Job Description

THE ROLE – Cloud Onboarding Engineer

We are looking for an Onboarding Engineer with expertise in Kubernetes and OpenStack to support the seamless transition of IT and NT applications from customer environments to our VTI platform. This is a hands-on role where you will act as the primary point of contact (PoC) for customers, helping them deploy, configure, and optimize their applications on Kubernetes and OpenStack platforms. The role requires technical expertise in platform connectivity, Linux/Windows system administration, and a strong understanding of cloud consumption patterns to increase the resiliency and scalability of customer applications.

Responsibilities:

• Application Onboarding: Facilitate the transition of customer IT and NT applications from diverse platforms to Kubernetes and OpenStack. Provide technical assistance and expertise throughout the onboarding process.

• Platform Connectivity Design: Design and implement connectivity solutions for third-party applications, cloud integrations, and IP networking requirements (excluding LAN or switch-related tasks).

• Customer Point of Contact (PoC): Act as a trusted advisor and primary technical PoC for customers, ensuring smooth consumption of Kubernetes and OpenStack services.

• Platform Consumption Optimization: Guide application owners to enhance platform usage by leveraging Kubernetes and OpenStack features to improve application resiliency and scalability.

• Hands-On Support: Perform hands-on tasks including Linux/Windows system administration, bash scripting, and connectivity setup to meet customer-specific requirements.

• Collaboration and Troubleshooting: Collaborate with internal teams to resolve technical issues, troubleshoot deployment problems, and ensure customer satisfaction.

• Continuous Improvement: Contribute to improving tools, processes, and onboarding documentation to enhance the customer experience.

Qualifications

• Experience: At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in cloud infrastructure, networking, or telecommunications environments.

• Platform Expertise: In-depth knowledge and experience with Kubernetes and OpenStack platforms, particularly in application deployment and consumption.

• System Administration: Strong Linux administration skills, including bash scripting and hands-on experience managing Linux/Windows systems.

• Connectivity Design: Experience in designing and implementing connectivity for third-party applications, cloud integrations, and IP networking.

• Customer Engagement: Proven ability to act as a customer PoC, providing technical guidance and ensuring a smooth transition.

• Problem-Solving: Hands-on troubleshooting of platform, connectivity, and deployment issues to meet customer goals.

• Technical Resilience Guidance: Support application owners in increasing resiliency through effective use of Kubernetes and OpenStack.

 

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Programming and Automation: Proficiency in Python and shell scripting for automation and tool development.

• Networking Certifications: CCNA or CCNP certification is an added advantage.

• CI/CD Knowledge: Familiarity with GitLab and CI/CD pipeline creation and management.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Degree in computer science, mathematics, a technical, engineering or natural science subject or a comparable vocational training with many years of professional experience.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in the ICT sector, ideally with a focus on modern Cloud technologies (Public Clouds, preferably OpenStack-based, or Docker or Kubernetes).
  • Ability to understand Low Level Design and be able to work with it.
  • Willingness to create proof-of-concepts with the help of necessary scripting languages and other tools for testing the concepts in practice.
  • Excellent ability to assess technical solutions individually.
  • Make the necessary decisions when solving incidents and any kind of tasks.
  • Agile mindset.
  • Strong routing and switching knowledge in a large scale networks
  • Ability to oversee the big picture of the architecture, lead sub groups to progress with the defined vision

Your Tasks

As a “Backend Engineer OTC” you understand the latest developments in cloud and container technology. You will develop and enhance our Open Telekom Cloud platform in a customer-oriented manner.

Qualifications

Your Profile

           Must have:

  • Completed studies in a technical, engineering or scientific subject or comparable professional training.
  • 2-5 years of professional experience in IT with a focus on modern cloud technologies
  • Strong experience in Linux and network related services
  • Some knowledge in infrastructure automation (e.g. Ansible/AWX).

            You have the following soft skills:

  • High level of customer focus
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Analytical mindset
  • Ability to assess technical solutions and come up with creative approaches

And some Nice to have:

  • Docker, Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of agile development processes
  • .OpenStack and programming experience in open source projects is a plus
  • Programming is a plus: eg. Python, Go

You will be working in the European Union to meet our customers' data security and privacy requirements.

We run Open Telekom Cloud! Open Telekom Cloud is a public cloud standard product based on open source community software and driven by principles of DevSecOps. With this customer-oriented and agile orientation, we are the anchor point for the Public Cloud business in Deutsche Telekom Group.

We are measured by delivering a secure, stable and innovative platform. We work jointly with our platform partner and other partners out of the OpenStack ecosystem to create a highly innovative public cloud product based on European security and data protection standards.

Your Tasks

As Project Manager you lead complex IT-Projects for Public Cloud ramp-up and for customer migration projects. With your profound knowledge of project management frameworks, you bring structure, measurability and determinism into projects.

  • Certification as Project Manager.
  • Practice with agile methods, development processes and software tools.
  • Experienced negotiator and knowledge of budget management.
  • You are a team player, people person and are burning to make a difference.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • You will be working in the European Union to meet our clients' data security and privacy requirements.
