What Will You Do? 

As a Senior Data Platform Architect, you will lead the design, implementation, and operation of a data lake using AWS data lake technologies. You will with work closely with a ringfenced team of system engineers, data analysts and a delivery manager to develop robust, scalable, and secure data infrastructure that aligns with our business objectives and analytics needs. This role requires deep expertise in AWS cloud technologies, hands-on implementation skills, and the ability to guide teams in deploying advanced data solutions. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Design, Build, and Operate Data Lakes - Architect, develop, and manage scalable data lake solutions using AWS services such as Amazon S3, AWS Glue, AWS Lake Formation, and Amazon Athena. 
  • Data Ingestion Pipelines - Design and implement data ingestion pipelines using AWS Glue, Amazon Kinesis, and other relevant services to ensure efficient, real-time data collection. 
  • Data Processing and Transformation - Utilise AWS EMR, Apache Spark, and AWS Lambda for ETL processes and large-scale data processing. 
  • Data Cataloguing and Management - Implement and manage metadata using AWS Glue Data Catalog to enhance data discoverability and governance. 
  • Collaboration with Teams - Partner with development, data engineering, and analytics teams to integrate applications and analytics platforms with the data lake. 
  • Performance Optimisation - Continuously improve the performance and cost efficiency of the data lake architecture. 
  • Security and Compliance - Implement robust data security measures using AWS IAM, AWS KMS, and AWS Lake Formation to maintain compliance with data regulations and best practices. 
  • Technical Leadership - Provide mentorship and technical direction to team members, ensuring best practices are followed in data architecture and cloud deployments. 
  • Stay Current - Maintain expertise in emerging AWS data technologies and trends, applying them were beneficial to business objectives. 

Expectations

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. 
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering or related roles. 
  • 3+ Years experience in a data architect role, providing technical direction to the organisation and leadership to junior engineers 
  • Experience in leading and managing junior engineers 
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms like AWS and its associated services 
  • Experience with Glue Jobs, Apache Spark or Python and SQL 
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. 
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI. 
  • Experience in implementing robust security measures and ensuring compliance with regulations and best practice 
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, and efficient code. 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality. 
  • Experience with orchestration tools like Apache Airflow would be advantageous

Compensation range

For cash compensation, we set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. Key responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Participate in building target architectures and long-term strategic roadmaps of Product & Transformation, together with our Solutions, Engineering and Information Systems teams; become the owner of Data Strategy on architecture side

  • Stakeholder Guidance: Advise business and technical stakeholders, both within and outside Data & Analytics, on self-service data platform capabilities and best practices to maximize value for the business.

As a Data Architect, you will focus on the big picture of an organization’s data strategy. You will work closely with other architects, engineering, product, analytics, data science, and DevOps leaders to align the data architecture with the overall business goals and objectives.

Your primary responsibility is to develop a cohesive data architecture that supports the organization’s long-term vision. You design efficient data storage structures, data models, standards, and optimize data retrieval for reporting, analytics, and AI purposes.

You Will

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including product management, engineering, analytics, and key business representatives to align the architecture, vision and roadmap with stakeholder needs
  • Establish guidelines, controls, and processes to make data available for developing scalable data-driven solutions for Analytics and AI
  • Create and set best practices for data ingestion, integration, and access patterns to support both real-time and batch-based consumer data needs

You Have

  • Proficiency in a variety of technologies such as: SQL, Bash, Python, Java, Presto, Spark, AWS, data streaming like Kafka, RabbitMQ, data stacks like Airflow, Databricks, dbt, and data stores like Cassandra, Aurora, ZooKeeper
  • Experience with data security (including PHI and PII), as well as data privacy regulations (CCPA and GDPR)
