A day in the life of a SGS Senior Account Manager

The Senior Account Manager is responsible for the sale of environmental analytical services to existing and prospected customers, as well as securing business opportunities to meet revenue targets. The Senior Account Manager is expected to manage a portfolio of clients and build long-term relationships. Applying the sales process, the Senior Account Manager will generate revenue for SGS environmental laboratories. The Senior Account Manager will liaise between customers, Client Services team, and lab operations to meet customer needs.

Job Functions

  • Identifies business leads with existing and potential customers through continuous interaction across the Environmental community.
  • Proactively seeks out, intelligently targets and initiates contact with prospective customers to assess potential leads.
  • Develops a network of industry contacts and continually qualifies market conditions.
  • Through active probing and listening, conducts discovery sessions with qualified leads to identify client needs and determine potential opportunities for the full scope of offerings.
  • Assesses client needs against capabilities of SGS.
  • Works closely with prospects to develop a value proposition and determine how SGS services will help them achieve their goals.

Our Dayton, NJ laboratory is looking for an experienced environmental Senior Project Manager to join their Client Services team!  A Senior Project Manager is a key member of the Client Services Team, serving as a client advocate and laboratory liaison. This role is responsible for managing a portfolio that involves routine basic sampling events and high volume premier clients. The Senior Project Manager is expected to build strong working relationships with our clients and technical staff. This role is responsible for guiding successful, on-time completion of the clients' project beginning with the first contact (i.e. request for quote, bottle kits, etc.), through the lab (i.e. analytical details, status, etc., to the final deliverables and invoicing. The Senior Project Manager manages a dedicated portfolio of clients with intermediate complexities and/or annual analytical spend. The Senior Project Manager will work within a functional group consisting of Project Manager Assistants and Project Managers. The Senior Project Manager is expected to become familiar with the complexities of their own projects and the ongoing project work within their functional working group. The Senior Project Manager will also be responsible for training and delegating tasks to the Project Manager Assistants and Project Manager I.

Job Functions

  • Acts a the main point of contact/client services representative for a dedicated list of clients of intermediate complexity and/or annual analytical spend.
  • Aids the client with all aspects of project setup, including the initial quote, supply order, sample receipt, data reporting, and invoicing.
  • Fosters collaborative relationships with the client, laboratory operations, and sales team to support long term, successful relationships between all parties. Staff meetings and client meetings are critical to relay information about past, current, and upcoming projects.
  • Acts as the client liaison to the laboratory to ensure all aspects of the project are carried out in the best interest of the client and laboratory operations to meet TAT deadline
  • Responsible for keeping all accounts project managed and up to date and accurate.
  • Monitors project status and provides regular updates through proactive communication to the client, lab operations, and sales team related to project status. Effective and efficient communication is key between all areas of the laboratory and the client and is the responsibility of the Project Manager.
  • Understands all applicable aspects of the client project, including rationale for the project, regulations that affect the project, and the different methods employed by the client and laboratory to produce results. A knowledge of environmental regulations is helpful, including: NPDES. SW-846.
  • Documents and executes client requests including bottle orders, tracking samples, LIMS login, change orders, etc.
  • Reviews project data and invoicing for accuracy and completeness before sending final reports to the client.
  • Participates in offsite and/or virtual client meetings as coordinated with the Sales team.
  • Promotes a positive working atmosphere and represent SGS in a positive manner inside and outside of the laboratory.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to ensure that SGS can fulfill its mission of quality, service, and growth.
  • Establishes and sets up laboratory protocols for the execution of complex or atypical analytical and reporting requirements.

Our Wheat Ridge, CO laboratory is looking for a Data Reviewer to join their team!  The Data Reviewer is responsible for ensuring data is reviewed in a timely fashion after acquisition to ensure on-time delivery that meets client TAT. The Data Reviewer will approve or reject data generated in the laboratory in accordance to quality control policies and procedures. The Data Reviewer must have working knowledge and understanding of GC, GCMS, ICP, ICPMS, IC, or other data, quality control requirements for both NELAC and DOD accreditation, and client requirements. The Data Reviewer will be required to understand and interpret chromatograms, results, and calibrations.

Job Functions

  • Performs secondary review of Volatile, Semi-Volatile, and Inorganics data in accordance with SOPs to meet client TAT; follows deadlines specified on a lab sheet or as scheduled by their supervisor.
  • Communicates and engages with the laboratory on a regular basis to build and maintain strong relationships with analysts and department supervisors; addresses data rejections and requests for reanalysis in a timely and effective manner.
  • Assures that reviewed QC records are compliant to methods, specifications and company’s SOPs.
  • Ensures that documentation review is complete in every respect and reviews that all results are entered into LIMS.
  • Audits calibration related documents and other QC documents.
  • Assures review of data in a timely manner and approval of records prior due date.
  • Demonstrates exceptional customer service to internal and external clients that support operational excellence

This position is responsible for communications with internal and external clients.  This would include acting as an advocate and facilitator for all clients; assist the Operations Manager with external customer service and support, scheduling and priorities in order to maintain service deadlines for all clients.

  • Communicate with internal and external clients (ex. clarifying clients instructions and requirements, estimated turnaround time and notifications of missed turnaround dates, providing status reports, providing quotations, client information to laboratory, relaying information regarding methods, detection limits, scheme codes, etc.)
  • Assist Management or Sales staff with external customer service and support.
  • Accountable for the top line of sales through customer retention and additional sales from current and new clients. 
  • Responsible for the collection of revenue and updating client files in LIMS.
  • Respond to customer concerns and complaints and initiate corrective or preventative actions.
  • Is familiar with location of all Quality System information and standard operating procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring that Minerals Laboratory is responding to and meeting the requirements of their clients as per management objectives and assisting management with quotations and client correspondence.  
  • Works with LIMS entry and co-ordinates with invoicing staff to ensure that reports are correct from the client information, invoice and structure point of view.
  • Will act as first line for client communication, e.g., phone, fax, email, and tradeshows with travel as required to meet clients and to represent SGS Geochemistry at various meetings.  Covers for other members of this team in their absence.
  • Assists in creating a team approach and spirit whenever practical, using available technical resources of knowledge and experience.
  • Responsible for the selection of methodology to meet client or regulatory requirements with direction from technical personnel if required and provides this information to the Operations Manager to ensure selection is carried out in the laboratory.
  • Promotes the capabilities, facilities, personnel and experience of SGS Canada.
  • May be assigned and coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a community college diploma (or equivalent) with chemistry knowledge is a strong asset.  
  • Post-Secondary education in a Business or Science related field is an asset.
  • Some working knowledge of the mining and minerals industry.
  • Excellent customer service, client support and business service consulting skills.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
