An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Risk Team at AJ Bell. You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of an effective enterprise-wide risk management framework across AJ Bell. You will help to ensure that AJ Bell’s risk management framework is robust in identifying, assessing and managing risks.

What does the job involve?

The key responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • Supporting development of the Group Risk Management Framework across AJ Bell
  • Promoting a strong risk culture, educating and advising on the GRMF
  • Attending and facilitating risk forums with departments across AJ Bell
  • Providing support and challenge to risk owners on risk and controls assessments
  • Preparing and delivering training to enhance business understanding of risk management
  • Oversight of AJ Bell’s risk and control self-assessment (RCSA) process
  • Controls testing as part of the annual control effectiveness review (CER), which is a 2nd line review of the effectiveness of the Group’s controls  
  • Maintenance of the AJ Bell’s risk register (4risk), facilitating first line updates to risk and control data to ensure up-to-date
  • Embedding the risk incident process, providing independent assessment of incidents
  • Supporting the production of risk reporting where required for forums, committees and external reporting
  • Carrying thematic risk reviews for areas of risk within AJ Bell which are deemed to require additional assurance, due to factors such as, risk events, breaches, or market conditions
  • Providing risk input into the Internal Capital Adequacy and Risk Assessment (ICARA) process. Assisting with the Group’s ICARA scenario workshops
  • Developing and embedding the AJ Bell's Environmental, Social and Governance risk management framework and assisting with the production of the Group’s Taskforce for Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)

What we're looking for:

  • Risk management experience, ideally in financial services
  • Degree and / or appropriate professional qualifications
  • Comprehensive understanding of a risk framework, with experience as to how this can be embedded successfully
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders
  • Commercial awareness and pragmatism driving appropriate risk taking
  • Good report writing and presentational skills
  • Good knowledge of MS Office
  • High levels of attention to detail
  • Effective planning, organisation and time management skills
  • Exposure to regulatory frameworks
  • ICAAP/ICARA experience desirable
  • Control assurance experience desirable

The Compliance Policy Manager role supports the Senior Compliance Manager in providing input to product governance, engagement with product teams, regulatory projects, operational change and oversight of financial promotions. 

 

What does the job involve?

The key responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • Work with the Senior Compliance Manager and key stakeholders to continue embedding Consumer Duty across the business
  • Review and interpret regulation and regulatory developments, determine potential impact  to business and provide detailed advice and guidance to first line areas implementing business changes.
  • Monitor external developments and changes in industry best practice and provide advice and challenge to the business in the further enhancement of its control environment.
  • Play an active role in raising regulatory awareness through training in the business.
  • Assist the Senior Compliance Manager in the enhancement, implementation and maintenance of the Product Governance framework in line with FCA regulation.
  • Provide oversight to all documentation sign off including financial promotions.
  • Maintain oversight of FCA use of powers of product and financial promotions intervention and report to the business, including attending FCA or other events or seminars as required.
  • Assist in the provision of reports and MI in relation to compliance activities to governance committees/bodies as required.
  • Provide compliance CASS oversight, attending meetings where required, and assist the CASS Team with any Compliance related CASS queries.
  • Provide oversight of the maintenance of the Senior Manager and Certification Regime (SMCR) across all levels of the business.
  • Provide oversight of the Vulnerable Customers (VC) processes and provide support to the business where required.
  • Provide Compliance oversight for all aspects of transaction reporting and best execution activities.

Competence

  • Previous experience and knowledge of compliance in an FCA regulated firm.
  • Degree and / or appropriate professional qualifications
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the FCA Handbook, in particular in relation to the Consumer Duty and COBS rules and guidance.
  • (Desirable) Understanding of the FCA Client money and asset (CASS) rules.
  • Understanding of asset management and associated regulation

Knowledge & Skills

    • Creating own leads through targeted proactive communication
    • Onboarding new firms by ensuring thorough training plan is implemented and relevant ongoing training is provided to avoid poor outcomes
    • Dealing with high potential referrals provided by the Business Development Support team and through Marketing activities
    • Running face-to-face meetings with advisers as required

    Who would suit a BDC role:

    • Experience and proven success working proactively in a platform and investments environment
    • An understanding of investment platforms, investment propositions, financial advisers and their business practices
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience proactively building and maintaining customer relationships

    As Business Development Manager you will have full responsibility for regional activity and development including all agreed new business targets, as well as overall productivity of the South East North region. You should be located and willing to travel  across the region.

    What does the job involve?

    • Responsible for personal activity within South East North region in line with the role objectives, KPIs and targets
    • Ensure effective integration between the roles for the benefit of regional performance, e.g. BDS and BDC
    • Develop, monitor and review adviser firms within the segmentation model
    • Develop and maintain an efficient contact strategy with segmented advisers
    • Maintenance of all adviser relationships within the segmentation model in conjunction with team, BDS, BDC etc
    • Monitoring business levels from supporting advisers taking proactive and recovery action as appropriate
    • Working with the team to develop our identified Growth accounts and ensuring appropriate follow up strategy with Development firms
    • Regular contact to maintain and improve working relationship and business levels with all firms
    • Monitor and manage TV out activity
    • Work with the team to identify and prioritise target firms
    • Use all available MI to ensure maximum leverage from every firm
    • Take responsibility and own development plans in conjunction with the team
    • Develop and manage a Regional strategy to further develop our F+SS penetration with existing firms
    • Develop and manage a Regional strategy to develop our Investment solutions, MPS and Passive funds including new funds and products across the regional segmented adviser model
    • Deliver and co-ordinate technical and new business presentations and seminars, including effective use of available resource, e.g. Investment and Technical resource.
    • Co-ordinate and log all follow up to centralised seminars, e.g. Spotlight sessions, OTRs, Investival
    • Maintain adequate and relevant notes on activity and key new business relationships including ensuring contributions to spreadsheets are up to date
    • Maintain contact details and relationship notes within Outlook
    • Key Investment Partners (Regional) – maintain relationships and business activity
    • Fund groups (Regional) – manage and develop productive relationships
    • Platform demonstrations including tools such as Bulk Dealing and Models
    • On boarding and related issues, working with BDS
    • Oversee activity with on boarding firms
    • Manage any issues that arise
    • Co-ordinate use of 3rd party data systems, eg. Financial Express and Touchstone across the regional the team to identify and realise potential within the region
    • Deliver local team training/coaching as required to ensure regional team members are knowledgeable and confident with our own products and Investment solutions including key competitor details
    • Manage associated risks within the region

    About you:

    • You will have extensive experience in an IFA-facing sales/business development role
    • A proven network of adviser firms within region
    • Investment platform experience
    • SIPP and Investment (MPS and OEIC) sales experience
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the confidence to approach people at all levels of seniority
    • Effective planning, organisation and time-management skills
    • Excellent negotiation skills
    • Qualified to Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning (or Level 4 equivalent) is desirable
