About the Data Platform Team

Data is the lifeblood of modern companies, and for a two-sided digital marketplace like Thumbtack, even more so. The Data Platform team is a central team of software engineers who employees with various backgrounds can easily build pipelines, systems, and models, all while keeping Customer and Pro privacy in mind. You’ll work deeply with Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, and other Software Engineers from across the company as customers, and collaborate closely with the Site Reliability and core service Engineering teams as partners.

While there are interesting and difficult challenges across the entire focus area, this team is specifically poised to build the deep technological foundation to empower all others. It’s highly-leveraged, intricate and interesting work for the right type of engineer. We are the caretakers and creators of the foundational building blocks of the modern Thumbtack data system, and we need your help to build and deliver that

Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively refine and evangelize a comprehensive framework for integrating data-thinking into the software development lifecycle across Engineering
  • Work with the Data Engineering and Machine Learning teams as stakeholders to identify gaps in our current capabilities, and help build and execute on a multi-year roadmap to close them
  • Directly work with teams consisting of product engineers, analysts, data scientists, machine learning engineers throughout the company to understand their data needs, and make recommendations both how to build to their needs, but also to build processes and knowledge bases to support them
  • Drive data quality and best practices across the company
  • Help build the next generation of marketing data products at Thumbtack, based on real-time data products on top of Apache Kafka

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, at least 2 of which focused in the data domain
  • Excellent ability to understand the needs of, and collaborate with, stakeholders in other functions, especially other Engineering teams
  • Strong fluency in at least one major programming language and would be able to switch between multiple languages. Thumbtack’s main production stack is Go, however we tend to use Python with some Scala
  • Experience designing, architecting, and maintaining data systems that serve deeply technical customers
  • Strong sense of ownership and pride in your work, from ideation and requirements-gathering to project completion and maintenance

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience building ETL data pipelines in a modern programming language, like Python or Scala, ideally with Apache Airflow
  • Understanding of database internals and query optimization
  • Experience working with semi-structured or unstructured data in a data lake or similar
  • Experience working in engineering at a two-sided marketplace or B2C technology company
  • Experience mentoring and coaching data engineers and/or analysts

Qualifications

Expectations – the experience you need

  • At least three years of hands-on experience in Automation testing, with a preference for API Automation using REST Assured.
  • Demonstrated programming expertise, following coding best practices, and skilled in at least one of the following languages: Java, Scala, Python, or a similar programming language.
  • Deep understanding of automation best practices and their significance in Quality Assurance, including familiarity with CI/CD principles.
  • Proven experience and proficiency in testing REST APIs, ideally with hands-on API testing experience in past projects.
  • Knowledgeable in using POSTMAN or comparable tools for API interaction.
  • Experienced in utilizing version control tools, especially GIT.
  • Skilled in database technologies, encompassing both SQL and/or NoSQL.

Additional skills – the edge you have

  • Fundamental understanding of HTML and CSS.
  • Familiarity with UI Automation.
  • Experience in working with Microservice architectures alongside message queues such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies.

About the Role

As a Full Stack Engineer, you’ll focus on bringing the Thumbtack Partnership Team’s vision to life.  You’ll collaborate with other engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to execute on a broad range of projects. This could include building new full stack features to improve the experience of our partners or architecting infrastructure (public facing Partner APIs) from ground up to enable us to get to our vision of building a self-serve marketplace for our partners.

    If you like QA and enjoy building scripts that make things click - we might have a spot for you. One of our projects is looking for a QA Automation Engineer with a focus on API Automation. You'll be expected to know your way around the service layer of an application, have an idea of how automation works in theory and code, as well as know the QA principles that are needed to be able to contribute to an ever-growing automation test suite for business-level applications. In return, we'll provide the perfect technical playground in which you can enhance your skills and knowledge, so together we can bring really interesting projects to life.

    Position - how you'll contribute

    • Participate in daily Agile team meetings.
    • Maintain and expand existing automated test scenarios.
    • Review and analyze results from nightly test runs.
    • Investigate and resolve failures in test runs, report defects as necessary.
    • Develop automated tests for new features.
    • Engage in code reviews, coverage assessments, and peer review sessions.
    • Analyze requirements for new features to fully understand expected behavior and interactions.
    • When possible, refactor and enhance the quality of existing automation frameworks.
    • Define test coverage by decomposing complex business features into testable automation scenarios.

    Qualifications

    Expectations - the experience you need

    • Minimum of two years of hands-on experience in Automation testing, preferably focused on API Automation using REST Assured.
    • Proven programming knowledge, adhering to coding best practices, with proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Java, Scala, Python, or a similar programming language.
    • Strong understanding of automation best practices and the role of automation in Quality Assurance, as well as CI and CD principles.
    • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in testing REST APIs, preferably with practical experience in testing APIs in previous projects.
    • Familiarity with POSTMAN or other similar tools for API interaction;
    • Experience working with version control tools, particularly GIT.
    • Proficiency in database technologies, including SQL and/or NoSQL.

    Additional skills - the edge you have

    • Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS.
    • Familiarity with UI Automation.
    • Experience working with Microservice architecture in conjunction with a message queue (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies).
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English. Ability to effectively communicate with internal stakeholders at various levels and empathize with their perspectives.
    • Analytical and logical thinking skills, with a natural curiosity to explore the bigger picture. Ability to ask insightful questions to understand problems and assess the strengths and weaknesses of systems.

    En tant que Consultant(e) Data Confirmé(e) spécialisé(e) sur les « Modern Data Plateforms » (solutions d'actualité auprès de nos clients grands comptes), vous serez responsable de concevoir, mettre en œuvre et optimiser des solutions data innovantes pour répondre aux besoins de nos clients.

    1. Concevoir et mettre en œuvre des architectures de données modernes, en utilisant les meilleures pratiques de l'industrie,

    3. Assurer la qualité et la sécurité des données tout au long du cycle de vie,

    5. Évaluer et recommander des technologies émergentes pour améliorer les capacités de la plateforme data, 

    6. Monter en compétence des ressources internes, 

    7. Participation à la construction des offres de Talan. 

    Qualifications

    ????️‍♀️ Profil recherché :

    • Vous êtes issu(e) de formation BAC+5 (diplôme en informatique, génie logiciel, ou équivalent),

    • Vous justifiez de minimum 5 ans d'expérience sur un poste similaire.

    Compétences recherchées : 

    • Vous maitrisez les langages de programmation : Maîtrise avancée de Go, Python, SQL et Scala

    • Technologies de traitement de données : Expérience pratique avec Apache Spark pour le traitement massivement parallèle 

    • Bases de données : 

      • Solide expérience avec les bases de données relationnelles (SQL) et non relationnelles (NoSQL)

      • Expertise dans l'utilisation de BigQuery, Snowflake, DataBricks et autres solutions de data warehousing 

      • Expertise sur la stack ELK  

      • Connaissance de bases de données Timeseries (Prométheus…) 

      • Connaissance de base de données NoSQL ( Mongodb, CoucheBase, etc … ) 

      • Expertise sur les outils de Datavisualisation : Kibana et grafana 

    • Cloud Computing : 

      • Expérience approfondie avec les services cloud, notamment GCP, AWS et Azure 

      • Connaissance approfondie des services tels que Google Cloud Big Data, AWS Glue, et Azure Data Factory 

    • Conteneurisation et Orchestration : 

      • Maîtrise de Kubernetes pour l'orchestration de conteneurs 

    • CI/CD : 

      • Solide compréhension et expérience des pipelines CI/CD pour assurer le déploiement continu et la qualité du code 

    • Systèmes de stockage de données : 

      • Expertise dans la conception et la gestion de systèmes de stockage distribués 

    • Capacité à travailler en équipe et à communiquer efficacement 

    • Esprit d'analyse et de synthèse 

    • Capacité à résoudre des problèmes complexes 

    • Expérience pratique avec Docker pour le déploiement et la gestion de conteneurs.
