Square’s purpose is economic empowerment; since the company’s beginning, we have been helping numerous people start and manage their own businesses. During the pandemic, many small businesses struggled, as they scramble to adapt to going online to reach their customers.

The Orders team has a mission to enable sellers to reach their customers anywhere, and provide a seamless experience to the customers (e.g. buy online, pickup in store) that today might only be available from much larger merchants. We have already started rolling out to a small percentage of sellers, with a goal of expanding this to all sellers. Furthermore, we strive to build an Orders platform that empowers both teams at Square and an ecosystem of third-party developers to support our sellers in this bright future ahead.

This is a massive undertaking with huge challenges. We have a wide range of sellers with many different needs, and to meet those needs, we work with many stakeholder teams at Square in navigating dependencies and intertwined technical / product ambiguities. Orders Core team owns the Order APIs and the legacy Bills system which are at the center of all commerce at Square. We own two very critical services. We are looking for someone who is passionate about building scalable, resilient and highly available systems and can help us take Order APIs through its next evolution. 

As a tech lead on the Orders Core team, you will 

You will:

• Play a crucial role in building solutions for our first and third-party customers that support our mission of empowering our sellers to succeed by helping them throughout their entire business lifecycle. 
• Build and maintain highly reliable, available and resilient Orders system.
• Lead the design/development of Orders API solutions that are used by first and third-party developers to interact with the orders platform
• Lead by example and help foster a culture of positivity, psychological safety, and inclusivity within the team
• Work with other engineers and PM’s across multiple teams to gather requirements, design, develop, test, launch, and maintain features
• Mentor other engineers and contribute to the technical direction of the team
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to other engineers (both on our team and outside of our team)
• Help maintain and improve the processes we use to manage our work
• Be excited to work in the middle of the Orders ecosystem and solve complex problems that require high availability and reliability
• Be on-call for the applications our team owns

Qualifications

You have:

• 8+ years of industry experience designing and building APIs using Java or an equivalent language
• Experience with, and a passion for, creating and maintaining a public API

• Experience with orders systems (ecom, retail, restaurant, appointments, etc.) or equivalent multi component large size / scale system
• Experience leading complex technical projects, e.g. cross-team programs 
• A strong sense of customer empathy and an interest in influencing the direction of the product
• Excellent software engineering knowledge and the ability to provide technical mentorship and guidance.

About the team

Machine Learning Foundations (MLF) builds scalable, composable components for ML use cases. About the role

We are looking for an experienced engineer to join MLF. While your initial focus will be building self-service tooling for the model lifecycle, particularly model deployments, serving, and monitoring, you will also have opportunities to work across the entire machine learning lifecycle. As a platform engineer, you will work closely with our internal customers to understand their needs and translate those into sustainable software solutions.

We are looking for someone who has experience primarily as a machine learning engineer or modeler, as well as a software engineer, as we operate at the intersection of those two roles. Candidates must demonstrate professional experience with the end-to-end ML lifecycle, and we prefer candidates who also have experience building platforms. Beyond that:

We are looking for a Credit Risk Underwriter to help manage chargeback risk for some of the largest sellers processing on Square. The underwriter will perform regular credit risk reviews by incorporating in-depth financial analysis, as well as  research on management, industry, and the  macroeconomic environment. With a forward-looking view, the underwriter will have commercial credit underwriting skills, and take joy in scouring financial statements to understand a company’s business model, key risks, and mitigating factors. Additionally, you  will collaborate with our Sales and Account Management, and Policy teams to provide a seamless seller experience ensuring appropriate risk assessment and controls. Lastly, they will take every opportunity to improve our operations and our people by helping us create better solutions to assess risk and support our sellers. You will report to the APAC Credit Risk Lead (based in Sydney).

This role can be located anywhere on the East Coast of Australia, and can work from home or in our Melbourne office. 

You will:

• Conduct in-depth credit reviews of our highest-risk sellers, including preparing credit memorandums for approval by senior management
• Lead due diligence calls with prospective and existing sellers to ensure that key risks are fully understood and mitigated
• Manage partnerships with Sales and Account Management teams to ensure underwriting, onboarding, and account management processes are timely, seamless, and well-understood
• Present Credit Risk recommendations to partners, including senior management, and provide context and rationale for recommendations to partners. 
• Support principled risk-taking in emerging products and markets by building frameworks for credit analysis 
• Contribute to the development of credit policies and  help test new risk management tools
• Proactively identify ways to improve our underwriting and operations; and collaborate to build strategic programs
• Share insights and expertise with the team; promote accountability for team-level and individual results
   

Qualifications

You have: 

• 4+ years of experience in commercial banking, commercial credit, or payment industries
• Advanced commercial credit underwriting skills, including complex financial statement analysis
• Familiarity with diverse risk management tools and techniques
• Strong professional communication skills internally and externally; ability to work with clients to understand their business and gather information
• Data skills and ability to translate findings into interpretable business case
• BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field

Job Description

The TBD Compliance team supports Block’s internal blockchain services including: bitcoin wallet infrastructure and digital asset custody, on/off chain risk monitoring, liquidity management, and Lightning services. The team also supports new innovative technologies and products at Block including decentralized identity, the open-source decentralized messaging protocol (tbDEX), and regulated financial services offered by TBD such as remittances and global on/off ramps. We are closely embedded within the business functions to provide real time compliance guidance, requirements, and education to the product, engineering, and operations teams. Our team collaborates regularly with legal and policy experts to ensure our products and services remain in compliance with all regulatory requirements, local laws and industry best practices. 

We are looking for a Compliance Officer (CO)/Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) to lead all compliance management and oversight activities for our Bermuda entity. This role is required to be based in Bermuda and interact on a regular basis with the Bermuda Regulatory Authority’s DBA team to communicate our compliance program and maintain our license in good standing. 

As an embedded member of the TBD Compliance team, you will leverage the TBD and Block compliance resources to promote a culture of compliance in Bermuda, and design a compliance framework (including processes and controls) that aligns with all applicable regulations in Bermuda. You must be a subject matter expert in Bermuda financial regulations and well acquainted with the Digital Asset Business Act 2018 regulated digital asset businesses in Bermuda. 

The successful candidate will report to TBD’s Head of Compliance and will play a pivotal role in helping to maintain our local compliance program and regulatory licenses in good standing and to ensure that Block’s global products and services remain compliant. This role must be based in Bermuda and will need to be present in the local office on a regular basis.

You Will:

• Own and oversee the compliance program for the Bermuda entity, working closely with compliance team members to enhance and scale the program as needed. Specific compliance program activities include:

  • Updating and delivering AML Compliance training on an annual basis;

  • Defining onboarding, sanctions, monitoring, and reporting requirements for Bermuda;

  • Drafting, reviewing and maintaining policies and procedures, including ensuring alignment with Block wide policies;

  • Identifying control gaps or compliance risks,and designing corrective action and remediation plans; and

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable regulatory and legal obligations

• Provide local subject matter expertise and strategic insights, guidance, and decisions on compliance matters for the entity

• Be the primary compliance contact for the Bermuda Monetary Authority, third party auditors, and external partners

• Represent the voice of compliance with important internal partners including senior and executive managers along with the Bermuda entity board of directors

• Collaborate with legal and policy experts to ensure our products and services remain in compliance with all regulatory requirements, local laws and industry best practices 

• Recruit and hire a team of compliance and risk professionals in Bermuda to perform necessary compliance functions for the entity

Qualifications

• 12+ years experience in anti-money laundering, risk management, operational risk, product controls or other relevant compliance management functions 

• Prior experience working for the Bermuda Monetary Authority or a licensed financial services entity under the BMA is essential

• Prior experience working with blockchain technology, decentralized ecosystems, or regulated digital asset products/services is preferred

• Comprehensive understanding of Bermuda anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing (AML/ATF) regulations and all relevant regulatory guidance

• Tactical experience on how to manage independent audits, regulatory examinations, and regular communication with the BMA supervision and exam team

• Impeccable ethical standards and the professional qualifications to pass the BMA fit and proper assessment

The Financial Crimes Technology team at Cash App detects and reports illegal and suspicious activity on Cash App. We work globally with partners in Product, Counsel and Engineering to ensure we are providing a safe user experience for our customers while minimizing or eliminating bad activity on our platform.

We use Machine Learning and Generative AI as an important part of our toolkit. As Cash App scales, we monitor hundreds of billions of dollars in transactions across traditional payment and blockchain networks. Our systems block payments in real-time where appropriate. We use generative AI technologies to improve agent workflow and case review tools, by adding features that accelerate agent productivity and allow them to make more informed and accurate decisions. We are looking for a senior MLE that can integrate vertically into the ML sub-team and focus on building/enhancing tools, libraries, frameworks, developer environments etc. for ML modeling workflows.

This is an IC role reporting into the Data Science and ML Modeling Manager that has leadership responsibilities including driving strategic roadmaps and priorities to completion by collaborating with cross functional stakeholders.
