About the role:

Samsara is looking for an experienced engineering director to lead our Platform team in Poland. Our Platform org is responsible for the core enterprise capabilities that powers Samsara’s Connected Operations platform as well as providing shared capabilities that accelerate our internal product engineering teams. This includes areas such as Reporting, Alerting, Org/User management, Release management, Monetization, Mobile, Web capabilities to support our rapidly growing footprint of customers. In this role, you will: 

  • Drive the vision, roadmap and priorities for Samsara’s Platform teams.
  • Ensure high technical standards through both processes and the culture you instill.
  • Mentor and grow engineering managers and staff/senior engineers.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • 10+ years of industry experience in software engineering/development
  • 7+ years of engineering management experience
  • A track record of building high performing software teams 
  • Willingness to dive-deep and solve challenging technical problems

An ideal candidate also has:

  • Experience managing managers and teams of 40+ engineers
  • A customer-focused mindset and good product sense
  • 5+ years of experience in SaaS software development roles
  • BS in Computer Science or Engineering
  • Experience with best practices around testing, monitoring, and SLAs to ensure high product quality in large-scale distributed web services

Primary duties

Responsibilities

About You

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in software development with a focus on application development using React, Javascript, Next.JS, Rails or similar frameworks
  • 6+ years in a Senior Engineering management role
  • A proven track record of evolving and up-leveling Engineering team practices, motivating and retaining a high-performing team
  • Deep technical expertise in application development, architecture, performance optimization, and best practices
  • Deep knowledge of e-commerce and the technology that powers the end-to-end customer experience. Subscription and direct to consumer experience is a plus

    Requirements:    
    • B.Sc or M.Sc in Computer Science or equivalent
    • 10+ years of experience in software development
    • Deep domain knowledge and hands-on capabilities in at least one of the following areas: cloud environments, web applications, databases, networking, application/network/data, ML/AI, security, SaaS
    • Experience in the development of cloud-native solutions and good understanding of the different public cloud services
    • Excellent leadership, collaborative management practices, communication and interpersonal skills; strong attention to detail and organizational skills
    • Foster team culture and practice of mentorship and collaboration
