Requirements:

VA utilizes Drupal as an API which serves data to a number of systems. This team’s mission is to provide a modernized, accessible, single source of truth about available VA locations, services, and benefits to Veterans, as well as to provide a modernized, accessible Drupal CMS user experience to Editors creating and maintaining that content.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a remote cross-functional team to deliver well-performing and scalable services and components
  • Grasp the overall technical landscape and offer guidance on solution direction, architecture, and tradeoffs
  • Identify client needs and 'meet them where they are’ through empathy, mentorship and advice
  • Mitigate technical, resource, and timeline risks
  • Conduct peer code reviews, including evaluation of regression testing and test coverage, adherence to acceptance criteria, and code best practices

  • build new features or entirely new products using well designed, testable, efficient frontend and backend code (end-to-end with responsive UI)
  • Help to maintain, expand and scale our web application for our next growth phase

Your skills

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience as a full-stack engineer, proficient in Node.js and React.js.
  • Strong knowledge of TypeScript and GraphQL, both on the server-side and the client-side.
  • Familiarity with TypeORM, type-graphql, Apollo GraphQL, Apollo Client, and Material UI frameworks.
  • Experience with cloud development, AWS services such as Lambda, Fargate, S3, SQS, DynamoDB, etc.
  • Proficiency in relational databases, especially MySQL.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies, especially Docker.
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable code following industry standards and best practices.
  • Passion for writing thorough unit tests to ensure code quality.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices for web development.
  • Have great written and verbal skills, just like every great communicator ;-)

The Hiring Process

  • Work Sample: Within 48 hours of the application, we will let you know whether we would like you to work on our small work sample. This shouldn't take you longer than 2-3 hours.

As a Software Engineer at VALR, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of both the backend and front-end components of our trading platform. What will you be doing:

      What we look for in you:

      • Extensive experience in backend development with proficiency in Kotlin, Java, or other JVM-based languages, and frontend development with expertise in React, TypeScript, Node.js, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
      • 6+ years experience working in production environments
      • Strong understanding of REST APIs, WebSockets, and real-time communication systems, along with experience in integrating front-end and backend systems.
      • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like GCP or AWS, CI/CD concepts, version control systems (e.g., Git), and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
