We are hiring a Rails Engineer to work on a pivotal Federal program that is making a positive impact on millions of Americans' daily lives.

What you'll be doing:

Working hand in hand with other engineers in developing API endpoints and services that proxy requests to various other applications. Some of these rely on message queues, some are xml, some are json. Day to day work will involve writing code, developing tests, and debugging. Our engineers are expected to give input on high level architecture and coding decisions.

What you’ll bring:

  • 4+ years experience in working with Ruby on Rails
  • Minimum of 3 years working in an Agile software development environment
  • Programming in a major open source language, such as Ruby, Python, Go, Java, or JavaScript
  • Understanding of the fundamental technologies of the web: HTTP, SSL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and JSON
  • Experience with a front end JS framework (like Angular, React, Backbone) 
  • Extensive experience in taking program requirements and creating an architecture vision with experience in high volume and high availability networks and systems
  • Experience in creating and conveying to team members the architectural vision for a program or project
  • Build APIs that support both the digital services we deliver as well as third-party usage
  • Use unit and integration testing to ensure systems meet business needs
  • The ability to write code that is a pleasure for other engineers to read and understand
  • Experience with all phases of the software development lifecycle - from gathering and analyzing user/business system requirements to creating application system models
  • Experience participating in design meetings and consulting with your project team to refine, test, and debug programs in order to meet business needs
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services, in particular EC2, S3, and RDS preferred

  • Must be able to  attain low-level security clearance

Compensation:

At Oddball, it’s important each employee is compensated competitively and fairly. In alignment with state legal requirements. A range for the included position is listed below. Be advised, actual offer details are determined by job category, job location, and candidate skill level.

United States Wage Range: $100,000 – $150,000

Your profound expertise in Kubernetes (K8s), scripting, Linux administration, and AWS services will be instrumental in scaling our dynamic ecosystem. You'll be entrusted with the stewardship of our large-scale production environment, encompassing hundreds of servers, complex backend databases, and a comprehensive suite of AWS products that are the lifeblood of our operations.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

- Production Environment Leadership: Take the helm in overseeing the robustness and resilience of our Eduspire products' production environment, serving millions of active users and sustaining a remarkable 100% year-over-year growth rate.

- Proactive Monitoring and Security: Utilize advanced tools such as CloudWatch, DataDog, GuardDuty, SecurityHub, and Trusted Advisor to vigilantly monitor and promptly address system and security challenges.

- AWS Expertise: Configure and provide unwavering support for AWS services, including RDS, EC2, ElastiCache, ELB, SES, ECS, and KMS, ensuring the foundation of our infrastructure is rock-solid.

- Troubleshooting Excellence: Demonstrate your prowess by swiftly identifying, diagnosing, and resolving issues that may surface within our intricate production environment.

- Infrastructure Automation Mastery: Harness the power of Kubernetes (K8s), Helm charts, Docker images, Packer, and Terraform scripting to automate infrastructure deployment and maintenance.

- Collaborate Globally: Work seamlessly with our Eastern European offshore development team to ensure cohesive operations and effective collaboration.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

 

- Linux Authority: Leverage your extensive background in debugging and troubleshooting Linux systems, encompassing network and file system management.

- Automation Expert: Showcase your mastery in deploying and maintaining infrastructure through Kubernetes (K8s), Helm charts, Docker images, Packer, and Terraform scripting.

- Scripting Virtuosity: Demonstrate your scripting prowess with proficiency in Python and Bash, delivering solutions that drive efficiency.

- AWS Proficiency: Possess deep knowledge of AWS Linux 2 and a proven track record in managing complex AWS-based infrastructures.

- Networking Expertise: Leverage your solid foundation in networking protocols, including DNS, HTTP(S), UDP/TCP, and SSL.

- Technology Stack Enthusiast: Bring your knowledge of Redis and your familiarity with the LAMP stack to enhance our technology ecosystem.

Location and Work Environment
