ALICE is hiring a Remote Remote Senior Frontend Engineer

About the Role:

We take on the complex logistics of running every department in a hotel through a unified platform. Our mission is to improve the hospitality experience through technology built for the industry. Our vision is to build a global operating system for delivering hospitality that guests dream of.

We are looking for a powerful product-minded Front End Engineer to help the team build the next generation of ALICE products and their evolving front-end architecture. As a team of strong individual contributors, we build efficient and resilient systems together that scale globally and operate in real-time.

Our front-end stack: our recent and new projects are done in new Angular. Our older products are in AngularJS. The candidate should feel comfortable having to touch a legacy codebase.

Our back end: Java, Groovy/Grails, Spring MVC, Hibernate, MySQL.

This position has a compensation range of $60,000 to $90,000

Experience Profile: relevant past experience (Requirements) - Qualifications

For FTEs:

  • 5+ years working in front-end web development
  • Excellent Javascript knowledge and programming experience with ES5/ES6.
  • Good knowledge of TypeScript.
  • Extensive experience in HTML5, CSS3, CSS Preprocessors (SASS or LESS), and components frameworks (like Bootstrap or Foundation)
  • Experience with tools like Redux, Webpack, Angular CLI, and/or Gulp
  • Experience with a modern frontend component-based framework (even if we use Angular, we are open to candidates with experience in React, Vue, etc.)
  • Experience with TDD and/or BDD (preferably Jest, Jasmine, Karma, or Chai)
  • Cares about writing unit tests.
  • Experience with client-side architecture and design patterns
  • Awareness of cross-browser compatibility issues and client-side performance considerations
  • An interest and a keen eye for building beautiful, performant UI. The candidate should enjoy engaging with designers and product managers.
  • A basic understanding of how backend works (nothing too crazy, but should be able to add a column to an existing SQL table and propagate the CRUD of it to the front-end)
  • Experience consuming REST APIs
  • Algorithms and Data structures knowledge, knows about computational complexity.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git.

Nice to have-s:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Angular practices and commonly used modules based on extensive work experience
  • Experience developing APIs
  • Knowledge of mobile app development frameworks like Ionic or React Native
  • Experience with Java
  • Experience with relational DBs (like MySQL or PostgreSQL)

For contractors we want someone being able to contribute more immediately, without long term planning:

  • Experience with Angular a MUST
  • a CS or relevant degree and Algorithm/data structures knowledge is less important.
  • Less emphasis on communication with designers and product people, as building a working relationship long term between them is less important.

ALICE is hiring a Remote Senior Product Manager

About the role:

AtALICE,product managers play an integral role in defining the future. Senior product managers, in particular, take on an even more exciting set of responsibilities: mentoring and leading up and coming product managers. As we grow our portfolio, the impact a senior product manager has magnifies. In addition to owning a specific product, defining product requirements, and establishing strategic roadmaps, senior product managers serve as leaders within the product organization, not just to their direct product teammates, but to the entire company, as well. The duties of mentoring and developing product managers has just as much, if not more, impact than overseeing the development of a product, and that aspect of the senior product manager role makes it truly critical for achieving our objectives.

We are seeking a dedicated, well-organized, driven, ready-to-take-on-new-challenges, growth-minded senior product manager who enjoys not only every day problem solving but strategic planning, as well. A senior product manager atALICEmust have a vested interest in delighting customers, coaching and monitoring teammates, and constantly pursuing a master of the product management craft.

As a senior product manager, key traits we seek are accountability, communicability, ownership, tenacity, and flexibility. It’s crucial that a senior product manager can stay organized and set priorities while managing the needs of both internal and external stakeholders. They must know their product and serve as the voice of the customer, while being an SME to the company, as well. They need to also think strategically, and develop a keen sense of appropriate prioritization and opportunity costs. When there are impediments, they must quickly own them and communicate them to stakeholders to ensure the company is well aware of any delays or changes so they’re not caught off guard. With respect to flexibility, a senior product manager must work with the team to “right size” projects, negotiate on costs against requirements, and find the solutions to the problems. With this role comes the expectation of mentorship, as well. Senior product managers are the go-to product leaders for our up-and-coming product team. They must lead by example and via coaching, and that elevated role not only helps our teammates but the senior product manager, as well.

Lastly, a senior product manager atALICEmust truly enjoy learning. With this role, the expectation is that it’s the first step in the progression to become a director of product management. We believe that the best way to produce effective product leaders is to focus their vision, at first, and let them grow within ALICE while providing a great sense of guided autonomy. We believe the natural fruits of this endeavor are excellence by the senior product manager AND the team around them. Learning the product, the market, and how to lead people is key, and a senior product manager should carry this with the highest regard.

Salary compensation for this role is $115,000-140,000

Experience Profile: Relevant past experience

  • 5-8 years of product management experience (working with SCRUM teams is a plus)
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience in managing projects and motivating teams/individuals
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to work with external customers, many of whom are not technically minded, to get to the heart of their true problems to solve
  • Extremely analytical, structured and experienced in handling several projects at the same time and high stakeholder demands
  • Passionate about consumer product experience with a history of managing projects that facilitate or enhance customer experiences
  • Capable of owning an advanced product, growing it smartly, and balancing priorities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, team-oriented, and cross-functional environment
  • Experience in working with Product, Engineering, and Quality to execute software projects in an Agile Environments
  • Led and/or mentored product teammates
  • Hospitality and/or hospitality tech experience a plus

Responsibilities:

  • Own the life cycle of strategic product development from discovery to release and beyond
  • Set product strategy, aligning projects and improvements with company OKRs to ensure we’re producing the right improvements at the right time
  • Drive product development and work closely with users, customers, and vendors to discover and define the scope of the project, discover the relevant requirements, and work to ensure an engineering team has what’s needed to build it through to completion per your guidance.
  • Collaborate with product owners, engineers, designers, and testers, providing sound product requirement information, and negotiating on solutions details to ensure features are build to the product manager’s requirements
  • Perform functional/acceptance testing for new features, ultimately signing off on what goes to market
  • Own betas, feedback loops, and other methods for refining product improvements
  • Ensure that releases are holistic - having a grasp on how to properly disseminate product information to key stakeholders (marketing, sales, customer success, etc).
  • Mentor other product managers, and serve as a resident leader within the organization, and assist product leadership in ensuring that product deliverables are on track
