About the Data Platform Team

Data is the lifeblood of modern companies, and for a two-sided digital marketplace like Thumbtack, even more so. The Data Platform team is a central team of software engineers who employees with various backgrounds can easily build pipelines, systems, and models, all while keeping Customer and Pro privacy in mind. You’ll work deeply with Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, and other Software Engineers from across the company as customers, and collaborate closely with the Site Reliability and core service Engineering teams as partners.

In 2024, Thumbtack is significantly investing in Data initiatives and the Engineering teams that support them, as a strategic growth area for the company. While there are interesting and difficult challenges across the entire focus area, this team is specifically poised to build the deep technological foundation to empower all others. It’s highly-leveraged, intricate and interesting work for the right type of engineer. We are the caretakers and creators of the foundational building blocks of the modern Thumbtack data system, and we need your help to build and deliver that

Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively refine and evangelize a comprehensive framework for integrating data-thinking into the software development lifecycle across Engineering
  • Work with the Data Engineering and Machine Learning teams as stakeholders to identify gaps in our current capabilities, and help build and execute on a multi-year roadmap to close them
  • Directly work with teams consisting of product engineers, analysts, data scientists, machine learning engineers throughout the company to understand their data needs, and make recommendations both how to build to their needs, but also to build processes and knowledge bases to support them
  • Drive data quality and best practices across the company
  • Help build the next generation of marketing data products at Thumbtack, based on real-time data products on top of Apache Kafka

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, at least 2 of which focused in the data domain
  • Excellent ability to understand the needs of, and collaborate with, stakeholders in other functions, especially other Engineering teams
  • Strong fluency in at least one major programming language and would be able to switch between multiple languages. Thumbtack’s main production stack is Go, however we tend to use Python with some Scala
  • Experience designing, architecting, and maintaining data systems that serve deeply technical customers
  • Strong sense of ownership and pride in your work, from ideation and requirements-gathering to project completion and maintenance

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience building ETL data pipelines in a modern programming language, like Python or Scala, ideally with Apache Airflow
  • Understanding of database internals and query optimization
  • Experience working with semi-structured or unstructured data in a data lake or similar
  • Experience working in engineering at a two-sided marketplace or B2C technology company
  • Experience mentoring and coaching data engineers and/or analysts

As Lead Identity Platform Engineer, you will have the opportunity to help modernize the identity and access management systems and tools used for our commercial platforms and services at 84.51°. We are looking for a knowledgeable, creative identity engineer that can lead and participate in architectural discussions, use their subject matter expertise in identity and access management to make recommendations for our authentication and authorization systems, and ultimately plan and implement solutions with other identity and shared commercial technology engineers. This position will contribute to the design and implementation of authentication and authorization for our web application ecosystem, providing best practices for our developers, and will support identity initiatives related to our API products.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Take ownership of and drive delivery of authentication and authorization solutions across our commercial web application ecosystem by:

  • Leading design and development of identity solutions using a combination of off the shelf tools and homegrown applications
  • Participating in architectural discussions related to authentication and authorization
  • Contributing to our identity systems as a developer, building prototypes, and evaluating open source and commercial products
  • Enabling and supporting engineering initiatives related to API authentication and authorization
  • Acting as an identity subject matter expert and resource for other engineers and stakeholders at 84.51°

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related program, or commensurate work experience
  • 3+ years of experience implementing authentication and authorization solutions for commercial applications and/or intranet/business to business systems in an enterprise
  • In-depth knowledge of full-stack web application architecture and current best practices for implementing authentication and authorization for web applications (Spring Boot+ Angular) and APIs
  • Proficiency in current frameworks, specifications, topics and trends within the identity field or related to identity security, including OAuth2.0/OpenID Connect, SAML, JOSE (JWT/JWK), etc.
  • 2+ years implementing and integrating on-premise and cloud-based identity providers such as Okta, Azure B2C, Keycloak, Identity Server, etc. and directory systems such as AD LDS/LDAP, Azure AD/Entra ID, etc.
  • Experience with Object-Oriented programming in Java (especially using Spring Boot); enough experience to provide model auth-n/auth-z implementations for developers to follow, develop proofs-of-concepts, and contribute to libraries and backend service code
  • Proficiency with standard authorization models such as RBAC, ABAC, and ReBAC
  • Familiarity with policy information, enforcement, and decision systems such as Open Policy Agent, OpenFGA, Topaz, etc.
  • Experience working with API gateways and an understanding of how they work and fit into an enterprise environment
  • Proficient using RESTful APIs
  • Familiarity with additional web (Javascript, Python, Go, etc.) and scripting (PowerShell, etc. ) languages preferred

    Analytics and Reporting

    • Utilise research, tools and analytics platforms to track key metrics on both brand metrics and campaign performance and how these metrics support our strategy.

    What we need from you

    • Proven track record of developing and executing successful digital/physical marketing activations.

    About The Position:

    Alongside The HOTH, our parent company, Next Net Media, owns several other sister companies. We're looking for a dynamic Director of Growth Marketing to not only help The HOTH continue to soar, but all of Next Net Media.

    As the Director of Growth Marketing, you'll lead our marketing team as we achieve key objectives, including lead generation, account sign-ups, and revenue growth.

    Your expertise will help us shape our marketing strategies, continue to focus on performance metrics, and establish a consistent plan for sustained success.

    Some day-to-day responsibilities include:

    • Crafting and executing growth strategies uniquely tailored to each of our brands
    • Taking charge of our website's strategic direction, with a focus on enhancing user engagement
    • Planning, scheduling, and managing monthly webinars with the Marketing Director, integrating them into our broader content strategy
    • Orchestrating promotional activities
    • Working in tandem with external agencies to refine and improve key metrics such as Cost Per Lead (CPL) and Cost Per View (CPV), New Users, Cost Per Account Signup, and ROAS
    • Collaborating with the Email Marketing Manager to develop a monthly calendar that effectively balances customer acquisition and retention
    • Innovating and improving e-commerce strategies to increase a la carte purchases such as Link Outreach, Technical SEO Audit, and Link Insertions
    • Partnering with the brand team to create impactful ads, lead magnets, landing pages, and email campaigns
    • Monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on key performance indicators to gauge success and guide future strategy adjustments

    This is a remote, full-time opportunity available to U.S. Residents.

    Skills/Knowledge You MUST Have:

    • Proven Growth Experience with brands in B2C or B2B
    • Experience in managing SEO, email marketing programs, Paid Ads, and Data Analytics
    • Knowledge of creating, growing, and scaling Lead Generation and Book A Call funnels
    • Experience with Looker Studio building dashboards
    • In the weeds tasks/experience is a must, including but not limited to:
      • Ad Creation
      • Offer Creation
      • Marketing Strategy
      • Tracking Setup (GA4, GTM, Server-Side)
      • Funnel Builds
      • Zapier
      • Calendly/Chili Piper or a similar tool
      • Extremely detailed and organized.
      • G-Suite

      • Webinar software
      • CRM Knowledge is needed.
      • Salesforce knowledge is a plus

      • The role is also best suited for a multi-faceted marketer who can create and implement new strategies to grow the business.

    The Director of Growth Marketing will lead the marketing operations of distinct brands under the Next Net Media umbrella. This role is responsible for daily oversight of these brands' marketing activities, coordinating closely with sales and product teams.

    The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $95,000 per year dependent on experience and skills, plus annual bonuses at 4% of base pay.

    Job Summary

    Reporting to a Regional or Area Sales Director, the Sales Rep will support their region by speaking with new & existing families and identifying the right tutoring program for their needs and budget. By utilizing the sales strategies and training received, you will be responsible for maximizing the bookings from the lead sources and accounts assigned to you. You will follow up on all your leads in a timely basis, with a goal to speak with as many families as possible, delivering program recommendations via Zoom or phone. After purchase, you will initiate appropriate program follow through and will provide excellent customer service and program management for the duration of the customer’s lifecycle with Revolution Prep. Our goal as a team is to provide a remarkable experience that our customers refer their friends and family to us and our partners continue working with us.

    You will primarily be measured on your bookings, both new business and repurchases. You will also be measured on several key performance indicators.

    This high pace and high activity job is perfect for experienced sales individuals looking to maximize their earning potential as an individual contributor. Because this role involves working directly with our leads, potential new customers, and existing customers, you'll need excellent communication skills, both written and oral, have a high attention to detail, and be excited by a fast-paced position.

    Duties / Responsibilities

    • Be an expert in consulting families on the college readiness process

    • Responsible for lead follow-up and monthly sales quotas

    • Complete lead activation on a timely basis by making high volume of calls and outbound SMS campaigns daily to introduce and grow sales

    • Ensure outstanding customer service to achieve company’s Net Promoter Score goals

    • Daily, deliver excellent customer service to families ensuring program success

    • Deliver excellent service in sales and customer retention to support growing school and community partnerships

    • Identify opportunities to influence brand recognition beyond current client base

    • Aptly handle challenging customer service needs

    • Regularly follow-up with book of business families and other internal stakeholders to check in on progress

    • Collaborate with tutors assigned to programs to identify expansion and repurchase opportunities.

    • Craft strong recommendations to families to drive repurchases

    • Actively reach out to book of business families to generate sibling expansion purchases and parent referrals

    • Own our industry-leading NPS results

    • Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, with some evening and weekends expected.

    • Assist regions in business development activities including attending fairs, conventions, and community and school events to promote your business and generate new leads, as needed

    • Minor to moderate travel as required to support business development activities
