ABOUT THE ROLE
Stitch Fix is transforming the way people find what they love. Our technology teams have created unique, innovative software for customers, merchandising, styling, warehouse systems, and inventory management. We leverage customer data and user research to personalize our service and make smart bets. The result is a powerful offering to our customers and a successful business serving millions of men, women, and kids.
The Application Platform team is responsible for developing internal tools, applications, and libraries used to support projects across Stitch Fix technology. We are looking for a Fullstack Software Engineer who will work within a distributed team of 3-4 software engineers and cross-functional partners across the tech organization. You are expected to have strong written communication skills and be able to develop strong working relationships with coworkers and business partners. Writing developer documentation is important in this role. This is a remote position available within the United States. We operate in an agile-inspired manner, collaborating across multiple time zones. We build modern software with techniques like TDD, continuous delivery, DevOps, and service-oriented architecture. You will have the opportunity to develop your non-technical skills by presenting your work to the team and partners, leading projects on your team, and influencing the roadmap of your team. You’ll participate in an on-call rotation for code that your team owns.
YOU’RE EXCITED ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY BECAUSE YOU WILL…
- Work collaboratively on a distributed team—we are a remote-first team and use GitHub, Slack, and video conferencing extensively to collaborate
- Help design, develop, and continue to grow the foundations of how the technology ecosystem works at Stitch Fix
- Have an impact on development spanning the entire organization; our clients are other developers and the tools we build are used in almost all of Stitch Fix applications by almost all Stitch Fix developers
- Collaborate with stakeholders while leading the technical discovery, decision-making, and execution of projects within the team
- Operate as an engaged member of the engineering team by participating in design review, project planning, implementation, and team ceremonies
- Share the responsibility of directing the team’s investment in impactful directions
- Contribute to a culture of technical collaboration and scalable, resilient systems
- Model consistently sustainable results against measurable goals
- Work individually with mentorship, and have pairing opportunities, timely feedback, and code reviews to grow your programming craft
- Actively invest in the professional development and career growth of your teammates and peers
- Participate in a positive, constructive engineering culture with bright, kind colleagues
WE’RE EXCITED ABOUT YOU BECAUSE YOU...
- Have 2+ years of experience as a software engineer.
- Have hands-on experience with developing Ruby on Rails applications. Experience with writing Ruby libraries is a plus
- Are excited about solving challenging system design problems and have excellent analytical skills
- Enjoy building reusable code that balances convention and configuration
- Are respectful, empathetic, and humble. You are not afraid to ask questions
- Recognize that writing good code is just as important as strong communication skills - both verbal and written
- Proactively communicate status updates or changes to the scope or timeline of projects to stakeholders and leadership
- Are motivated by solving problems and finding creative solutions while being pragmatic about balancing scope and cost
