About the role

Charlotte Tilbury Beauty is looking for a lawyer with experience in commercial contracts to join our award winning in-house Legal team as Legal Counsel.  This is a new role for the team and you will be based within the Global Legal Team based in London. 

Your role will predominantly focus on marketing and consumer, but you will also be expected to pick up some general commercial work. You will be responsible for reviewing, negotiating and drafting the following types of contracts: creative services and PR agency agreements, influencer and talent agreements, sponsorship contracts, IP licence agreements, and endorsement deals. You may also be asked to support on retail and distribution contracts. You will support in advising our Global and Regional Marketing teams and Creative Agency on marketing copy and campaign compliance, prize promotions, direct marketing, consumer law, trademarks and copyright and CAP/BCAP Codes compliance, and with supervision, review and approve Global product packaging and creative campaigns. You will also be expected to deliver regular training sessions to the business and have a genuine interest in developing legal knowledge within the business.

Who you will work with

  • The role will report directly to the Senior Legal Counsel - Consumer, Marketing & Advertising, and you will be expected to support the supervision and development of a trainee solicitor and team paralegal in relation to marketing and commercial work.

About you

  • Excellent knowledge of commercial and contract law.  
  • Experience in marketing and consumer law (CAP/BCAP Code, ASA and DMCCA compliance) is strongly desirable.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating a range of agreements for a UK and international business, including, influencer and talent agreements, sponsorship and event agreements, marketing and PR agency agreements, IP licence agreements
  • Experience working in-house, ideally for a global brand and advising on multi-jurisdictional issues.
  • 4 - 6 years post qualification experience
  • Solid training and qualification from a leading City or national law firm
  • In-house experience is essential. Experience in beauty, luxury or FMCG desirable.
  • Attention to detail is critical.
  • Highly effective communicator (written and oral) at all levels
  • Ability to be persuasive and interact effectively with the business, remain calm and work under pressure.

About the role:

We’ve got an opportunity for a qualified legal professional to join us, providing trusted legal advice to our commercial teams and contributing to new products and initiatives - no two days will be the same!

What you'll be doing:

● Working with our business teams to draft, negotiate and execute commercial agreements, whilst proactively maintaining and improving the processes that underpin them.

● Providing day-to-day legal perspective and guidance, as well as risk assessment and mitigation

● Advising our business teams on compliance with data protection and e-privacy laws

● Assisting with acquisitions and corporate integration projects

● Helping to establish and manage a framework of policies and guidance to manage legal and commercial issues within our business

What you'll bring to the role:

Essential:

  • 1 to 4 years’ post-qualification experience in-house or at a commercial or corporate law firm with experience providing full service commercial legal support (the reference to PQE is a guide only. We welcome applications from candidates with more or less PQE)
  • An experience and appreciation of the challenges and requirements of delivering legal support in a fast moving commercial in-house team with ability to be impactful from an early stage..
  • Qualified to practice as a solicitor in England and Wales (or another common law jurisdiction)
  • Proven technical ability to draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements to tight timescales
  • Experience of advising on IT, data protection/e-privacy laws as well as commercial and corporate law


Desirable:

  • Knowledge of intellectual property, competition law and regulated sector experience
  • Knowledge of the insurance and/or financial services

We are looking for a Legal Counsel to join our growing legal team. Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will be delivering and assisting on a wide range of legal services to the business.

The Day to Day

  • Assisting Head of Legal with legal research and report drafting
  • Drafting, reviewing commercial contracts and NDA’s for approval

Who will you be?

  • A solicitor in England and Wales, with at least 2 years PQE (we also welcome more senior lawyers who are looking for a more flexible working environment).
  • Commercial contract experience gained either in a reputable national law firm (or equivalent) and relevant in-house experience in-house
  • Commercial, proactive, and practical approach to problem solving and the provision of legal advice
  • Capable of explaining technical legal issues in a way non-lawyers can understand and interpreting instructions given by non-lawyers
  • Capable of communicating legal advice clearly both in writing and verbally at all levels
  • Able to build strong working relationships, with good interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Ideally you will have start-up experience within the tech world, or experience in the Edtech space, though this is not a deal-breaker. 
  • Litigation, employment and or corporate law experience is a plus.
  • Flexible and capable of working on multiple tasks at the same time, changing priorities where needed
  • Confident, resilient, and enthusiastic

The Role

We are seeking a talented legal counsel with strong commercial experience to join Ravelin. Reporting into the Head of Legal, your expertise in commercial transactions and contract negotiation will play a crucial role in supporting the growth and development of the company. This position offers a dynamic role where you will directly impact the company’s operations. As a Legal Counsel, you will be supervised by the Expert Legal Counsel.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and collaborate with the Expert Legal Counsel  in various legal topics and in particular in Commercial matters, Data Protection issues and structure of legal processes;
  • Assist and taking responsibility for the smooth running of background tasks on contractual matters: documents, formatting, translating, submissions, proofreading, etc;
  • Maintain all relevant records up to date, such as contract databases;
  • Contract Management : Assist in the review of License Agreement, NDA, Reseller Agreements, renewal of subscription, MoUs, tenders, and any other commercial documents;
  • Assist in giving accurate and timely counsel to collaborators in a variety of legal topics (i.e commercial contracts, corporate law, GDPR, and labor law);
  • Ad-hoc tasks under the Expert Legal Counsel’s request  (i.e carrying out legal research in legal database, assisting in drafting internal Legal policies, etc.) and back-up of Expert Legal Counsel when needed;
  • Channeling and prioritizing legal requests that the Legal team received through a ticketing system;
  • Controlling of the legal documents management process for signatures and filing.
  • Law degree (Master in Law) and at least 3 years of previous experience in a legal environment (law-firm, international legal department);
  • Able to deal with a wide range of legal matters (cross-jurisdictions);
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and experience with, laws dealing with commercial/contracts/GDPR, labor laws would be a plus;
  • Strong IT/Technical knowledge including Word, Excel, PowerPoint,Electronic signature tools;
  • Fast learner, flexible and highly motivated;
  • Excellent communicator in oral and written, with good interpersonal skills and customer-oriented;
  • Rigorous, organizational skills, excellent time management;

About the role

As Senior Legal Counsel for Charlotte Tilbury Beauty you will report directly to the Director of Legal (Commercial & IP) and have responsibility for advising our international business on legal and regulatory matters.  You will be expected to support the Director of Legal (Commercial & IP) and the wider Legal Team in the day-to-day running of the Legal Department, delivering to the global business the very highest standards of legal advice and regulatory compliance whilst supporting the business with its international growth.

 

You will be the primary advisor to a number of international General Managers to support market expansion and new marketing launches.  This will include working on new retail and distribution agreements, leases and a wide range of commercial contracts such as store design, marketing and PR agreements etc. You will take the lead on any new company incorporations required by the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty group globally, working closely with colleagues in Finance, Tax and Commercial.  You will also be required to directly support the Chief Legal Officer, at times, with discrete corporate matters and projects. Candidates should note that day-to-day company secretarial work is managed by the team’s Head of Governance and Company Secretarial.

 

The role would suit candidates with experience of both corporate and commercial work, coming straight from a leading national or international law firm.  However, experience of working in-house for an international retail business is highly desirable.  You will have at least eight years’ post qualification experience and have trained at a leading national private practice or international firm. You will need to be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and at pace, demonstrating a commercial and practical approach in dealing with a variety of legal issues across multiple geographical locations and legal systems. Personable, approachable and with excellent communication skills, you must build successful relationships with colleagues and challenge and influence across all levels within the business.

THE ROLE

This teammate will provide broad-based transaction support including support for school district sales and marketing programs.  You will work with other members of our legal team on issues of diverse scope, and collaborate with business partners such as the District Sales and Marketing teams.  You will report to our Associate General Counsel.

  • Support our District Sales team, including preparation, review and negotiation of school contracts, including Data Processing Agreements (DPAs)

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Experience as a practicing lawyer with a JD from a U.S. accredited law school 
  • An active membership in good standing of at least one state bar
  • 4-6 years of legal experience, preferably in-house experience at a Software as a Service (SaaS), EdTech, or other tech organization  
  • Experience reviewing, negotiating, and advising on SaaS agreements (on company paper as well as customer paper), with attention to detail, consistency and efficiency
  • Some experience researching and analyzing regulatory compliance matters and related contractual commitments 
  • Strong business judgment by analyzing and communicating business and legal risks, and developing practical solutions to manage risk
  • Experience with building strong relationships and working with teams across a company 
  • Ability to manage expectations and make decisions about how to prioritize the needs of various stakeholders

  • Qualified lawyer in your jurisdiction

At Khan Academy we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices, the well-being of our employees, and our Khan community. This belief is why we have built out a robust Total Rewards package that includes competitive base salaries, and extensive benefits and perks to support physical, mental, and financial well-being.

The target salary range for this position is $115,000 - $150,000 USD / $143,750 - $187,500 CAN. The pay range for this position is a general guideline only. The salary offered will depend on internal pay equity and the candidate’s relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and job market data. Exceptional performers in this role who make an outsized contribution can make well in excess of this range.  Additional incentives are provided as part of the complete total rewards package in addition to comprehensive medical and other benefits.
