Clipboard Health is hiring a Remote Senior Software Engineer, Platform

Why Clipboard Health Exists:

We exist to lift as many people up the socioeconomic ladder as possible. We dramatically improve lives, by letting healthcare professionals turn extra time and ambition into career growth and financial opportunity. We achieve this with our app-based marketplace that connects healthcare facilities and healthcare professionals, allowing healthcare professionals to book on-demand shifts and healthcare facilities to access on-demand talent. Our mission is to enable healthcare professionals to work when and where they want, and to enable healthcare facilities to meet their talent needs.

About Clipboard Health:

Clipboard Health is a post-Series C, extremely fast-growing tech startup with classic two-sided network effects, revolutionizing the market for healthcare talent. We are a diverse and inclusive company with a global, remote team. We have been named one of YC’s Top Companies for two years running, and have grown 25x across all key metrics in the last 18 months. There has never been a more exciting time to join our growing team and help us serve even more healthcare professionals and healthcare facilities, who can then better serve patients. To learn more about the culture at Clipboard Health, take a look at our culture hub here.

Here are some frequently asked questions about our engineering team. you can also read about our work on our engineering careers page.

About the Platform Team

The Platform team at Clipboard Health builds the tools and infrastructure to allow us to ship high quality software incredibly fast. Our team tackles some of the hardest engineering challenges we have at the company and the projects we ship are used by nearly every engineer at the company and affect all of our customers.

Our team recently led the charge to converting our largest application from once per week deploys to Continuous Deployment with over 50 deployments every day. We also pioneered an integration testing approach that has improved our practical coverage and confidence (particularly during refactors) while requiring less test code. A few other interesting projects that we’ve worked on include:

  • Standardizing deferred work via background jobs
  • Standardizing interservice communication via async messages
  • Building a load testing framework to simulate 5x peak traffic against key endpoints

We have big ambitions about what we can build on the Platform team, and we have the unique opportunity of modernizing the technology infrastructure for a hypergrowth startup. A few ideas for what we might work on next include:

  • A new library to standardize logs, metrics, and traces that are emitted from our applications to reduce noise and help debugging
  • Managing configuration in our services via code to enable a GitOps workflow
  • A centralized authentication provider to improve performance and security

We’re looking for highly skilled software engineers to join the Platform team to help us build the platform on which a billion dollar company sits.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience in professional software development

We’re looking for engineers who are passionate about:

  • Performance
  • Distributed systems
  • Security
  • Observability
  • Automation and developer productivity

About our process

We believe that the best way to evaluate software engineers is to see them work, so we do our best to simulate an actual work environment with actual work problems (with the obvious constraint that we don’t want to take up too much of your, or our time with interviews). This makes our process a bit unusual, but we hope more enjoyable and a better way for you to showcase your skills.

In short, our process is:

  • A 2 hour asynchronous work simulation including a programming problem, code review, and debugging - regardless of the outcome, we’ll provide feedback on your performance on thi section
  • A 1 hour synchronous coding interview with an engineer on our team
  • A 2 hour asynchronous session to create a new technical design in writing
  • A 1 hour system design interview, primarily focused on your submitted technical design

Perks of Working with Us

  • Do meaningful work in healthcare for customers who could really use your help.
  • Work on a product with strong product-market fit and a backlog of validated customer problems. If you build it, they will use it.
  • Enjoy fully remote work with zero commutes. There is no “back-to-office” because we were remote from day 1.
  • Being globally remote means we know how to work asynchronously. We work hard, but we also enjoy a flexible personal schedule and unlimited paid time off.

Clipboard Health is hiring a Remote New Verticals Founder

We are a diverse and inclusive company with a global, remote team. We have been named one of YC’s Top Companies for two years running, and have grown 25x across all key metrics in the last 18 months. There has never been a more exciting time to join our growing team and help us serve even more healthcare professionals and healthcare facilities, who can then better serve patients. To learn more about the culture at Clipboard Health, take a look at our culture hub here.

About the Role:

We think we can build many, many more labor marketplaces than “just” our current Long Term Care business. In fact, we’ve already proven that we can run multiple verticals on the same infrastructure. We brought our Dental and Pharmacy verticals to over $1M annualized GMV each without building a single additional feature to support them.

We’ve never had more conviction that the list of attractive opportunities in front of us is as long as we’d hoped, and we have already learned a lot about how to launch and scale verticals. We install what are effectively vertical-level CEOs (“vertical owners,” in our lingo) that push through ambiguity within the following framework:

  1. Discovery: A ~2-week motion where you exclusively speak to operators and professionals in potential next verticals to get signal on the size and quality of the next opportunity.
  2. 0→1: Pushing ruthlessly towards a first transaction with the goal of getting a read on (a) pull from the market (how bad does their problem burn?) and (b) “smoothness” (how quickly do we think we could scale the business with our current infrastructure?).
  3. 1→10: Scaling aggressively to hundreds of transactions per month while building conviction that the end state of the business is financially lucrative (even if the path to get there is costly).
  4. 10→∞: Integrating the vertical into our core marketplace, i.e. systematizing our core motions like demand generation, supply acquisition, pricing, and launching new markets, with the goal of ultimately firing yourself as CEO to launch another vertical.

For those who get excited by the idea of building something out of nothing, we think being a vertical owner is the ideal role.

  • Enjoy extreme ownership over what will hopefully become a large business that delivers an excellent experience to customers. Work on one of the company's primary growth objectives over the next 5+ years.
  • Get reps being fast and scrappy in a culture that applauds + rewards creative solutions and crazy ideas, and has a large taste for well-considered risks. Learn through osmosis alongside an excellent team that will push you to perform your best.
  • Have the backing of a $1.3B-valued company and all of its resources.

Benefits:

  • $90k-$200k total compensation
  • Do great work that matters for customers who could really use your help.
  • Move at the speed of your thinking.
  • Zero commute. Work wherever you are, globally (but on or around US Pacific Time hours)

*After submitting your application, please check your inbox as well as your spam folder periodically over the next few days for updates.

Clipboard Health is hiring a Remote Associate Product Manager

Why Clipboard Health Exists:

We exist to lift as many people up the socioeconomic ladder as possible. We dramatically improve lives, by letting healthcare professionals turn extra time and ambition into career growth and financial opportunity. We achieve this with our app-based marketplace that connects healthcare facilities and healthcare professionals, allowing healthcare professionals to book on-demand shifts and healthcare facilities to access on-demand talent. There has never been a more exciting time to join our growing team and help us serve even more healthcare professionals and healthcare facilities, who can then better serve patients. To learn more about the culture at Clipboard Health, take a look at our culture hub here.

About the Role:

The Associate Product Manager – New Grad position is designed to grow undergraduates into product leaders. APMs at Clipboard Health move quickly, with high ownership and good judgment from day 1. Previous APMs have scaled operational processes, written new pricing algorithms from scratch, and built new products all on their own.On their own = they were given a problem → they wrote an excellent plan that solved the problem → they executed that plan with full ownership.

Our APMs are generalists who work closely with our executive team. Instead of coming in with a toolkit and looking for problems it can solve (which often leads to incremental problem solving), they focus on the biggest problems and quickly devise new ways to solve them from first principles. Doing this from day 1 requires that our APMs are boundlessly curious and jump right into understanding our business, our users, and our product. We think that their curiosity and the ability to dive deep ultimately equips them to be excellent contributors and effective leaders.

Ownership is notgivento APMs once we think they are able to lead projects. APMs areexpectedto lead important projects from the get-go. Their plans and the quality of their execution are met with the same level of scrutiny as that of a Group Product Manager’s. We think that doing the work and getting feedback on it is one of the fastest (perhaps the fastest) ways to learn and grow, but it’s not the best path for everyone. We encourage you to think deeply about if that’s something you want.

I’d read the following docs from our team prior to applying: the Product Team Standards, Product Team Recruiting, and Product Team Structure. These documents will give you a sense of how we think and what we value. We also have more links about team and company culture on our candidate website.

In your first 30 days you’ll:

  • Talk to customers, understand their problems, and surface issues we weren’t devoting enough attention to
  • Ramp up on the business, the product, and how we work
  • Design and run marketplace experiments to validate hypotheses
  • Write weekly write-ups and other documentation to keep others abreast of your work

In your first 90 days you’ll:

  • Own an important problem on your own
  • Write a plan (you may have to write several drafts) that proposes a solution to the problem
  • Broadcast the plan to relevant stakeholders, get their feedback, and adjust it
  • Execute on the plan and report findings to the executive team

You can’t be successful here if you:

  • Don’t enjoy writing. We write a lot, and we hold our writing to a high standard. If you aren’t comfortable being scrutinized on not only the content but the clarity of your writing week over week, our culture won’t be a good fit for you.
  • Want to know what to do. In your role as an APM, you’ll regularly be given tasks that are seemingly ambiguous. You will have to use your judgment to bring clarity to it. You may even propose that the task isn’t something we should focus on today. That’s okay too.
  • Don’t like working with data or math. As a marketplace company, we have a highly quantitative culture. Our language is steeped in numbers.
  • Don’t enjoy talking to customers. We talk to our customers day in and day out. Our customer conversations are an integral part of how we make decisions.
  • Don’t want an intellectual challenge. The problems we face are novel and challenging, and we expect people to solve them quickly. If you aren’t looking for an intellectual challenge in your role, this won’t be a good fit.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation
  • Unlimited vacation
  • 100% remote with tri-annual offsites

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience selling to hospitals (if the Chief Nursing Officer or Chief Human Resources Officer was involved in the buying process, that is a huge plus).
  • Proven top performer in previous sales roles. You consistently achieved quota and were in the top 20% of your peers.
  • Comfortable creating new sales motions and iterating on your own process, adapting quickly, and writing on progress and strategy.

  • Must be based in North America, with ability and willingness to occasionally travel (for example to conferences and prospect visits).

Benefits:
