RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES-Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist | Cultural Resources Field Guides [FPAC011016]
The GIS Specialist is tasked with developing and managing spatial data that supports the identification and mapping of cultural resources in the project regions. This includes creating detailed maps, analyzing spatial relationships, and integrating GIS data into the field guides. The specialist works closely with the project team to ensure that geographic information is accurate, up-to-date, and effectively used to enhance the utility of the guides.. A Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist designs, develops, and implements systems and databases to access and store geospatial data. GIS specialists design digital maps using geospatial data and analyze spatial and non-spatial information.

This includes conducting research, analyzing artifacts, and contributing to the development of region-specific content for the field guides. The archaeologist will collaborate with other team members to ensure that prehistoric artifacts and site types are accurately represented and easily identifiable by FSA staff.. Often the field focuses on ages such as the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age, although it also encompasses periods such as the Neolithic. The study of prehistoric archaeology reflects the cultural concerns of modern society by showing interpretations of time between economic growth and political stability.
