Your mission
To bring our finance set-up to the next level, we are looking for a dynamic and ambitious member of airfocus’ leadership team with an entrepreneurial spirit and relevant expertise in the area of finance, controlling, and accounting. By taking well-grounded, yet fast decisions you provide strategic financial guidance and operational excellence in support of our ambitious growth objectives. Reporting directly to the founders, you will be responsible for financial planning, play a key role in our scale journey, and provide strategic direction to the leadership team.
  • You own financial planning and analysis, forecasting, budgeting, projections, and overseeing processes associated.
  • You prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports, including commentary, to support strategic business planning and financial performance.
  • You develop reporting processes (integrated P&L / balance sheet / cash-flow / selected KPIs/OKRs).
  • You help with payroll, VSOP setup, subscription mgmt., headcount planning, and growth topics.
  • You are the main point of contact for accounting, auditors, taxation, and other external parties/vendors.
  • You work cross-functionally to support compliance, regulatory, accounting, tax and legal requests
Your profile
  • You have deep understanding of all financial disciplines: accounting, reporting, business & scenario planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • You bring 2-4 years of finance experience, ideally in a VC-backed start-up, and experience with fundraising & investor relations.
  • You embrace an entrepreneurial spirit with a focus on generating impact fast, showing cognitive flexibility to tackle strategic as well as operational tasks. In addition, you are willing to get things done for yourself (e.g.. if there’s no team yet or in case the team doesn’t get it done).
  • You are numbers-driven and very structured about how to prioritize work and time.
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Finance, Business or a related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and German.

Head of Finance at CitizenLab

As our Head of Finance, you will be in charge of the financial management of the organisation. You will be reporting to the COO and work closely with the CEO on strategic topics. Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Forecastfinancial results on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

  • Model our budgets and keep us on track.

  • Provide financial insights to management and board for critical business decisions.

  • Develop and implement cost reduction strategies on all fronts, from internal tools to international payroll.

  • Ensure smoothcash collection and bring process efficiency to our financial workflows.

Your Role

We are looking for a driven and experienced Head of Finance (m/f/d) to join us. In your position you will implement and drive core financial processes to help us steer our daily operations and expand into new markets. Be part of our Team and have a direct impact on the fastest growing Edtech company in Europe, used by 7 Mio+ students and pupils by keeping up with the high-speed environment, and providing appropriate efficient structures. You will be working directly with the CEO and report to him.


Responsibilities:

  • You take responsibility for finance and tax related topics related to the StudySmarter HQ and its markets

  • You are responsible for managing and further building up the finance team as well as implement and improve financial processes and structures

  • You set-up and drive the annual budgeting and forecasting process across all StudySmarter countries and ensure that it reflects the company strategy

  • You are responsible for preparing the monthly forecasts (e.g. cashflow), monitor cash requirements and co-ordinate between relevant stakeholders

  • You report key financial KPIs on a weekly and monthly basis

  • You drive the company’s profitability agenda and ensure that we deliver on our set targets

  • You work with our tax and audit advisors and consult the Management on the appropriate tax & organizational structure for new countries, therefore you build and maintain relations with tax advisors and auditors

  • You review and present results to ensure a good understanding within the wider team 

  • You support cross-functional initiatives and ensure they are financially viable

What you need to succeed
  • You have a minimum of 4-6 years in relevant positions in the fields of Controlling, Corporate Finance, Accounting, ideally in a start-up, or a high-paced, dynamic environment

  • You have extensive experience in finance processes, financial models, and financial planning

  • You have experience in growing a company on an international scale (international tax and finance processes)

  • You have a Master's degree, or equivalent, in Business, Economics, Finance, or other related fields of study. A major in Finance/Controlling/Accounting or additional qualifications (e.g. CFA, ACCA, ICAEW) are desirable.

  • You are fluent in English and German, other languages are a plus

  • You have a track record of successful impact

  • You have an accurate and structured work style, combined with a strong commitment

  • You have a Team-oriented mind-set, proactive and a “self-starter” attitude
