What You'll Do:

  • Financial Statement Preparation:
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual compiled financial statements for a diverse range of small business clients.
  • Client Management:
    • Manage multiple clients concurrently, offering assistance with accounting, payroll, and basic software issues.
    • Establish and maintain positive client relationships through clear and professional communication.
  • Customer Service Excellence:
    • Provide a high level of customer service with a strong focus on follow-through.
    • Ensure timely reporting to meet weekly and monthly deadlines and goals.
  • Practice Management:
    • Accurately maintain practice management reports, handling sensitive and confidential business matters.
  • Expertise in Accounting:
    • Exhibit a thorough knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
    • Demonstrate good judgment in problem-solving across various organizational levels.
  • Collaborative Work Environment:

Qualifications

  • Education: While having an Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred, it's not a strict requirement to apply. We welcome candidates with diverse educational backgrounds who possess the skills and passion for the role.
  • Work Experience: Ideally, you have 1-3 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or a related role. However, we also encourage individuals with less experience to apply – your enthusiasm and willingness to learn count for a lot.
  • QuickBooks Proficiency: A strong working knowledge of QuickBooks is a must, with a preference for QuickBooks Online (QBO). If you hold certifications in QuickBooks Desktop or Online, that's a plus. If you don't have these certifications, a strong desire to obtain them is essential.
  • Microsoft Office Skills: You should be proficient in Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook. These tools are integral to our daily operations and client interactions.

We’re hiring a core group of seasonal tax preparers who will work during peak busy seasons (early January thru mid-April)with the opportunity available to become part of an annual recurring seasonal team. This core group of professionals will primarily review tax returns based on experience and may provide other basic accounting services with prior experience. If you are looking for experience during our peak season with opportunities for continuing tax education during the year, then come join the Kaizen Tax Team.

A successful Tax Preparer will:

  • Prepare individual federal and state income tax returns
  • Verify past tax forms for accuracy
  • Calculate and invoice form preparation fees per firm policy as returns are prepared
  • Frequently interface with client personnel to review and apply accounting and tax principles
  • Contact clients by phone or email to gather necessary information
  • Review files to ensure that they possess the necessary signatures, contain the necessary supporting documentation, and comply with filing due dates
  • Obtain proper filing extensions when necessary
  • Perform detailed review on tax returns, research, and compliance work with an emphasis on calculations, accounting theory, and tax law compliance, depending on experience
  • Perform all work in compliance with the firm’s policies and procedures
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality, personal and ethical standards
  • Maintain technical tax skills through on the job training and participation in internal tax training sessions
  • Other duties may be assigned

Qualifications

  • 2 or 4-year accounting degree or equivalent experience preferred but not required
  • 1-2 plus years of tax return review experience preferred but not required
  • CPA, JD, or EA license preferred but not required
