Overview

Arkadium is seeking an exceptional and experienced Staff Full-Stack Engineer to join our Tech Services team.

While this role is remote, candidates must be available to work standard hours from 09:00 to 18:00 in the Western European Time (WET) zone - (Portugal time zone), where most of the Engineering and Product teams are based.

For candidates not residing in Portugal, you will be onboarded as a full-time contractor through our international payroll provider. 

You will:

  • Lead end-to-end development of scalable and high-performance full-stack applications 
  • Architect and design comprehensive and robust full-stack solutions, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical requirements 
  • Integrate back-end solutions with front-end web applications and games 
  • Design, develop, and maintain server-side applications and APIs for live games 
  • Support the needs of internal game teams to scale up their game development, including the creation of new tools 
  • Design and optimize database schemas, ensuring data consistency, integrity, and security 
  • Optimize application performance by identifying and addressing bottlenecks in both front-end and back-end components  
  • Implement and enforce security best practices for data protection and user authentication 
  • Lead code reviews and mentor other engineers to ensure high code quality and adherence to best practices 
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation and technical specifications, ensuring ease of understanding and knowledge transfer 
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and developments in web development and share knowledge with the team 
  • Participate in agile development processes and contribute to team goals and objectives 

We want you if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; 
  • 7+ year experience as a back-end engineer or full-stack engineer 
  • 5+ years working with server-side runtime environments (ex: Node.js) 
  • 3+ years working with different Javascript/Typescript libraries/frameworks for both frontend (ex: React, Angular, Vue.js, Svelte) and backend (ex: Express.js, NestJS, Next.js) 
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS 
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing RESTful APIs  
  • Solid understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems  
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects from start to finish  
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor other engineers 
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills  
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Nice to have:  

  • Experience working with Unity or other game engines 
  • Experience working with a game back-end-as-a-service such as Nakama, Firebase, or PlayFab  
  • Previous working experience on an online game serving thousands of users 
  • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) 
  • Experience developing server code in Golang 
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes) 
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure or AWS)

Overview 

Arkadium is seeking an exceptional and experienced Engineering Manager, Core Tech to join our Tech Services team.

  • Serve as the Technical Product Owner of the core technology team, providing leadership over the planning, execution, and success of complex technical projects in an innovative and fast-paced environment. 
  • Architect and design comprehensive and robust full-stack solutions that interface with all aspects of the business. 
  • Manage a team of software engineers, which includes leading the hiring process, onboarding, technical training, task planning, code reviews, and career development coaching. 
  • Advance the capabilities of the engineering team by researching and integrating innovative tools such as automation, Generative AI, and other industry-leading technologies. 
  • Organize the software development life cycle from code to release and optimize processes to effectively deliver high-impact products. 
  • Work collaboratively with Product Owners and Project Managers to provide business analysis, requirements gathering, resource planning, and milestone estimations on new roadmap development. 
  • Collaborate with other development managers, infrastructure, and data teams to unify technical strategy across the company. 
  • Implement and enforce security best practices for data protection and user authentication.  

We want you if you have:

  • 6+ years of experience building scalable, consumer-facing web products. 
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical leadership or management role. 
  • Strong knowledge of programming fundamentals, software engineering, web server architecture, and full-stack development. 
  • Solid knowledge of gaming technologies including online multiplayer, Live Ops systems, and game platforms. 
  • Solid understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems. 
  • Strong knowledge of data protection laws and practices (CCPA and GDPR). 
  • Experience with integrating third party libraries relating to marketing, analytics, ads, and community features. 
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.  
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in English. 

Nice to have:  

  • Solid knowledge of the web including security, payment systems, ad platforms/networks, and browser requirements 
  • Proficiency in modern front-end frameworks (React, Next, Svelte) and server-side frameworks (Node, Nest).  
  • Experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases.  
  • Experience with media technologies (e.g., video streaming). 
  • Experience in delivering software, leveraging cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure. 
  • Involvement with tech communities.

Overview 
Arkadium is hiring a Senior Product Designer to create exceptional user experiences for our digital products. This role is crucial to our Product Department, which is involved in all stages of product development. We are looking for a skilled designer who is passionate about innovative and user-centered designs. This role is open to candidates based in Portugal and will be 100% remote with in-person events optional.

For those in Portugal, business hours are 9-18 WEST (UTC+1).

Responsibilities 

  • Conduct thorough design research, user research, and user testing to inform and validate design decisions, placing the user at the center of the design process. 
  • Partner with Product and Engineering teams to seamlessly integrate user flows, fostering a holistic approach to product development.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, and Customer Support to align design with overall business strategies. 
  • Iterate on designs based on stakeholder feedback and user testing, continuously improving the user experience. Provide and receive valuable input across teams.
  • Oversee and deliver on all stages of the design process, from information architecture and user journey conceptualization to visual design prototyping and final hand-off to engineering, ensuring high-quality and consistent outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain robust design systems that promote consistency, efficiency, and scalability across all projects.
  • Leverage data and user feedback to iterate and improve designs continuously.
  • Establish a feedback culture that encourages open and constructive dialogue. 
  • 5+ years of professional experience in product design, with a strong portfolio showcasing work across web and mobile applications. E-commerce experience is a plus.
  • Deep understanding of product design principles and the ability to create designs that align business goals with user needs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically about design challenges and develop innovative solutions. 
  • Proficiency in interface animations to create engaging and intuitive user experiences.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
