Role Overview 

 

A Senior DevOps Engineer is responsible for design, development and support of the cloud Platform using Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies. Senior DevOps Engineers are expected to guide less-senior engineers.

 

Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Design and support the product platform and operational runtime

  • Collaborate with other departments to improve developer and customer experience through Infrastructure or pipeline improvements

  • Implement new technologies to solve ReCharge's technical challenges as they arise

  • Champion good habits (development techniques, security, tech debt balance, TDD, and agile habits) within your team; improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes

  • Debug production issues across multiple levels of the stack

  • Design and build & maintain enterprise Kubernetes infrastructure to support mission critical applications.

  • Build and maintain CI/CD workflows that boost developer productivity.

  • Find and address performance issues throughout the environment

  • Perform thorough code reviews and troubleshoot complex issues

  • Spend up to 75% of your time working on Platform Design and support

  • Perform maintenance and updates with a high attention to detail and scalability

 

Competencies 

  • 6+ years experience with k8s, IaC, Terraform and Docker

  • 5+ years experience with Monitoring, Metrics and Logging (Splunk) solutions.

  • 5+ years experience in cloud-native environments such as GCP, AWS, or Azure

  • Experience with auto-scaling, serverless infrastructure components.

  • Experience in deploying and configuring Open Telemetry for Logs and metrics.

  • Experience with Git/Gitlab, lint and other development tools

  • Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform and CI/CD toolsets

  • Experience and willingness to deep dive into code (Python-preferred, Node, JS, Vue, etc)

  • A knack for engineering simple solutions to solve complex problems

  • Willingness to participate in a first line of support on-call rotation

  • Ability to work remotely and desire to make an impact.


Experience/Credentials/Education

  • Typically, 6+ years of relevant infrastructure operations experience in fast paced environments

  • Experience relevant to the technologies required of the role’s domain

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • Expert in Container orchestration(K8s) and a good cloud computing experience

  • Prior e-commerce experience

We are looking for a staff DevOps engineer to take over operational tasks for one of our business units while also helping define strategies for improving and automating a variety of areas such as releases, observability, database management, and developer enablement.   • Triage, troubleshoot, and fix production problems in every layer of the stack
  • Identify manual work, document in the form of a runbook, then automate it away
  • Participate in an on-call rotation supporting production systems
  • Mentor engineers and help develop their careers and technical skills
  • Work across teams to provide architectural guidance and to help drive large projects

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience

  • Resource Optimization: You have analyzed resource usage of applications hosted on a cluster and implemented or suggested changes to resource requests/limits, Horizontal Pod Autoscalers (HPAs), or Vertical Pod Autoscalers (VPAs).
  • Cluster Management: You have a deep understanding of the clusters you manage, including the types of machines used in node pools, the reasons for their selection, the enabled or disabled cluster features, the cluster version, and the node autoscaling setup. You have successfully upgraded Kubernetes cluster versions without causing interruptions to live applications hosted on the cluster.
  • Terraform Proficiency: You have written a Terraform module with multiple interconnected resources. 
  • Monitoring and Alerting: You have experience setting up monitoring systems and configuring alerts. On-duty experience is preferred, along with experience with Grafana and Prometheus.
  • DevOps and CI/CD Experience: You have experience with DevOps, Orchestration/Configuration Management, and Continuous Integration technologies such as Terraform, GitLab, Ansible, Docker, etc.

About the Role:

We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to help build and maintain the infrastructure powering our ecommerce platform. You Will:

  • Enable product teams to focus on developing business logic while DevOps takes care of reliably operating our platform and production sites with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Actively seek and identify opportunities to improve the availability and performance of the system by applying the learnings from monitoring and observation.
  • Independently lead key projects in support of business and technology strategy.
  • Use automation extensively to design, configure, manage, and monitor systems in support of our product development teams

  • Perform and run blameless RCAs on incidents and outages aggressively looking for answers that will prevent incident reoccurrence.

You Have:

  • 5+ years as a DevOps Engineer 
  • Experience with service-oriented architectures and microservices at scale

Qualifications

Essential criteria:

  • Currently Security Cleared (SC).
  • Able to work on site at Gloucestershire based offices 4 days a week.
  • Experience as an AWS DevOps Engineer or similar i.e. Cloud Engineer or Platform Engineer working with AWS.
  • Proficient with DevOps tooling e.g. Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Jenkins, Kubernetes, AWS CI/CD services etc.
  • Demonstrated experience with at least one software development language such as: Python, NodeJS, Java, Ruby or similar. 
  • Practical experience with Linux (RHEL, Centos) and Bash.
