-paced, interactive, results-based team environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.

Job Description

The Application and Implementation Specialist role will be instrumental in our fast-growing Managed Accounting Solutions (MAS) practice area.  The individual will be responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of business uses for applications to integrate into QuickBooks Online (QBO) or other accounting software utilized by our clients. The job would also include managing the onboarding and early-stage support for the new clients and analyzing and resolving any efficiencies or reporting goals that could be solved or achieved via technology for existing clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be the subject matter expert for 3rd party applications that integrate with QBO or other client accounting packages
  • Work with client delivery team to assess the technology solutions and needs for new clients as part of the onboarding process
  • Work with client delivery team to assess the processing efficiencies on each engagement and recommend as well as implement solutions, which may include API’s or other forms of integration
  • In conjunction with the client delivery team, ensure optimal reporting for clients’ needs, which may include the creation of dashboards
  • Initial setup of 3rd party applications that the firm and the client will use to collaborate for ongoing financial reporting, document processing, etc.
  • Provide training for new clients and client staff in the use of shared software applications
  • Responsible for remaining current and fully developed in the use of accounting and integrated applications and for providing supportive ongoing training and development to the team
  • Telephone, video conference, and live consultations with clients to review the information during the implementation period
  • Plan, organize, and control multiple responsibilities and resources to achieve assignment objectives
  • Manage the assignment budget and profitability in their area of responsibility
  • Anticipate and communicate budget issues, identifies opportunities to improve assignment profitability, and prepare or assist with billings and collections
  • Identify client needs/opportunities to sell additional value-added services
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities and refers them to the appropriate team members
  • Leverages commercial and market knowledge to anticipate client needs for new/additional services
  • Development of functional specialization and/or industry expertise
  • Design workflow, including internal control processes
  • Develop proposal budgets
  • Assist with scoping proposals

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, business or related field
  • Strong knowledge of accounting processes
  • Demonstrated ability to create APIs, dashboards, and application integration
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Team player with a positive “can-do” approach
  • Demonstrated history of success and client satisfaction
  • Strong technology skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook at a minimum) accounting software, Dashboards, databases, bill.com, QuickBooks, etc.
  • Experience managing a paperless environment strongly preferred
  • Strong and innovative leadership and project management skills, including the ability to mentor talented people
  • General and growing knowledge of firm products and services in the practice area, and general knowledge of products and services in other practice areas
