FastSpring

FastSpring is hiring a Remote Graphic Designer (Remote)

The Opportunity:

FastSpring is the world’s leading ecommerce platform for software and SaaS companies. Our product hosts over 10 million transactions per year, powering sales growth for more than 3,500 companies in over 200 countries, using every major currency. We pride ourselves on being an innovative company with an entrepreneurial culture, growth mindset, global influence, and profitable operations.

We are committed to building an inclusive work environment, and we invest in our employees by helping team members grow and develop professionally. We are developers, technologists, and business professionals who are globally-minded, customer-focused, and driven by constant innovation.

The Position(note: restricted to Pacific, Mountain, or Central time zones):

FastSpring’s marketing team has a very fun mission: to inform the market and world about all the value that FastSpring can provide as a commerce solution for SaaS. As part of that mission, we are looking for a talented individual to bring their design eye and creative vision to our marketing and sales materials. We want our website, webinars, ebooks, sales decks and all marketing materials to be beautiful and easy to understand. That’s where you come in!

The ideal candidate for this job will come into it ready to contribute and help create great campaigns and materials right away, but with an eye toward expanding their responsibilities and becoming a design leader. At first the Graphic Designer will work within FastSpring’s existing brand aesthetic, but soon they will be extending, improving, and iterating on our visual identity and bringing their own flair!

This person will begin their job focused on prospect-facing materials such as our marketing site at fastspring.com, outbound email campaigns, social media images, blog images, ebook and whitepaper designs, webinar assets, and other items in that vein. They might also have the chance to help with illustration or design for technical documentation, sales materials, executive decks, and company-wide presentations. Creativity and clever communication is highly valued! Depending on the project,  the solution may vary: animations, infographics, charts, graphs, visualizations, icons, you name it. The most important part is taking complex or intimidating topics, and making them approachable and appealing through great design.

The title of this position is “Graphic Designer”, but we’re big believers that if you have a different title that more accurately describes your contributions, there should be flexibility. Bring your ideas around that and let’s discuss.

A potential 30, 60, and 90 day plan might look as follows:

First 30 days:

  • Learning FastSpring’s business model and ideal customer profile, which is key to understanding how to communicate to our prospective customers
  • Creating blog hero, thumbnail, and social share images, and images for pages of the website that apply to our specific product features
  • Creating ad units for campaigns that will run on display networks, social media
  • Learning the existing and historical brand guidelines, and beginning to get the wheels turning on what direction they can take the brand in

First 60 days:

  • Complete and launch a new page design for the website, working with the marketing team to hone the design in tandem with copywriters, front end developers, and executive stakeholders.
  • Begin the process of organizing a new design system for marketing materials, with an emphasis on documenting the system and making it portable. (A Figma-based design system that a contractor could easily use to help offload campaigns or design tasks would be a huge win here!)

First 90 days:

  • Three months in, the Graphic Designer in Marketing should be feeling confident that they are a hugely valuable asset to the company.
  • They should have the confidence and the groundwork laid to begin sourcing some contractors to ramp up content creation, or offload tasks to free up time for themselves to focus on big creative projects.
  • At this 90 day mark the Graphic Designer should feel included enough in the fabric of the company to collaborate with Product, and find opportunities to expand the brand and visual guidelines across all of our properties and interfaces.
  • At this point they should have a deep understanding of our ideal customer, what verticals we serve best, and how to communicate with those audiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Marketing Demand Generation team to design ad units, landing pages, and campaign assets.
  • Work with the Marketing Content team to produce ebooks, whitepapers, and infographics, with an emphasis on data visualization e.g. charts, graphs, maps.
  • Design whole pages for the website: product pages, company info pages, form/signup pages, and other web frontend design tasks.
  • Take complex concepts and break them into fun, easy to understand graphics and illustrations.
  • Take a leading role in expanding and refining FastSpring’s design system and brand guidelines.
  • Increase engagement with FastSpring’s marketing materials through aesthetically pleasing designs.
  • Assist with FastSpring’s SEO efforts by keeping performance, next-gen file formats, and metadata in mind while designing.
  • Collaborate with other teams including Sales, Product, and Engineering to maintain brand consistency across all channels and touchpoints.
  • Have fun!

Great candidates for this role will have:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the field(s) of graphic design, UI/UX design, or illustration.
  • Keen artistic eye, ability to work within an existing brand but push the boundaries to make it their own.
  • Mastery of a suite of illustration/design/mockup tools like Figma, Sketch, or Adobe Creative Suite. Willingness to try other apps and tools.
  • Ability to self-start, find the right priorities when multiple tasks are due at the same time, and self project management when necessary.
  • Ability to focus on results while working independently and remotely when given broad direction and desired results.

Bonus Points:

  • Huge plus for skills with motion graphics and animation for the web, like After Effects, Haiku, or Lottie.
  • Experience with a CMS framework such as WordPress is a plus but not required.
  • Front-end web development skills using HTML, CSS, and Javascript a major plus
  • Experience using Asana, Jira, Basecamp or similar productivity and task tracking platforms would be a plus.
  • Knowledge about ecommerce platforms (Shopify, Stripe, Woo Commerce, or similar) is a major plus
  • A background in marketing SaaS, software, fintech, or other digital-first companies is a major plus
