About This Role

The Senior Manager, Tax and Treasury is a key management role within the Finance team, responsible for managing all aspects of tax compliance, strategy, and planning, as well as overseeing the company's treasury functions. This position will ensure that the company remains compliant with all tax laws (domestic and international), while also optimizing cash flow, managing liquidity, and mitigating financial risk. The Senior Manager will oversee interactions with external tax professionals and auditors to ensure tax-related audit procedures are completed in a timely & efficient manner, and coordinate with outside service providers on international tax compliance. They will work closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to drive financial strategy and business operations in a complex global regulatory environment.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Management:

  • Tax Compliance & Reporting: Coordinate and manage the preparation of federal, state, and international tax filings for the organization, ensuring timely and accurate tax returns and documentation. A combination of in-house and outsourced activities.
  • Tax Planning & Strategy: Develop and execute global tax strategies that optimize the company’s tax position including expansion into new jurisdictions, with a focus on minimizing liabilities and ensuring compliance with US and foreign tax law. Responsibilities also include support for M&A activities relating to taxation.
  • Transfer Pricing: Lead transfer pricing initiatives and projects in the context of the company's growing business, and develop methodologies and policies to integrate transfer pricing tax requirements to guide the business in managing risk.
  • Tax Credits: Coordinate and manage R&D credit study (internally and externally driven) to qualify for R&D tax credit.
  • Indirect Transactional Taxes: Lead the preparation and filing of various indirect taxes, including sales & use, VAT, GST, property, franchise, business, and other relevant taxes.
  • Tax Provisioning: Lead the preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions in accordance with US GAAP ASC 740 (or relevant accounting standards), ensuring accurate reporting for SEC-filed financial statements.
  • Financial Reporting: Coordinate and manage the preparation of quarterly and annual income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740 (or relevant accounting standards), ensuring accurate reporting for SEC filed financial statements.
  • Audit and Internal Control Support: Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to manage tax audits and disputes, providing necessary documentation and support to resolve issues efficiently. Establish and maintain internal controls over financial reporting (i.e., SOX 404) to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Tax Risk Management: Identify potential tax risks and opportunities for the business, ensuring that proper controls are in place and providing recommendations for risk mitigation.

Treasury Management:

  • Cash Flow & Liquidity Management: Oversee day-to-day treasury operations, including managing company liquidity and bank relationships to optimize working capital. Assist and support in cash reporting and forecasting activities.
  • Debt & Financing: Manage the company’s debt structure, including planning, issuing, and servicing debt. Assist with the analysis and execution of capital raising strategies, including debt and equity transactions.
  • Cash Management & Banking Relationships: Maintain and optimize relationships with banking partners, including negotiating fees, services, and managing cash balances to ensure effective cash utilization.
  • Investments: Oversee the company’s investment strategies, including cash reserves and short-term and longer-term investments. Review quality of investments and provide routine reporting to senior leadership.
  • Treasury Operations & Reporting: Ensure the accuracy of treasury reports and metrics, tracking all financial transactions related to treasury operations, debt, and investments.

Cross-functional Collaboration & Leadership:

  • Business Partnership: Work closely with senior management, FP&A, accounting, legal, and business units to align tax and treasury activities with the company’s financial strategy and operational needs.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of changes in tax and financial regulations, ensuring company policies and practices are in compliance with all federal, state, and international laws.
  • Leadership & Development: Manage and mentor a team of tax and treasury professionals, providing guidance and fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field. CPA, CMA, CFA, or advanced degree (e.g., Master’s in Taxation or Finance) preferred.
  • 8 to 10 years (10 to 12 years is preferred) experience in tax, with a combination of public and private. If experience in private, with at least 3 to 5 years in a management role at a public company or similar-sized organization.
  • Strong technical knowledge and practical experience with U.S. and international tax laws, financial regulations, and treasury management practices for a multinational corporation.
  • Experience with tax compliance and reporting for public companies, including tax provisions (ASC 740), SEC filings, and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Proven track record of managing cash flow, liquidity, debt, and risk management in a complex corporate environment.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with senior executives, external advisors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Sound judgment and ability to provide recommendations regarding policy and strategy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and experience with tax and treasury management software.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with multinational tax strategies, transfer pricing, and global tax compliance.
  • Practical experience with international tax computations such as GILTI, Subpart F, etc.
  • Experience in treasury systems, cash forecasting tools, enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
  • Knowledge of debt financing, capital markets, and investor relations for publicly traded companies.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager / Tax Manager, reporting to a Tax Director, to prepare the global tax provision and assist in the management of our US income tax compliance.

The preparation of the global tax provision will include developing and implementing global tax accounting workpapers and processes in order to efficiently prepare the interim and annual global tax provision.  The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and project management skills, the ability to work well with various business partners and functions and be highly organized with the ability to pay close attention to detail.  This role will also assist with US income tax compliance including designing and implementing tax efficient workpapers, managing third party service providers, and ensuring we are filing in all relevant jurisdictions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of the quarterly and annual tax provision under ASC 740 including financial statement disclosures
  • Manage and oversee various aspects of corporate income tax compliance prepared by a third-party provider
  • Prepare technical tax research and compliance memos and clearly communicate technical concepts to various users
  • Develop, implement and maintain tax accounting controls and SOX 404 documentation
  • Support process improvement initiatives to increase overall efficiency of the tax accounting process
  • Research various income tax accounting matters and determine impact of new accounting standards and tax legislation on the tax provision calculation
  • Support tax audits as necessary
  • Assist with the day-to-day tax operations and the compliance obligations of our growing business
  • Partner with business leaders, tax, finance, treasury, legal, and external advisers on various business initiatives and tax planning

 Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • 8 yrs+ general tax experience with significant experience with the preparation of a global tax provision
  • Strong technical knowledge and practical experience dealing with U.S. corporate income tax issues for a multinational corporation
  • Strong understanding of ASC 740 Accounting for Income Taxes
  • Preferred but not required – practical experience with international tax computations such as GILTI, Subpart, FTC, etc
  • Preferred but not required – familiarity with transfer pricing concepts
  • CPA License and/or Masters in Taxation
  • Expert excel skills and some experience with provision or compliance software
  • Detail oriented with ability to be flexible, learn new things, multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Sound judgment and ability to provide recommendations regarding policy and strategy
  • Strong accounting, analytical, and communication skills

Goals for the Tax Manager/Tax Senior Manager Position:

  • To further develop income tax preparation and tax review skills.
  • To build a relationship with the client that is based on our trust and expertise.

  • To learn of changes in our client’s situations before they happen so that we can proactively change their tax planning when needed.
  • To timely deliver all client facing products.

Throughout the year:

  • Answering questions from the client in relation to their tax plans.
  • Seek out and review potential new tax strategies for our clients to implement in their practice.
  • Setup processes to remind clients of important deadlines that may be client specific.
  • Train and assist tax services in developing their income tax skills.
  • Conduct tax interviews when onboarding new clients.

During Tax Season:

  • Assign clients to tax services for completion.

      We're looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented and proactive Employment Tax Manager to support the Tax team at Monzo, and our wider Finance team.

      You’ll be joining our Tax Team and will be reporting into our Employment Tax Senior Manager. 

      You’ll be working across Employment Tax, Global Mobility and Reward matters, in the UK, US and Europe. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage a key area of our tax strategy and work closely with diverse teams across the business. 

      ???? You’ll play a key role by…

      • Assisting the business with employment tax advice on an adhoc basis. For example, you’ll advise on: (i) the operation of PAYE and NIC on payments, expenses and benefits provided to employees, (ii) the tax treatment of reward packages (including equity incentives), and (iii) tax issues related to global mobility.
      • Managing our employment tax reporting obligations, including our ERS reporting, STBV reporting, PAYE Settlement Agreement and Form P11D. 
      • Owning our employment tax processes to ensure we’re fully compliant with our obligations, including IR35 and SAO. 
      • Reviewing and improving internal processes and systems to ensure our tax obligations are met, as well as owning the design and implementation of new processes required by Monzo due to recent growth.
      • Staying current with tax laws, regulations, and case law affecting employment tax, global mobility and reward.
      • Collaborating with internal stakeholders, including the People team and Finance, to support business initiatives from a tax perspective.

      The Tax Manager will play a critical role in supporting the company’s global tax compliance and strategy, ensuring the business operates efficiently across borders while aligning with local and international tax regulations.

      What you will do:

      • Global Tax Compliance: Oversee and manage all global tax filings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. This includes handling cross-border activities, global transfer pricing, and complex business transactions. Collaborate with external tax advisors and legal counsel as needed.
      • Business Partnership & Strategy: Work closely with finance leadership and business units to provide tax guidance and support on various projects. Lead ad-hoc analyses and special initiatives to align tax strategies with business goals.
      • Process Documentation & Compliance: Maintain and update documentation for tax compliance processes, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, company policies, and internal controls. Conduct periodic reviews to ensure compliance.
      • Business Tools: Serve as a key contributor in the selection and implementation of tax management tools. Oversee deployment, system transition, and team training to ensure seamless integration.
      • Stay abreast of developments in tools, techniques and industry standards/best practice and identify opportunities for tax optimization and operational efficiencies
      • Industry Knowledge & Optimization: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices. Identify opportunities for tax optimization and operational efficiency within the organization.

      We want you to succeed so you will need:

      • Chartered Professional Accountant designation, or a combination of equivalent certification and significant experience in tax compliance and strategy
      • 3+ years of Canadian and US tax compliance experience, with responsibilities extending beyond corporate tax return preparation
      • Familiarity with international compliance beyond North America

      The Senior Tax ManagerRole

       

      An expanding tax department presents an opportunity for a Tax Manager. Reporting to the Senior Director of Tax, Tax Manager will be jointly responsible as an individual contributor for leading the company’s tax accounting and compliance initiatives.       Here’s how you’ll be making an impact:

       

      • Assume ownership of corporate tax returns prepared by external advisors including compliance with tax filing deadlines and tax calendar
      • Assume ownership of annual and quarterly worldwide GAAP provision calculations, data gathering, reporting and disclosures prepared in-house and by external advisors
      • Assist Senior Director of Tax and VP of Tax in tax planning initiatives and special projects
      • Provide analysis of specific tax impacts of certain company transactions
      • Liaise with external auditors to facilitate orderly review of quarterly and annual tax provision calculations and disclosures
      • Coordinate and support IRS and state audit-responses
      • Maintain technical proficiency by keeping informed of tax-technical developments and industry trends
      • Proactively identify, recommend, and implement process and tax systems improvements
      • Working knowledge of OneSource tax provision software preferred
      • Assist in maintaining transfer pricing policy and documentation including coordinating with external advisor
      • Support the local Finance Business Partner and the accounting team in the Shared Services Center during audit procedures for local country GAAP financials
      • Taking responsibility and ownership of the relationship at appropriate levels in the organization
      • Supervise tax senior
      • Manage relationships with external advisors

      The Role

      Kasais a fast-growing tech-enabled brand and operator of hotel, multifamily, and single-family hospitality accommodations for guests in dozens of markets nationwide. Kasa manages properties on behalf of institutional and local property owners across various price and luxury tiers. 

      In this pivotal role, you will be the primary individual responsible for Kasa’s tax function across occupancy tax, sales tax and corporate income tax, among others. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate sales and occupancy tax collections from guests, timely filings with multiple jurisdictions across the United States, coordination of external tax advisors, and accurate payment of any and all taxes across Kasa’s properties and corporate entities. Your mission as the Tax Manager is to own all aspects of tax collection, reporting, filing, and recordkeeping to continue Kasa’s success in delivering market-leading financial reporting to our hotel and multifamily partners while improving Kasa’s tech-driven approach to scalable accounting solutions for the hospitality industry.

      Your Impact as the Tax Manager

      • Ensure Accurate Tax Calculations: You will “own” the tax calculation, filing and remittance functions at Kasa, with primary accountability for our occupancy tax collections, corporate income tax filing and coordination with local tax municipalities regularly. You will have a direct impact on ensuring we remain best-in-class for this critical function.
      • Tax Reconciliation Scalability & Accuracy:Given Kasa’s highly centralized accounting function, it’s critical to continually improve our tax reconciliation and recognition processes through automation. 
      • Systems Improvement:Work with the tech team and other finance leaders to improve current systems or processes to create a best-in-class tax accounting function. 
      • Tax Filing Accuracy:This role requires frequent interaction with external tax authorities that will require multiple follow-ups, varying timelines and periodic filings that must meet strict deadlines.
      • Tax and Audit Improvements:Ensure accurate transient occupancy tax settings and reporting (working closely with other members of the finance, regulatory and distributions team), while also ensuring that our corporate tax practices are consistent with audit requirements from Kasa’s corporate auditor. 

      Required Attributes

      • Requirement: Minimum three years of tax filing and reporting experience across occupancy tax, sales tax and corporate / real estate taxes for the hospitality and/or real estate industry
      • Requirement:Strong attention to detail and multitasking abilities, as this role requires frequent conversations with external third parties across multiple jurisdictions with varying project timelines.
      • Nice to have:Hospitality tax or accounting experience
