Senior Data Engineer

Mission For The position:

The Analytics Engineering team effectively and sustainably provides data solutions and tools across the organization. We integrate, transform, and improve volumes of data at the project or enterprise level for streamlined processes, greater efficiencies, and smarter, more informed decision-making. Key Responsibilities:

You'll work closely with our business teams to make sure the most awesome, high-potential brands join the Leap platform. What You'll Do:

  • Support the data needs of Analytics, Machine Learning, and Business.

Machine Learning Operations Engineer

Mission for the position:

As a senior Machine Learning Operations Engineer you willdevelop a self-service foundation for applications of machine learning that will provide scalable business impact.Machine Learning Operations Engineers empower our Machine Learning Engineers to bring their powerful predictive models to production where they drive business critical decisions for Leap and our brand partners. Mission for the position:

As a data practitioner and senior leader of the function, you’ll build and manage a core team of data and analytics professionals. You’ll work closely with Sales and Real Estate to build data-driven practices and workflows. Mission for the position
As engineering manager for infrastucture, you’ll be a manager, teammate, and leader to the software developers who report to you. You’ll provide 1:1s, technical direction, and you’ll participate in coding-related work. Since we’re a small team, this includes architecture and code, but your real mission is to build a great team and provide professional leadership to them.

Key responsibilities
You'll work closely with product and fellow engineering leaders to architect and execute the Leap platform. As an software engineering domain expert, your role will be to collaborate with product, engineering, and analytics teams to identify our opportunities to create value for brands and/or for our internal teams. You’ll hire software engineers to accomplish these goals, devise technical plans, and act as a teammate to your reports, participating in the development of our software platform.

What you'll do:

  • Hire and manage a world-class team of software engineers
  • Develop real-world solutions to practical challenges
  • Collaborate with our app and product teams to maintain robust, secure, tested software stacks
  • Drive and participate in clear, consistent code review practices, using your experience to help grow a great engineering team
  • Have fun and work with a scrappy, optimistic, energetic startup team
  • Use state-of-the-art technology and programming tools
  • Collaborate on the roll-out of internal workflows and procedures, prioritizing automation  
  • Be encouraging, supportive, kind, fun, sensitive, honest, a great teacher, and above all, a great student

You have: 

  • Significant programming experience writing code in Python/Ruby or similar language 
  • Experience working among product management and product development teams
  • Experience with infrastructure related projects and building out teams and scalability
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes
  • Experience working under clear product/operational priorities
  • A deep commitment to testing and automation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Curiosity, energy, and a sense of humor

In your first month, you'll:

  • Go to our stores, ask questions, try on products, buy products, return products, and experience being a customer first-hand
  • Participate in scoping and design sessions for our technology platform
  • Onboard as an engineer and learn our stack
  • Communicate constantly with an encouraging, supportive team

 

Your success will be measured by:

  • As a leader, your ability to influence and guide people throughout the company (in technology and beyond)
  • As a manager, your ability to hire and grow your team and reports

Mission for the position:

As an engineering leader and senior leader of the function, you’ll build and manage our core engineering teams. You’ll bring world-class expertise, practices, and tools to an already high-caliber team. You’ll help define and promulgate high standards and expectations for our software engineers, infrastructure engineers, and other members of our technical staff. And you’ll work closely with your own team of fellow executives to steer and manage our enterprise as a whole.

In this role, you have the technical expertise to collaborate and direct software engineering initiatives. Your principal responsibility, however, is to hire, manage, and set up the engineering organization for success at a senior leadership level. You’ll drive the delivery of our product development and will coordinate across departments on a day-to-day basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hire and cultivate a growing team of engineers across software, test, and infrastructure
  • Build and strengthen our engineering management practices
  • Drive goals and OKRs on a quarterly basis 
  • Define and communicate an engineering vision for the next several quarters of development
  • Define and implement the software development lifecycle
  • Be encouraging, supportive, kind, fun, sensitive, honest, a great teacher, and above all, a great student

Competencies for Success:

  • 10 years+ full-time engineering work experience
  • Experience hiring and managing engineering managers and and directors
  • Experience with modern cloud computing deployment strategies
  • Experience with modern ML frameworks and deployment frameworks
  • Deep expertise in conventional software development processes, like environment promotion, version control, and automated testing
  • Almost compulsive need to organize and clarify 
  • Humility and high aptitude for learning and self-improvement
  • High level of comfort working along a dynamic and evolving roadmap
  • Innately curious, wants to understand all parts of Leap’s business, encourages innovation and creative problem solving with others

Outcomes & measures of success:

  • Building out a functionally complete engineering organization, including hiring goals
  • Accountability to department level SLOs and OKRs 
  • The continuous delivery of high visibility capabilities and superpowers for our platform
