CivicScience is hiring a Remote Lead/Principal Software Engineer - Adtech

The engineer will serve as a key technical architect and developer for CivicScience’s activation and identity systems, including our new Rulo adtech platform. We’re looking for someone with an entrepreneurial flair to help us build this business on the foundation of our successful consumer insights platform.

The lead engineer will have a solid grounding in advertising technology, understanding the end-to-end flow of how data and ads move between and among publishers, brands, agencies, and service providers. They also understand how to design for the massive scale that adtech systems achieve both in terms of transaction and data loads and the high levels of resiliency demanded of such platforms..

Successful candidates also will be expert at both the long and short game: evaluating emerging technologies and finding solutions to pressing product needs, while rolling up their sleeves to design and develop ultimate solutions along with the rest of the activation and identity engineering team.

This position can be based in New York City or Pittsburgh with periodic in-office work or remote anywhere in the US with quarterly trips for all-company meetings. We also are open to schedule flexibility such as four-day weeks and part-time for candidates seeking non-traditional arrangements.

 

You will:

  • Serve as the technical lead for CivicScience’s activation and identity efforts, with responsibility for our adtech products such as  audience management, interfaces to demand and supply side platforms, as well as identity and privacy management for all products.
  • Design, develop, and support a platform that applies the value of CivicScience consumer insights to programmatic advertising for brands, publishers, and agencies.
  • Collaborate on an identity management strategy and technology tools that leverages CivicScience’s strong first-party relationships to  address the upcoming demise of third-party cookies.
  • Practice good technical hygiene regarding work such as clean code and clear documentation..
  • Contribute to the overall architecture and technical direction of the broader CivicScience platform.
  • Monitor the evolving space of ad and martech platforms and provide planning on how to evolve data storage and processes over time.

 

Desired skills/experience:

  • 8+ years experience with hands-on Internet-scale application development, with ability to roll up your sleeves and help solve engineering problems. Experience in an early- or growth-stage start-up a plus.
  • 3+ years experience in engineering at an adtech and martech provider or working with advertising technologies in a brand, publisher, or agency.
  • Understanding of how data and transactions flow in the adtech ecosystem and basic knowledge of adtech three-letter acronyms.. Familiarity with leading IAB standards surrounding programmatic a strong plus.
  • Builder mentality -- you think in terms of how technology can solve business problems, and have demonstrated success in creating products that make an impact.
  • Deep toolbox of architectural patterns for high-volume data and services running in a cloud environment, with thoughtful balance between short-term pragmatism and long-term maintainability. 
  • Fluency in Java and/or Python.
