The Role

EST/CST location

Come join Addepar’s web platform group to build and improve the foundational architecture of our many web applications. Your contributions will directly impact the scalability, performance, security, and productivity of Addepar's stack.

Our team regularly works in TypeScript, JavaScript, and Rust codebases. On the client we use Ember, React, Next.js, TailwindCSS, and several other core libraries. Our hosting runs on a containerized AWS infrastructure with NGINX and on various edge network providers.

We’re looking for engineers ready to pick up new skills on the job, and who understand the web from the ground up. With a team of experienced peers, you’ll identify and tackle the challenges and opportunities inherent in Addepar’s commitment to building for the web.

Addepar takes a market-based approach to pay. A successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on the role, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target base salary for roles in Colorado, California, and New York.

The current range for this role is $166,000 - $260,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner with engineers and leadership across the product, platform, and infrastructure organizations to design and implement architectural changes to our in-browser, hosting, CI, and deployment systems.
  • Build tooling that unlocks the productivity of your engineering, product, and design peers.
  • Take on the challenge of building a global product with a distributed team.
  • Advocate for best practices and process improvements.

Who You Are

  • B.S. in Computer Science or similar technical field of study (or equivalent practical experience.)
  • 5+ years experience as a professional software engineer
  • Strong and demonstrable knowledge of web fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, HTTP, TCP)
  • An eagerness to learn new technologies
  • A capacity for self-organization and direction
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience with TypeScript or JavaScript frameworks such as Ember.js, React, etc
  • Experience with web server scaling, CDN configuration and scaling, or web deployment and hosting configuration

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of professional experience as a Ruby on Rails Developer.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining web applications using Ruby on Rails.

  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).

  • Experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL.

  • Strong understanding of software development principles and best practices.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to work in an Agile development environment.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Proficiency in front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery is a plus.

  • Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) is a plus.

  • Experience with ReactJS is a plus.

    About this team and role:

    The Desktop Engineering team are looking for a senior Frontend Engineer to work on the new tab page, which is a key surface that Firefox users experience many times a day as a starting point to their browsing journeys. Our team is geographically-distributed, and working in the open is the norm. We contribute to the code driving the Firefox browser on a number of desktop platforms - Windows, Linux, and macOS.

    What you’ll do: 
    • Build high quality user interfaces for Firefox with accessibility and usability in mind
    • Write code and tests, build prototypes, tackle problems with no clear solution, collaborate with other designers and engineers to make the web a better place
    • Learn about a wide variety of problems and solutions across a large, mature codebase
    • Work with cross functional teams, building relationships and fostering collaboration to reach shared goals
    • Help to level-up the skills of your fellow engineers through code reviews, giving talks, and/or writing documentation
    • Promote and maintain high standards of code-quality, focusing on performance, testing, security, usability, accessibility and maintainability
    • Work with driven, committed team members to bring the open web to people around the world
    • Contribute to improving engineering practices and procedures
    What you’ll bring: 
    • 4+ years experience as a software engineer
    • You have a background in shipping high quality software
    • 3+ years working experience with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
    • Interest in and ability to work with a distributed team (requires good asynchronous written communication skills as well as good verbal communication skills)
    • Happy to provide and receive constructive feedback
    • Will contribute by asking questions and proposing new ideas
