POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Electrical Engineer is an electrical subject matter expert, acting as both Technical SME and Engineer of Record (EOR) within the Construction Engineering Team. As the EOR, this roleis responsible forreviewing & stamping Residential Solar & Energy Storage System (ESS) projects when Electrical Engineering stamps are required by the AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) and/ or Utility. This role requires an engineer with deep experience in both Solar Design & ESS and electrical code, and is an active contributor to process improvement, tool development, & automation.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Engineer of Record for projects requiring Electrical Engineer review and stamp
Assume the role of Technical SME as it relates to Electrical aspects of Design & Engineering, including code interpretation, point of interconnection selectionmethodology, and Main Panel Upgradeavoidance
Work closely with Software Development and Design Automation teams tooptimizeworkflows and develop automation to streamline project processing andapprovals
Drive new code and standards adoption in Design & Engineering, and contribute to refining andoptimizingFreedom Forever’s design & installation bestpractices
Represent Freedom Forever on notable boards including Codes & Standards and Energy Storage at SEIA
Be an active participant in theSolarApp+ technical working group, helping to shape standardized national permitting standards &processes
Collaborate with Field Operations and Electrical Program teams to develop new & emerging products to enhance installation efficiency and/or reduce overall project costs toconsumers
Work directly with Field Operations to reduce the frequency of Main Panel Upgrades via innovative application of code, products, and refinement of Designstandards
Manage a small team of EngineersinTraining (EIT) thatassistwith the daily processing of Electrical Engineering Stamp requests and responding to technical questions from Designers
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Certifications:
Licensed Professional Engineer (Electrical) in CA, MA, TX, NV, and NJ
Abachelor's degree in engineeringor in STEM Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
Experience:
At least5years of experiencein thesolarenergy industry, or6years' experienceina relatedfield
At least 3 years of experience reviewing and stampingprojects
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Deep understanding of the NEC and relevant electrical codes, including those specific to the States where PE licenses areheld
Thorough understanding of Residential Solar Design, including production modeling, parts & components, and electrical tie in methods
Demonstrated ability to apply value engineering across various parts of the business, including product selection & optimization, electrical point of interconnection options & hierarchies, and main panelupgrades
Passion for task automation and process improvement is highlydesired
