About the Role:

We are seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to help build a reliable web experience for our users. We believe that moving fast is our competitive advantage, and enables us to better serve our users. We also know that the faster we move, the more likely we are to break things.

You Will:

  • Design and implement SRE practices ensuring availability, scalability and observability of production systems with a strong focus on excellent customer experience
  • Actively seek and identify opportunities to improve the availability and performance of the system by applying the learnings from monitoring and observation.
  • Use automation extensively to design, configure, manage, and monitor systems in support of our product development teams
  • Manage Infrastructure through automation (Infrastructure as Code)

L’équipe Data Services de Mazars, c’est plus de 60 consultants spécialistes de la data, répartis sur 2 hubs (Paris La Défense, New-York).  Ils couvrent l’ensemble de la chaîne de valeur de la donnée : Data Strategy et qualification de cas d’usage, Gouvernance et qualité des données, Data Visualisation, Data Science, Data Engineering et Data Architecture.

The Team

As a key member of the Systems Administration team within Operations Engineering, you will be responsible for the administration and operations of the global cloud infrastructure that runs our SaaS product. This is an opportunity to be at the core of running a Cloud SaaS platform that scales to millions of users!  The Cloud Operations team is responsible for ensuring the availability and efficiency of the server infrastructure that runs our SaaS platform while consuming and deploying products that have been newly developed by engineering teams. You will be working closely with engineers and developers across the company.

What you get to do in this role:

  • Contribute to Configuration Management and Infrastructure as Code for ServiceNow’s global private cloud.
  • Develop tools in Python, bash, and JavaScript to replace manual work and improve customer maintenance experience.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience with Linux (RedHat and/or CentOS)
  • The ideal candidate will have expert-level skills and background in systems administration and engineering, understanding of the components of a cloud infrastructure including hardware platforms, OS, applications, databases, networks, web and application servers. Prior experience in Site Reliability Engineering/DevOps and managing large-scale server infrastructure at a cloud computing or MSP setting is highly desirable. Strong Linux expertise is a must.
  • Working level knowledge of one: Perl, Python, JavaScript
  • Familiarity with MySQL, Oracle, MariaDB, or similar technologies; proficiency preferred
  • Expert-level skills and experience with service troubleshooting in a production environment covering web front-end, Systems, Databases and Networks.
  • Familiarity with Networking Technologies such as routing, switching and load balancing. F5 and NGINX experience is ideal. 
  • Experience with performance and availability monitoring, analysis, and configuration management platforms (e.g. Nagios/Icinga, Cacti, Ansible, Puppet, cfengine, chef, Splunk, Logstash) is desirable.

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior ML Engineer to join our Data Science team. In this role, you will collaborate with a cross functional team of ML engineers, data engineers and data science researchers. You will collaborate with other experts to design, build, deploy, and operate production pipelines and microservice systems with a focus on ML best practices. You will build and manage infrastructure including feature stores, data mesh and our AI platform, creating automation for training, delivery, and updating of our machine learning models.  If you're a problem solver, effective communicator, and enthusiastic about driving advancements in AI and ML in the security space, we want you on our team.

What You'll Do:

  • Own and lead the creation, operation and maintenance of critical infrastructure projects and automation for the data science team to empower data science research and ML model delivery.
  • Train and mentor team members in applying best practices in operations and security.
  • Provide code reviews and feedback on Github pull requests.
  • Identify opportunities for technical and process improvement and implementation.
  • Knowledge and application of best practices such as immutable containers, Infrastructure as Code, stateless applications, and software observability.
  • Tune large-scale distributed system performance to achieve SLA metrics such as stability, uptime, scalability, and low latency while keeping costs under control.
  • Continuous improvement of CI/CD processes to automate builds and deployments.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to understand KPIs and configure observability, monitoring, and alerting to support operations.
  • Setup Terraform / Kubernetes and associated tooling to support data pipelines, feature stores, data mesh and delivery of machine learning models.
  • Diagnose and correct networking issues or communicating problems clearly enough such that centralized IT teams can resolve.
  • Decompose system layer abstractions to investigate and determine root cause issues and resolve complex distributed system performance problems. 

What We Need You To Have:

  • 4-5+ years experience in ML / DevOps in the cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Experience with Apache Spark and big data streaming infrastructure (data lakes, Snowflake, Databricks, S3).
  • Production environment experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting data stores such as RDMBS (Postgres), KVS (Cassandra / ScyllaDB) and queues / streaming (Kafka).
  • Skilled with Terraform, Git, Python, bash / shell scripting, and Docker containers.
  • Experienced with CI/CD processes (Jenkins, Ansible) and automated configuration tools (Terraform, Ansible, etc.).
  • Experience setting up container orchestration (AWS ECS, Kubernetes / K8s).
  • Skilled with dashboard creation and monitoring with tools such as Prometheus and DataDog.
  • Capable of planning out future infrastructure and projecting timelines.
  • Ability to work with our highly collaborative team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to teach and mentor others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • You have a bachelors or greater in computer science, STEM or related field.
  • You’ve implemented data mesh and feature stores.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, including OSI layers, firewalls, DNS, split-horizon DNS, VPN, routing, BGP, etc.
  • Skilled with tools such as Ray, Airflow, Argo, Kubeflow, MLFlow, and vector databases.

  • Create efficiencies and economies of scale by delivering repeatable, automated solutions

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Proficient coding in an object-oriented programming language such as Ruby or Python
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills
  • Experience managing endpoints or servers at scale using code-based configuration management such as Chef, Ansible, Puppet, or SaltStack
  • Familiarity with macOS/Windows internals and design - the ability to troubleshoot complex problems from first principles
  • Comfortable with complex projects and able to build proof of concepts quickly
  • Understands the importance of security, compliance, and privacy when working with personal data
  • Passion for exploring new technologies related to platform-agnostic infrastructures
  • Experience building and maintaining automation pipelines
  • Ability to aggregate data from disparate systems to formulate insights on our fleet
  • Familiarity with macOS/Windows software packaging and deployment tools such as Chocolatey, Munki, Homebrew, and AutoPkg
  • Familiarity with Apple’s MDM protocol and Device Enrollment Program
  • Bonus:
      • Experience with an enterprise MDM such as SimpleMDM (preferred), Workspace One, Jamf, or Kandji
      • Familiarity with macOS APIs, Go, ObjectiveC, or Swift
      • Open source code contributions
      • Experience with osquery/FleetDM or an enterprise EDR (CrowdStrike)

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $140,000/yr to $175,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $170,000/yr to $211,000/yr for San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.


Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 daysper week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.

Minimum requirements:

At least 3 years of production experience with:

  • Kubernetes - we are looking for engineer that not only deployed applications to a cluster, but who also understands what is happening behind the scenes and can operate 24x7 production 
  • GCP (preferred)/AWS/Azure - our solution is built on top of GCP platform. Candidate should be comfortable working with public cloud, understand the risks and benefits associated with running applications in the public cloud, be familiar with infrastructure as a code principle and have ability to make design choices between using cloud managed solutions versus self hosted alternatives
  • Python/Go - you should be a solid programmer capable of developing custom tooling

  • Configuration Proficiency: You have hands-on experience configuring pod/container security context, network policies, roles and role bindings, pod affinity, host path, pod disruption budgets, priority classes, node taints, to name a few.
  • Resource Optimization: You have analyzed resource usage of applications hosted on a cluster and implemented or suggested changes to resource requests/limits, Horizontal Pod Autoscalers (HPAs), or Vertical Pod Autoscalers (VPAs).
  • Cluster Management: You have a deep understanding of the clusters you manage, including the types of machines used in node pools, the reasons for their selection, the enabled or disabled cluster features, the cluster version, and the node autoscaling setup. You have successfully upgraded Kubernetes cluster versions without causing interruptions to live applications hosted on the cluster.
  • Terraform Proficiency: You have written a Terraform module with multiple interconnected resources. 
  • Monitoring and Alerting: You have experience setting up monitoring systems and configuring alerts. On-duty experience is preferred, along with experience with Grafana and Prometheus.
  • DevOps and CI/CD Experience: You have experience with DevOps, Orchestration/Configuration Management, and Continuous Integration technologies such as Terraform, GitLab, Ansible, Docker, etc.
  • Team Onboarding and Training: You have experience with onboarding and training new team members, demonstrating your leadership skills and commitment to team growth.

The Infrastructure team operates and maintains Bloomreach Engagement core infrastructure built on Google Cloud with security, high availability, costs, and scalability in mind.Our vision is to identify and implement opportunities to achieve a robust, reliable, and efficient infrastructure and development platform. We strongly support DevOps culture: each team is responsible for releasing, operating, and monitoring their own applications.

The role of the Infrastructure Team is to provide a strong foundation upon which all teams can build, for example, manage big infrastructure components like Kubernetes, databases, and cloud components in Google Cloud. An important role of the team is also providing support for developers, reviewing design proposals, validating the performance and availability of applications, and sometimes even developing new core application components like logging or authorization.

Tasks and responsibilities:

In the position of DevOps Engineer, you’d be expected to work with other Engineering teams to design sustainable infrastructure, microservice solutions, and an efficient and robust production environment. Additionally, you’ll be working on a variety of tasks and projects, including automating tools and infrastructure to reduce manual work, monitoring applications and participating in an on-call rotation as required. 

The ideal candidate will be passionate about learning new things, creative, willing to take the initiative, and able to think outside the box to solve problems strategically.
