Why we have this role @ Koala

We are looking for a Performance Marketing Manager to lead our performance marketing channels in Koala Japan. This role will primarily consist of media buying via Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, and other programmatic media buying channels. 

What key responsibilities does this role have @ Koala?

  • Hands on execution & management & media buying on Paid Search, Paid Social and Programmatic (primary channels being Meta Ads &, Google SEM & Youtube).
  • Identify and test new channels and tactics for growth- constantly applying an experimentation mindset.
  • Collaborate in building & executing growth experimentation framework & principles for key digital marketing channels
  • Understand, implement and localize Koala’s global performance marketing approach, including internal tools such as performance media pacing sheet
  • Manage the planning of budget allocation for all digital media channels in line with revenue share and revenue growth targets.
  • Oversee meticulous platform, tracking and campaign set ups 
  • Regular reporting of key metrics for channels on weekly & monthly basis
  • Stay abreast of global and Japan-specific trends across Search, Social and Programmatic channels and share with wider Koala team as relevant

Ideal background...

  • 5-7+ years of hands-on implementation and strategic experience in performance/paid channels such as Search, Social and Programmatic
  • Nice to have: 2+ years experience in a DTC/ecommerce marketing team
  • Growth Marketing: Experience with growth marketing strategies and an experimentation mindset.
  • Local Market Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the Japanese digital marketing landscape.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, and programmatic media buying platforms.
  • Data Analysis: Skills in analyzing campaign data and performance metrics to optimize ads (e.g., using Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, Google Analytics etc).
  • Creativity & disruptive thinking: Innovative mindset with a track record of developing new and effective marketing strategies. Willingness to challenge status quo of Japanese media buying

This position is crucial as Koala Japan establishes its role as Sleep Expert; both overseeing and hands-on leading of all aspects of graphic design, copywriting, videography, and other creative content production activities. The role entails close collaboration with the marketing team to develop compelling sales content, promotional materials, and content for new product launches, in addition to project management. Furthermore, while maintaining brand standards, the role ensures the timely delivery of high-quality digital assets, meets client expectations, and drives effective marketing communication strategies.

  • Develop creative strategy for Brand assets
  • Aligned with the Koala Brand guidelines; develop and produces assets for video, print, sales, website and outdoor
  • Ensuring consistent visual aesthetic across our ‘always on’ content ideas, as well as larger scale ‘hero’ content
  • Lead product photo shooting projects; which includes arranging vendors, creating contact lists, coordinating products, providing art direction, and managing budgets, covering all processes and tasks necessary for product shoots.
  • Lead brainstorming sessions and creative workshops to generate innovative ideas and solutions that address business objectives and customer needs
  • Create Moodboards and storyboarding for key content
  • When required, seek out a range of creative suppliers, such as directors, photographers, video production company, sound studios and idea suppliers
  • Ensure that all creative work maintains brand consistency and effectively communicates our brand values and messaging across various channels.
  • Review and refine existing creative guidelines and brand standards to ensure they are up-to-date and reflective of the brand's current positioning and values.
  • Lead, motivate, and supervise production staff (copywriter, graphic designer), setting clear objectives and providing regular feedback.
  • Foster a positive team culture based on communication and collaboration. Monitor performance and address issues promptly.
  • Facilitate teams so that members think independently and collaborate autonomously to achieve business success, not simply to produce creative assets.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and support team members' development. Recognize achievements and promote a positive work culture.

Required skills and experience

  • A creative lead with minimum 5 years experience in the B2C ecommerce industry in Japan
  • Native Japanese speaker (and Conversational level or higher in English ideally)
  • Native understanding of Japanese culture, consumer and market
  • An expert with the Adobe Creative Suite (i.e. illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), Keynote or PowerPoint experience would also be desirable
  • Experience in offline ads such as TV, OOH, PR stunts
  • Expertise at digital ads for Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter
  • Experience in directing and organizing shoots, both photo and video
  • Knowledge of Japanese media industry, and how to produce creative executions that earn media attention and pickups
  • Understands how to take a creative concept through to execution stage
  • Strong awareness of technology and digital trends
  • Ability to work in a team as well as autonomously
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and within required deadlines

Nice to have

  • Proven experience in both online/offline asset production, including graphic design, copywriting, videography, and multimedia content creation

  • Develop and implement projects to enhance the Koala service offer across all touchpoints, leveraging operational metrics, customer feedback and process improvement methodologies.
  • Working closely with the functions across the operations department (e.g. Fulfilment, Customer Experience, New Ventures), own and drive continuous improvement initiatives.   
  • Identify inefficiencies in current Customer Service and Fulfilment processes. Propose/implement data led solutions to streamline operations with the objective of improving customer and Koala team member experience. 
  • Support and develop the overall strategic roadmap for the Operations department, working closely with the Chief of Staff department to ensure alignment with the overall business strategy. 
  • Work closely with marketing, sales, and product development teams to own and drive a cohesive customer experience for new product and iterative changes to SKUs.
  • Analyse customer, operational and financial data, identify trends and provide insights. Regularly report these findings to executive leadership with actionable recommendations.
  • Lead and mentor direct reports, ensuring high engagement and continuous skill development. 
  • Coach and support operations peers within the Operations department through partnership on complex projects. 
  • Stay informed of industry trends and competitor strategies to proactively recommend initiatives that will ensure Koala remains a trailblazer of customer experience excellence.

Ideal background…

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a customer experience role driving large scale projects. Consulting background is highly regarded. 
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a leadership/ people management role

Why we have this role @ Koala

We are looking for a Social Media Ad Creative Specialist to support our Growth team in Japan. The chosen candidate will primarily focus on producing highly engaging Instagram Reels Ads in Japanese: but will also be in charge of ad creative content for Meta, YouTube & Tik Tok. Must be someone who lives and breathes social media. They will be in charge of ad content from ideation to production, and will work with creators to develop effective content for our brand on a weekly basis. Must be able to create content (including copywriting) in Japanese.

What key responsibilities does this role have @ Koala?

  • Discover and create engaging hooks for each piece of content, ensuring all content is optimized to capture the maximum views and keep users engaged throughout
  • Assist the Growth Lead to produce content based on the testing framework for incremental content improvements, seeking insights from user interaction across platforms
  • Manage and lead outreach to content creators: facilitating constant stream of content each month via gifting products
  • Provide insights for content briefs going forward based on hook and engagement requirements
  • Analysis of Paid Social Creative performance using tools such as ‘Motion’ and ‘Facebook Ads Manager’, then using insights to optimize existing & future contents
  • Understand & share trends in Japanese social media content such as Instagram, Tik Tok etc
  • Lead and contribute to content brainstorms & strategic development for Paid Social

Required skills and experience

  • Business level Japanese and above (ideally native, but not pre requisite).  Proficiency in Business English. 
  • Ability to work in a fast paced DTC ecommerce marketing team
  • Video editing skills in SNS centric platforms such as CapCut
  • 2 years+ Digital Marketing background
  • Basic copywriting skills in Japanese
  • Basic data analysis skills

We are looking for a creative and strategic Paid Social Specialist to join our Growth team. This role is crucial in enhancing our social ad performance across various platforms. By mastering the nuances of social media advertising, you will play a key role in increasing Koala's brand awareness, driving engagement, and boosting conversions.

As the Paid Social Specialist, your primary responsibility will be managing and optimizing our social media ad campaigns. You will work with platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and others to ensure our ads are targeted effectively and performing at their best. Your role will involve audience targeting, ad creation, budget management, and performance analysis to maximize ROI.

We are seeking a creative and data-driven self-starter with a growth mindset who is keen to contribute to the Koala Growth trajectory through driving one of our key performance channels. With a keen eye for detail and a strategic growth mindset, you will continuously test and refine ad strategies based on performance metrics and market trends. What key responsibilities does this role have @ Koala?

  • Run the day to day management of Meta, Tiktok & Pinterest ads to daily performance targets
  • Optimise budget across all campaigns with various targets towards reach, ROAS / CPA targets and Retargeting objectives, all towards reaching growth & ROAS targets overall
  • Design and run the Paid Social strategy across top, middle & bottom funnel campaigns in order to efficiently drive new user acquisition and brand growth.
  • Automate core processes of managing the ads account to drive efficiency using external tools, rules & data projects.
  • Granularlily assess, optimise and research top performing creative outputs that drive performance, fit brand ethos and exceed innovation expectations.
  • Design and run the testing program for all creative with SMART goals and reporting insights back to the production team to constantly improve Social Ad Creative.
  • Design and run tests to discover further account and targeting efficiency from best practices, new platform features and net-new data-driven concepts.
  • Conduct regular health checks on the accounts, ensuring best practice is always implemented
  • Maintain a close relationship with platform partners, working to gain access to relevant alphas, betas & data support.
  • Manage and optimise feeds to drive incremental performance through feed driven performance campaigns.
  • Analyse and model market size opportunities for growth through social campaigns, and present back to the leadership team.
  • Regular weekly & monthly reporting on key improvements in Meta & TikTok Ads for planning learnings & tests coming up.

Ideal background…

  • 4-6+ years hands on experience running performance Social campaigns across Meta (Essential) and TikTok (preferred).
  • E-commerce performance experience essential
  • Proven data-driven decision making abilities across budgets, optimisations and audiences bidding
  • Proficient in designing automated reports for social platforms (experience in Motion preferred)
  • Proficient in Google Sheets / Excel, designing automated reports
  • Proven experience in designing test and learn strategies to drive growth through all campaign types
  • Proficient in the use of analytics platforms such as Google Analytics etc
  • Experience in working in fast paced team environments, contributing to successful outcomes
  • Keen eye for detail, with the ability to understand briefs and interpret them into actions, producing high quality output
  • Highly motivated self-starter, with the ability to pivot where required and prioritize effectively.
