As a company we have made a bold decision in support of our infinite game: Shopify has declared office centricity over. We believe that heads-down and focused work is best done as individuals, remotely - and so we will no longer support individual desking in our physical spaces. We also believe collaboration, creativity, and deep relationship building is best done in intentional, synchronous, in-person moments. We are looking for the best designers out there to join our Design Management team and support our growing network of Warehouses and Fulfillment Center’s (or Centre’s if you’re Canadian).
Designer Managers aim to enhance the quality of life, productivity, and culture of Shopifolk. We achieve this through ownership of all creative direction and technical aspects with thoughtful implementation of functional programming. We lead innovative design solutions that promote longevity while ensuring they meet all health and safety requirements.

A strategic creative thinker with the desire to challenge norms, push boundaries and explore new territory
A storyteller that uses design and conceptual thinking to bring ideas to life
A design fundamentalist that approaches projects with rational and an innovative mindset
Curious and passionate for design; keeping a finger on the pulse of the industry
Active within the design community, taking part in conferences, talks, and other networking opportunities.
Flexible, and excellent at time-management, what’s the most impactful thing that can be delivered now, and what can be strategically phased in later.
What you’ll be doing:
Supporting the design process for new Shopify warehouses across the globe (travel may be required);
Working with external architects, designers, and engineers to ensure the interior design of our spaces meets our standards and requirements;
Thorough technical review and coordination of all drawings submitted by consultants;
Collaborating with internal teams on Shopify requirements;
Leading multiple complex projects with interdisciplinary teams;
Creating interior design content;
Taking responsibility for the timely delivery of decisions and drawings for construction execution;
Gathering consensus among stakeholders with differing views.
Experience in a Prime Consultant role leading and managing creative teams working on complex warehouse and fulfillment projects;
5+ years experience designing warehouses or fulfillment centers, bonus if they have been located in the USA
Multidisciplinary experience working with Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Communications, AV, and IT consultants;
A passion for promoting design excellence;
Have proficiency with current design tools (including AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Revit);
The drive to thrive on change and be comfortable with doing things unconventionally;
Be extremely organized with great prioritization skills;
NCIDQ, AIA, OAA, RIBA, or equivalent accreditation to your local geography;
Amazing communication skills (visual, written, and verbal).
In order to be considered, please address your application to Miranda Gallen, and don’t forget to attach your portfolio demonstrating your warehouse and fulfillment center experience.
We know that applying to a new role takes a lot of work and we truly value your time. We're looking forward to hearing from you!

You have the ability to identify development opportunities for your team members and develop concrete action plans or goals in order to achieve team success.

Meet regularly with your team 1-1 to ensure they are supported, and equipped for development and success.
Deliver strong business results through impactful coaching.
Create and foster an engaging and supportive culture for their Support Specialists and their peers.
Impact and help drive the success of the remote teams in Canada as we continue to scale and grow support.
What we are looking for in a Team Lead:
You have excellent (and proven) leadership skills and are passionate about developing others. You have the ability to set goals and motivate others to drive the actions and achieve them.
You have experience coaching your reports and teams to success
You have empathy and understand how to build trust and rapport with your team in order to challenge them and facilitate growth.

You are confident in your leadership skills, you trust your judgment and others look up to you for it.
You are resourceful, ask questions and find information like a pro.
You are comfortable in ambiguity and are self-motivated.
Requirements for the role:

Proficiency in one of Shopify's supported languages is a bonus but not a requirement
Be flexible to work on a rotating schedule with rotating weekends and some holidays, with flexible start times.
Be comfortable and productive working from home.
Have an appropriate remote work set-up - such as quiet space, stable internet connection, and a back-up location in case of issues with the primary location
