As the Senior Sales Manager, you will be instrumental in driving B2B revenue growth within the accommodation, property and interior design sector.  Your focus will extend to identifying and leveraging new commercial opportunities in our Non-Core Channels, including wholesale and marketplace avenues. The role will be a valuable contributor in helping Koala achieve its future revenue aspirations.

What key responsibilities does this role have @ Koala?

  • Revenue Growth - Develop and execute sales strategies to drive B2B revenue in the accommodation, property, and interior design sectors, ensuring alignment with overall business goals.
  • Business Development - Conduct market research to identify new opportunities and trends within the industry, particularly in Non-Core Channels, and leverage insights to inform sales strategies.
  • Customer Satisfaction - develop and implement strategies to continue and enhance customer satisfaction as well as improve profitability and growth
  • Contract Management - Oversee contract negotiations and management to ensure favourable terms and compliance with company policies.
  • Client Management - Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and loyalty as you transition accounts from development to management.
  • Collaboration - Work closely with the marketing and product development teams to create compelling sales materials and campaigns that resonate with target audiences.
  • Performance Tracking - Monitor sales performance metrics, including revenue, margin, and customer feedback, to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Leadership - Mentor and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Ideal Background 

  • 10+ years of proven experience in a sales role, preferably within the B2B sector focusing on the accommodation, property, or interior design sector.
  • A commercial leader who has overseen many different facets of driving revenue (sales/category, growth marketing, social/search, performance marketing and/or creative development).
  • Strong track record of driving revenue growth and managing client relationships.
  • Exceptional negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical mindset with experience in market research and data-driven decision-making.
  • Great people and business leader with experience of holding full P&L accountability at a high-growth company and collaborating cross-functionally to drive business outcomes.

  • Develop, lead, and execute eCommerce strategy.
  • Manage end-to-end website development and day-to-day operational execution.
  • Create and execute a comprehensive experimentation pipeline to test and refine various aspects of the online experience, ensuring we always have the highest converting experience for our customers.
  • Lead retention and loyalty strategy development/implementation to drive LTV through engagement, increased customer return rate and repeat purchases.
  • Monitor industry trends and competitor activities to ensure our eCommerce platform remains competitive and customer-centric.
  • Oversee the management of the eCommerce platform, ensuring uptime, security, and scalability.
  • Oversee user experience and website performance testing and auditing, including user testing, A/B testing, and analytics monitoring to optimize conversion rate and AOV.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Marketing, Supply Chain, and Customer Service to ensure seamless eCommerce operations.
  • Hire, mentor, and lead a world-class team of designers, engineers, and product managers.
  • Articulate eCommerce strategy and vision across cross-functional and brand teams to streamline communication and prioritize opportunities to drive maximum success. 
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and customer-centricity within the team.
  • Active tracking and analysis of performance metrics, providing data driven insights to CRM and to greater marketing team
  • Lead reviews program: using Yotpo and other tools to strategize review acquisition & management
  • Reporting of success of review & CRM program during key weekly/monthly meetings

Required skills and experience

  • Native fluency in Japanese and proficiency in Business English.
  • Regularly use Japanese e-commerce sites and online content as a consumer, with a deep understanding of eCommerce trends and user shopping behavior in Japan.
  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant work experience as a hands-on eCommerce leader in a fast-growth consumer brand.
  • Experience in managing all aspects necessary for operating an online store as an eCommerce manager, including production, design, CMS operations, inventory management, sales promotion planning and execution, copywriting, and sales management.
  • Able to write well-defined specifications, user stories, delivery tickets, and documentation that clearly communicate expected product outcomes.
  • Proven success working with design and development teams using agile/scrum methodology.
  • Previous experience in building and migrating Shopify stores.
  • Analytical thinker with expertise in using qualitative and quantitative data to validate hypotheses, drive decisions, and increase revenue. Earned media and influencers are a key growth driver for brand awareness & revenue for Koala Japan. The chosen candidate will be someone who brings a modern approach to a traditional industry in Japanese PR & Communications, constantly on the lookout for new ways to grow the business via worthy PR stunts, campaigns & initiatives.

What key responsibilities does this role have @ Koala?

  • Create PR & Communication strategies for brand, new products and promotions 
  • Work with PR agency, lead ideation & execution of PR initiatives that will drive earned media or viral attention
  • Develop PR plan and calendar monthly, quarterly in line with marketing strategy
  • Work with other Marketing functions (Creative and Sales Marketing) to align brand voice, and communicate this across holistic media channels
  • Content production of PR-related materials such as press releases, PR event production, campaigns etc
  • Tap into a broad network of journalists & TV networks to drive earned media 
  • Work with agencies, create and manage influencer campaign that will drive site traffic and conversion
  • Plan & manage owned and earned social media contents and operations 
  • Support to supervise metric driven reporting of PR & communication activities 
  • Bring a revenue & growth-oriented mindset to PR
  • Project management and future team management

Ideal background…

  • 5+ years working experience with a PDCA cycle mindset
  • Experience of learning a lot from work failures
  • 3+ years experience of producing owned media content
  • 5+ years experience working within a communications agency or in-house consumer brand
  • Experience and enjoyment working in fast-paced global start-up business environment
  • Prior contacts with local journalists and media preferred 
  • Experience working within social media/ influencer marketing/ PR preferrable 
  • Demonstrable knowledge showing use of data/how data informs PR
  • Interest in growth or performance marketing, and how these interact with PR is a bonus
  • Japanese native level and English business level is required

We are looking for a CRM Specialist to support our growth team in Japan. The chosen candidate will primarily focus on email marketing, but will also be tasked with running our reviews program via Yotpo. 

What key responsibilities does this role have @ Koala?

  • CRM strategy: Develop and implement innovative CRM strategies, focusing on email & reviews programs to drive business growth and customer loyalty.
  • Accountable from strategy, execution, to operations for CRM
  • Creative problem-solving: Use your analytical skills to continuously refine our CRM approach, ensuring maximum engagement and revenue generation.
  • Perform CRM marketing activities including, but not limited to; campaign briefing, copywriting, email development (including basic HTML coding), email optimisation and testing.
  • Active tracking and analysis of performance metrics, providing data driven insights to CRM and to greater marketing team
  • Lead reviews program: using Yotpo and other tools to strategize review acquisition & management
  • Reporting of success of review & CRM program during key weekly/monthly meetings

Required skills and experience

  • Native fluency in Japanese.  Proficiency in Business English. 
  • 3 years+ Digital Marketing background
  • Klaviyo experience ideal but not essential: but candidate must be responsible for up skilling on Klaviyo if chosen
  • Experience in D2C/ecommerce marketing team
  • Basic copywriting skillset
  • Data skill (analytics and reporting) and familiarity with google analytics
  • Strong digital and customer-first acumen.
