The Data Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing an enterprise-wide data architecture that aligns with the organization's data strategy and goals. This role involves collaborating with internal teams, stakeholders, and leadership to manage data solutions across multiple platforms and ensure data quality, integrity, and security. The Data Architect will lead efforts to implement data-driven solutions, streamline data management processes, and support the organization in evolving its data architecture, including future initiatives like data mesh, data fabric, and graph databases.

The fundamentals for the job…

  • Coordinate with internal teams to support clients, data users, and key stakeholders to develop and achieve long-term objectives for data architecture.
  • Design short-term solutions to achieve project goals and create a data roadmap for management.
  • Determine procedures for identifying and collecting required data, validating processes, and recommending improvements to corporate data.
  • Oversee and monitor frameworks that manage data across the organization, ensuring data quality and integrity.
  • Support the Product and Data Management Team in applying methodologies that adhere to required data standards.
  • Administer mapping of all data sources and data movement, analyzing them to ensure appropriate quality. 
  • Collaborate with project supervisors and business leaders to manage enterprise data projects.
  • Manage data-related problems such as system configuration and integration on multiple platforms.
  • Provide training to staff on data management, improving operational efficiency.
  • Develop key metrics for data quality tests, ensuring data architecture integrity.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation for data architecture, ensuring knowledge on large data structures.
  • Analyze information flow and recommend appropriate technologies to support business processes.

What we expect of you 

The bold requirements…

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business or a related area (In lieu of a degree, equivalent, relevant work experience may be considered.)
  • 8+ years of experience implementing large-scale data solutions, particularly in healthcare and pharmacy data domains.
  • Deep knowledge and experience with data architecture, management strategies, including data profiling, cleansing, and conversion.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills with excellent oral communication, presentation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in communicating complex data architecture designs effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven track record of designing, implementing, and managing data architectures in large environments interfacing multiple subsystems.
  • Experience collaborating with architects and leads, serving as the data SME across architectural contexts.
  • Expertise in providing technical advice on data management, governance, and enterprise data integration strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience in data migration, transformation, and deployment in collaboration with DBAs, development, security, and operations teams.
  • Experience developing SLAs and data governance standards to ensure data integrity, retention, and compliance.
  • Familiarity with emerging data strategies and technologies like data mesh, data fabric, and graph databases.
  • Proven ability to manage data across technologies such as Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, CosmosDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, Solr, and Azure Service Bus for streaming.
  • Drive the design and implementation of a data-driven strategy across all components of Darwin, fostering the concept of data products per domain.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • This position requires availability to work in a specified time zone or working schedule, accommodating the business needs of our clients and team members.
  • This position may require availability for on-call hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to promptly address emergent issues or provide necessary support as dictated by operational demands (if applicable).

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL GET TO:

  • Apply your multi-cloud data architecture expertise while presenting Snowflake technology and vision to executives and technical contributors at prospects and customers
  • Partner with the sales team and channel partners to understand the architecture needs in a pre- and post-sales capacity, provide compelling value-based enterprise architectures, support enterprise Proof of Concepts, and ultimately support data consumption and cost optimization to meet our customers’ needs
  • Develop specialization in one or more current collaboration trends such as data mesh, data clean rooms, or data marketplaces
  • Drive improvements to the team and broader Snowflake sales engineering community and develop internal thought leadership on best practices and prescriptive guidance. Mentor SEs on collaboration topics and best practices.
  • Develop a leadership voice externally via speaking at conferences, hosting webinars, publishing blog posts, etc.
  • Work with Sales Engineering and customers to demonstrate and communicate implementation best practices on Snowflake technology
  • Maintain a deep understanding of competitive and complementary technologies to adjust and tune Snowflake parameters and logically explain the impact of these performance variables
  • Provide guidance and suggestions on how to resolve customer-specific technical challenges

ON DAY ONE, WE WILL EXPECT YOU TO HAVE:

  • 7+ years of Enterprise Architecture experience within the Enterprise Data space
  • Expertise with transfer of data from on-prem or hybrid cloud platforms using FTP, API or other federated protocols
  • Knowledge of replication or synchronization technologies for legacy and cloud systems
  • Knowledge of sharing features of other parts of the data sharing ecosystem such as Databricks, Redshift, BigQuery, or Synapse is optional, but a plus
  • Solid expertise in data governance
  • Mastery of SQL statements (ideally including Snowflake's powerful SQL extensions)
  • Hands-on Experience with Python, Streamlit, Container services  
  • Broad range of experience within the large-scale database and/or data warehouse technology, ETL, analytics and cloud technologies
  • Presentation skills to both technical and executive audiences
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters Degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or related fields, or equivalent experience preferred

Job Description

As Data Architect, you will be responsible for designing and developing robust and scalable data warehousing solutions. The Data Architect will be responsible for building data solutions based on the business requirements. Data solutions may involve retrieval, transformation, storage, and delivery of the data. The Data Architect must follow standards and implement best practices while writing code and providing production support for the enterprise data warehouse. Our ideal candidate is a skillful data wrangler who enjoys building data solutions from the ground up and optimizing their performance.

This full-time position reports to the Director of Enterprise Technology and has been categorized as a teleworker position. Teleworkers do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from home. It is required for teleworkers to reside in the metropolitan Mexico City area, as we will require attendance for occasional in-person events. To ensure sufficient overlap with functional and cross-functional team members globally, some flexibility with this role's regular work schedule will be required. Most of our teams have overlap with early morning and/or early evening PST. Specific scheduling needs for this role will be discussed in the initial interview.

What you’ll do:

  • Design and implement robust, scalable, and high-performance data solutions using Snowflake
  • Lead the migration of existing data platforms to Snowflake, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations
  • Manage the full lifecycle of data within Snowflake, from ingestion and storage to analytics and reporting
  • Conduct performance tuning and troubleshooting of the Snowflake environment to ensure optimal efficiency
  • Be accountable for building and maintaining the data infrastructure for the organization
  • Collaborate with systems analysts and cross functional partners to understand data requirements
  • Champion data warehouse, create denormalized data foundation layer and normalized data marts
  • Define strategies to capture all data sources and impact of business process changes on data coming from those sources  
  • Work on all aspects of the data warehouse/BI environment including architecture, design, development, automation, caching and performance tuning
  • Build required infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation and loading of data from various data sources on Cloud leveraging SQL, data cloud platforms like Snowflake
  • Identifying, designing and implementing internal process improvements including re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes
  • Working with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to support their data infrastructure needs while assisting with data-related technical issues
  • Continually explore new technologies like Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, Machine Learning, and Predictive Data Modeling

What you bring to the table:

  • 8+ years of professional experience in the data engineering field
  • Hands-on polyglot programming expertise
  • Extensive experience in designing, developing Snowflake Cloud Data Platform
  • Proficiency in Multi cloud platform like Azure, AWS and/or GCP
  • Experience in Azure Data Factory (ADF) or equivalent ETL tool
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing data pipelines using diverse data sources including databases, APIs, external data providers, and streaming sources
  • Demonstrated history of designing efficient data models using Medallion Architecture
  • Deep understanding and experience with relational (SQL Server, Oracle, Postgres and MySQL) and NoSQL databases
  • Experience building and supporting REST APIs for both inbound and outbound data workflows
  • Proficiency and solid grasp of distributed system concepts to design scalable and fault tolerant data architectures
  • Excellent critical thinking to perform root cause analysis on external and internal processes and data to identify opportunities for improvement and answer questions
  • Excellent analytic skills associated with working on structured and unstructured datasets
  • Ability to build processes that support data transformation, workload management, data structures, dependency and metadata
  • Ability to build and optimize data sets, ‘big data’ data pipelines and architectures
  • Ability to understand and tell the story embedded in the data at the core of our business
  • Ability to communicate with non-technical audience from a variety of business functions
  • Strong knowledge of coding standards, best practices and data governance
