Job Summary:  

Hands-on technology and leadership role, responsible for the North America architecture of major enterprise data and analytics solutions. Position includes data architecture related to platform redevelopment, driving strategy, data design and documentation, institution of process, policy, and standards, heavy team collaboration. Critical to the growth, globalization, and consolidation of data across the global enterprise. Position operates in a global data and reporting organization collaborating with regional entities aligning architecture, data, and reporting solutions. Will drive North America data agenda with global entities ensuring alignment with strategic desires and business requirements of local business. This position reports directly into the VP of Travel Insurance Program.  

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Design, create, and guide others in the effective management and support of enterprise data platforms in support of company strategic initiatives 

  • Drive architecture of data environment in support of application design and development, business analytics, reporting, and innovation 

  • Define and enforce standards for tooling, structure, and accessibility of data environment 

  • Collaborate with business, service, and enterprise architects to understand the implications of respective architectures on information architecture and maximize the value of information across the organization 

  • Provide mentorship and consultation to per IT and business partners 

  • Maintain a holistic view of information assets by creating and maintaining blueprints and documentation that illustrate how information is stored, processed, and accessed 

  • Performs third-party vendor assessments and develops and leads proof-of-concept projects 

  • Stays current with vendor product offerings and common and emerging data solutions in use across the industry; continuously learning new data technologies and introducing these into the organization 

  • Contribute to project delivery activities with heavy focus on design, engineering, and estimates during early project phases 

  • Partners with key stakeholders and peers to develop and maintain strategic technology and capability roadmaps 

Required / Desired Knowledge, Experiences and Skills: 

  • Skills & Knowledge 

  • Advance knowledge of established and emerging database technologies (Relational, NoSQL, Time Series, predictive analytics, data visualization, and unstructured data) 

  • Expert in information architecture development, information policy formation, information asset management, information modeling, and information taxonomy creation 

  • Deep knowledge of data modeling and design 

  • Working knowledge of usability design and data warehousing techniques 

  • Firm understanding of software development lifecycle (requirements, design, test, deployment, CI/CD) 

  • Expertise with big data solutions (Hadoop, Apache Storm, Cassandra) , business intelligence tools (Power BI, Tableau, SAS, SAP, etc), data consolidation and organization techniques in support of a highly analytical business  

  • Ability to measure and tune data environment performance 

  • Ability to work with internal business units and communicate regularly and effectively 

  • Ability to define reasonable expectations and deadlines for assigned tasks 

  • Ability to learn company technologies and contribute effectively 

  • Job Experience  

  • 10+ years of experience architecting enterprise data solutions 

  • Experience working with global and regional enterprise solutions with high availability and fault tolerance 

  • Expert in consultation, understanding and establishing strategic vision 

  • Expertise architecting and delivering end-to-end data solutions 

  • Expertise in architecting and developing data warehouse solutions, especially for enterprise reporting and analytics applications 

  • Expertise architecting and developing solutions in AWS, Azure, and cloud-based solutions 

  • Experience with SQL Server, Aurora RDS, DynamoDB 

  • Experience using Python and similar scripting technology 

  • Experience architecting and delivering Global data integration and ETL solutions 

  • Experience designing and developing performance-optimized data models 

  • Experience with BI & data analytics tools preferred 

  • Experience with Data Science and predictive analytics preferred 

  • Experience with HR and Finance applications preferred 

  • Experience with SAP financial reporting preferred 

  • Proficiency in data security 

  • Proficiency in data privacy 

  • Strong leadership skills 

Education/Certifications: 

  • B.S. or B.A. in the field of Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business, or equivalent in the combination of education and professional experience

The Role

The Data Architect / IT Architect will lead the solution design for the client’s Data Analytics platform and review progresses through private beta.

The Data Architect / IT Architect will provide and coordinate the architecture input to support an independent DataHub review.

The Data Architect / IT Architect will develop the vision and high-level design for the DataHub aligned with the client’s cross data analytics and technology domain, business requirements, capabilities and aligned with the outcomes of the independent review.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will be working with the client’s Data Domain / Technical Architects, Cloud, Infrastructure and Security Architecture to prepare a platform and solution vision, design, and roadmap for the DataHub aligned with the client’s cross data analytics and technology domain. This will include an assessment of the client’s current capabilities and an understanding of medium-term business requirements.
  • You will attend and support project meetings and to directly support the client with technical advice. Draw in the client’s cross domain expertise to align with the client’s cross architecture vision.
  • You will be working with the Architects to ensure alignment with architectural direction and intent, technical liaison for DataHub with technology suppliers. Activities will involve communication of technology vision and strategy, support of technology deliverables, oversight of architectural artefacts.
  • Working closely with core architecture, you will support the technical co-ordination, appropriate governance, and control (in line with the client’s approved programme and governance processes) for Proof of Value initiatives that can be deployed on DataHub as directed by the Programme.

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to join us as an Enterprise Data Architect. Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Data Engineering and Analytics  you will enable our data transformation in support of critical business and innovation objectives while supporting a growing team of data professionals.  

As our Enterprise Data Architect, you’ll play a leading role in determining the future state data needs of the enterprise. You’ll set data standards such as processes for data identification, ingestion, sharing, integration, cataloging, and documentation. You’ll own the enterprise information architecture layers and data models and will lead the master data management strategy for Assent.

  • Responsible for the creation of the ‘data’ component of the Data and Analytics strategy and roadmap taking into consideration enterprise strategy, business goals & market trends;

  • Provide architectural recommendations & guidance to project delivery and Enterprise Data Engineering teams as well as executive-level presentations.

  • Develop a data ecosystem that supports both the Business and Technology, utilizing a modern Data stack that includes best of breed tools and BI solutions that will enable assentees to make data driven decisions, have better access to data and to give our executive committee the data assets needed to make strategy and program level decisions.

  • Determine the data governance framework, standards and processes for data identification, ingestion, sharing, integration, cataloging (master data and source) and documentation;

  • Provide guidance on data standards and best practices to other stakeholders (data consumers and producers) 

  • Define the data architecture framework and standards. Drive standardization in all matters related to data entry, storage, and retrieval. 

  • Provide guidance to the enterprise data engineering and project implementation teams in creating the enterprise data structure, models, meta-data, quality standards and acceptable usage. Encourage and assist in operational use of data for business process functions.

  • Develop data-centric strategies and provide technical leadership and direction for data architecture best practices for the organization;

  • Ensures information assets are identified, managed, and used across the organization

  • Provide and validate solutions that will ensure data quality, secure Information, and the enablement of  Self-serve Reporting & Analytics, Advanced Analytics & AI, etc.

  • Lead an Architecture review board to ensure that data standards, policies, and practices are followed and that existing data assets are understood and utilized during new Enterprise technology implementations ensuring data is mastered, integrated, and maintained leading to a high level of trust in our enterprise data. 

  • Lead in the development of governance processes and strategies and ensure Enterprise Data standards and policies are enacted in technology delivery

  • Govern the implementation of the architecture during delivery ensuring our systems are scalable, have a high level of  data quality, and are secure . 

  • Partner with the Data Engineering team in the translation of critical business needs into high level solutions that ultimately leads to the development of high impact Enterprise data products ensuring our teams have the data assets necessary to meet company objectives such as AR growth, customer retention,  Enterprise scalability, and trust .  

  • Follow guidance set out by corporate security policies and standards as well as departmental security processes and procedures where applicable to ensuring a secure network environment protecting our brand reputation

Qualifications

  • Degree in Business, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or a related field. An advanced degree in a related discipline would be considered an asset.

  • 10+ years data solution experience, with extensive knowledge in conceptual and logical data models

  • 5+ Enterprise architecture design experience covering data integration, BI and analytics 

  • Proven success supporting a data analytics solution within an organization

  • Senior knowledge of Data Management practices and Business Intelligence and Analytics capabilities and modern best practice architectures 

  • Strong knowledge of business intelligence systems, data lake, data warehousing, relational database management, etc.

  • Strong knowledge of data modeling, data quality & data governance tools

  • Knowledge of cloud based data services (Databricks, AWS, data lake, Snowflake, DBT, Fivetran.)

  • Knowledge about SQL Server, MySQL,  Tableau, Erwin, SalesForce

Seeking an Enterprise Data Architect (transforming rudimentary information capability into world-class information system) with the ability to work with VP- and C-level leadership to concretely define the business model, partnering with SMEs to map business processes against data and information assets.

Responsibilities:

Operations:

Manage data warehouse Dev/Ops and the teams supporting the same.

Document and develop in-depth knowledge of Pinnacle's existing data warehouse architecture/infrastructure and technology portfolio

Work to modify, test, and implement existing ETL process in a cloud-based environment

Define and implement best practices for change management and source code control.

Build and refine Technical Support and Training Documentation for IT Team and end users.

Train IT Team to support, maintain, enhance, and optimize Data Warehouse and ETL processes.

 

Leadership / Expertise:

Presentation of cloud solutions to both business and technical audiences, including the ability to present to senior leadership

Development:

Design, build, verify, and implement a scalable Data Warehouse environment utilizing the Microsoft Azure technology stack/data factory.

Verify and finalize project plan.

Gather and document end user business requirements.

Design, build, verify, and implement optimized Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes utilizing Microsoft technology stack, Dell Boomi, or similar

Develop an enterprise-grade, high-performance, scalable data warehouse environment that is comprised of, but limited to, the following:

Data Warehouse

Data Lake

Operational Data Store

Stage transitional environments

ETL, both real-time and bulk

Development & quality environments

Data Marts / PowerBI platform

Develop and execute test plans to check IT cloud infrastructure and systems technical performance. Report on findings and make recommendations for improvement

 

Secondary Responsibilities (BI / Analytics):

Design, build, and implement pre-defined, scheduled, ad hoc, and dynamic reports and dashboards using Microsoft SSRS and Microsoft Power BI.

Optimize Microsoft SSRS Report Portal.

Optimize Microsoft Power BI Dashboard Portal.

Manage the data modeling work for the formulation of a fundamental support business.

Development of the organization’s BI platform, including automated reporting, smart subscriptions using Data Driven SSRS, self-service tools, and artifact/documentation cataloging.

CR systems and human processes to guide the shift from a BI organization to an Insights organization.

 

Qualifications:

Expert (7+ years) in Microsoft SQL Server, SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, and T-SQL.

Expert (5+ years) in Microsoft PowerShell, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Power BI.

Expert (7+ years) in data modeling, design, and development.

Experience with Azure Data Factory (ADF) creating multiple complex pipelines and activities using both Azure and On-Prem data stores for full and incremental data loads into a Cloud DW

Experience managing Azure Data Lakes (ADLS) and an understanding of how to integrate with other Azure Services.

Extensive knowledge of Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence including various data modeling methodologies and techniques

Experience delivering an ETL solution in a Data Warehouse environment as the lead

Deep and verifiable experience designing, building, and implementing Data Warehouse solutions with the Microsoft technology stack.

Deep and verifiable experience designing, building, and implementing scalable, high volume ETL processes with the Microsoft technology stack.

Deep and verifiable experience with a wide variety of system, data, and file input types.

Experience designing, building, and implementing Microsoft SSRS Reports and

Microsoft Power BI Dashboards would be a plus.

Experience with Hyperion, Tableau, R, Python, and Azure Machine Learning would be a plus.

  • 8+ years of overall professional experience including at least 4 years hands-on experience working in Data Architecture or Data Science or combination.
