WHAT YOU'LL DO

We’re looking for a Software Engineer to join our SMS/Chat team, which is responsible for building and scaling Braze’s SMS channel. This team fully owns the SMS channel within the product, from composition and sending to message responses and analytics. It also owns several supporting services for Chat messaging, including our internal click tracking and link shortening service.

As an engineer on the team, you will work with your teammates to build out new features, improve performance, and provide guidance on key architectural decisions. You will have the opportunity to tackle significant engineering challenges, such as architecting new iterations of critical components for our systems and optimizing our systems for resilience as they scale. WHO YOU ARE

  • 1-3 years of full-stack development experience

About the team

Cloudflare’s mission is to help build a better internet and the Trust & Safety Engineering (TSENG) team lives at the core of that effort. This team collaborates with Cloudflare’s Trust & Safety and Legal teams to develop services and tooling to efficiently address abuse, enable deeper coordination with our external industry anti-abuse partners, and ensure that teams in the company can respond to the quickly changing legal landscape of the internet with scalable tools and services. 

About the Role

The Trust & Safety Data Analyst will be a member of the Trust & Safety Engineering team, working alongside the engineers who build and maintain our internal abuse response tooling, but will also serve as an embed resource in the Trust & Safety team. This data analyst will work cross-functionally to deeply understand operational processes on the Trust & Safety team, changes and trends in abuse data over time, and regulatory requirements for reporting. 

This role will be based out of our Lisbon office.

What you'll do

You will be responsible for development and maintenance of critical reports and interactive dashboards related to abuse trends and volume as well as T&S operational metrics and SLA tracking. Communication skills are critical as you will interface directly with stakeholders to build shared understanding of insights and opportunities surfaced from your analysis. As an expert on T&S data, you can expect to perform ad hoc analysis and present findings to a range of audiences from executives to peers. Alongside your work to drive visibility and insights internally, you will also contribute to external communication in supporting development of Cloudflare’s Transparency Report

Responsibilities include

  • Develop and maintain a suite of interactive/exploratory dashboards for T&S leadership as well as executive-level reporting. 
  • Conduct ad hoc analysis of operational and product data to support decision-making, identify areas for improvement, and assess the effectiveness of Trust & Safety activities.
  • Work closely with Trust & Safety team members, product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand business problems and requirements. 
  • Document data analysis methodologies, dashboard specifications, and best practices to ensure compliance, transparency, reproducibility, and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with engineers to develop and optimize processes for data collection, schema design, analysis, and reporting.

Desirable skills and experience

  • At least 2 years experience as a data analyst or business analyst.
  • Proven experience in data analysis and dashboard development with proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or LookerStudio.
  • Strong experience working with relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL and BigQuery
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy, data integrity, and transparent assumptions
  • Experience with at least one programming language like Python or R
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Curious self-learner who is able to ask as many questions as you answer

Role Description

As a member of the DevOps team, you will combine software and systems engineering to help build and run large-scale, distributed and fault-tolerant systems. This is a driven, creative, and energetic team that works in a flexible and agile fashion to deliver world-class products to the education market. You will become a core contributing member to the DevOps team delivering eLearning services to over a thousand clients, comprising almost 4 million users worldwide.

What you'll be doing

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Using automation and Infrastructure as a Code (laC) to continuously improve the reliability, scalability, and performance of services deployed on AWS.
  • Performance tuning and configuration of both Linux system and application parameters supporting highly concurrent web stacks.
  • Manage infrastructure through code using configuration management and laC templating software such as Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc.
  • Developing and depoloying infrastructure through laC pipe-lines for Cloud System Engineering group
  • Engaging with development teams on the design, deployment, capacity needs and operations of microservices, and supporting them as they transition to production.
  • Providing advanced technical support to clients via email, phone, or other methods by identifying problems, researching answers, and guiding users through appropriate steps to provide the best possible customer experience.
  • Documenting procedures and knowledge base articles throughout problem resolution and architecture development processes.
  • Monitoring the availability, performance and health of production systems in support of meeting service level objectives using monitoring systems such as lcinga, New Relic,Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, CloudTrail GuardDuty, OpsGenie, and PagerDuty.
  • Participating in emergency incident response on-call rosters. Practicing blameless postmortems that lead to improvements in resiliency and reductions in alert fatigue.

Skills and Aptitudes

Successful candidates will have these required qualifications:

  • In depth experience of AWS services (RDS (Relational Database Service), EC2, Autoscaling groups, S3 ITS, Deploying Lambda, EKS, Aurora PostgreSQL, WAF, NAT GW, Transit GW, ALB, etc.)
  • Analytical problem-solving methodology with an outstanding ability to communicate and document effectively
  • Minimum of three years in Linux system administration with experience automating system processes with a variety of scripting languages or equivalent skills
  • Practical experience analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale, multi-region deployments in a public cloud (i.e. AWS)
  • Practical experience with laC, Cl/CD, structured configuration such as JSON or YAML, and version control solutions (i.e. git)
  • Experience in cloud deployment and management tools (e.g. Terraform, Puppet, Chef, Ansible)
  • Familiarity with one or more programming or scripting languages (Python/ PHP / Ruby)
  • Experience with LAMP stack: Linux, Apache, MariaDB/PostgreSQL/Aurora MySQL
  • Experience in database administration along with a fundamental understanding of structured query language
  • Knowledge of standard network/application protocols like HTTPS, SMTP, DNS, VPN
  • A BS in Computer Science or a related field such as engineering or mathematics and 3+ years of work experience in Information Technology, or 5+ years of work experience in Information Technology overall
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Additionally, a top candidate will exhibit one or more of the following preferred qualifications:

  • Proven experience optimizing cloud infrastructure and reducing cloud hosting costs, ideally inAWS
  • Experience using tools such as CloudHealth or AWS Cost Explorer.
  • A BA in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
