Job Description

The Tax Manager is responsible for supervising the preparation of US consolidated federal and consolidated, combined, and separate state income tax returns. They will also oversee the computation of interim and year-end income tax provisions, as well as review and manage the tax returns prepared by the Tax team. Additionally, the Tax Manager will lead and mentor a team of Tax professionals.

Tax Manager is based in our Rutherford, NJ office and offers a Hybrid work schedule

  • Manages tax planning, reporting, and compliance functions.
  • Manages tax accounting staff, conducts selection interviews, coaches, trains, conducts performance evaluation, and motivates employees.
  • Oversees the preparation of all tax filings and reporting.
  • Evaluates the tax implications of company activities and develops strategies to minimize the tax obligations.
  • Provides input into developing the country budget.
  • Assists the Tax Director in all external federal, state and local income tax audits.
  • Analyzes and prepares all supporting documentation to any Tax related information document requests.
  • Assists the Tax Director in federal/state tax credit generation projects, Tax planning, and other ad hoc projects.
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Supervises employees in performance of their day-to-day duties
  • Has full responsibility for employees’ actions

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance. (Required)
  • Minimum 5+ years of direct transferable experience in corporate Tax (Required)
  • 1-3 years supervisory experience (Required)
  • Prior international experience or working in a multicultural environment managing international projects (Required)
  • Master’s Degree in Taxation preferred in combination with experience outlined above (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (Required)

The Senior Tax ManagerRole

 

An expanding tax department presents an opportunity for a Tax Manager. Reporting to the Senior Director of Tax, Tax Manager will be jointly responsible as an individual contributor for leading the company’s tax accounting and compliance initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on individual to make a long-term impact within the organization.

 

Here’s how you’ll be making an impact:

 

  • Assume ownership of corporate tax returns prepared by external advisors including compliance with tax filing deadlines and tax calendar
  • Assume ownership of annual and quarterly worldwide GAAP provision calculations, data gathering, reporting and disclosures prepared in-house and by external advisors
  • Assist Senior Director of Tax and VP of Tax in tax planning initiatives and special projects
  • Provide analysis of specific tax impacts of certain company transactions
  • Liaise with external auditors to facilitate orderly review of quarterly and annual tax provision calculations and disclosures
  • Coordinate and support IRS and state audit-responses
  • Maintain technical proficiency by keeping informed of tax-technical developments and industry trends
  • Proactively identify, recommend, and implement process and tax systems improvements
  • Working knowledge of OneSource tax provision software preferred
  • Assist in maintaining transfer pricing policy and documentation including coordinating with external advisor
  • Support the local Finance Business Partner and the accounting team in the Shared Services Center during audit procedures for local country GAAP financials
  • Taking responsibility and ownership of the relationship at appropriate levels in the organization
  • Supervise tax senior
  • Manage relationships with external advisors

  • Assist with employment tax issues across the group including annual compliance (PSA, P11Ds etc), establishing local country payrolls for overseas employees and tax implications for internationally mobile employees.
  • Support with tax reporting such as FATCA and CRS returns, BBSI returns and CT61 returns.
  • Liaison between the finance and tax/payroll teams, as required across the taxes
  • You may also be involved and assist where required in a wide range of strategic tax advisory projects such as international expansion, tax structuring and IPO planning.
  • You may also support the group’s indirect tax compliance both in the UK and internationally.
  • Your role will likely include assisting with internal ad hoc tax advice across the business including preparation of internal memos and training material.




  • A strong tax and finance background, gained in practice and/or industry.
  • Experience of international taxes would be an advantage.
  • Indirect tax and employment tax experience is desirable, but not essential.
  • Enthusiasm and a drive to expand your knowledge in new areas is as important as experience.
  • Professional Qualification desirable but not essential: ACA, ACCA, CTA or part qualified, with accounting knowledge.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare quarterly corporate income tax provisions for India and APAC (Asia Pacific) subsidiary companies and perform profitability analytics.
  • Assist in the preparation/review and filing of corporate income tax returns for the Indian and APAC subsidiaries, ensuring timely payment of tax liabilities, and booking accounting journals for same. Assist in audit enquiries on such filings.

  • Present to the wider accounting team on tax topics necessary for their role, or for wider understanding of how the Arista group tax structure works etc.
  • Other associated compliance duties.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. Chartered Accountant tax qualification. 
  • 5+ years of relevant tax experience. Industry experience (US multinational Technology companies) an advantage.
  • Adaptable to changing requirements and with a focus on continuous process improvement for what is a dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and advanced excel skills. Experience of working with large data set, utilizing vlookup, index/match and Pivot Table to analyse data, identify exceptions etc. is an advantage.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (experience of NetSuite would be an advantage but is not essential).
  • Excellent attention to detail and experience contributing to internal controls and process enhancements.

The Role

  • Tax Reconciliation Scalability & Accuracy:Given Kasa’s highly centralized accounting function, it’s critical to continually improve our tax reconciliation and recognition processes through automation. 
  • Systems Improvement:Work with the tech team and other finance leaders to improve current systems or processes to create a best-in-class tax accounting function. 
  • Tax Filing Accuracy:This role requires frequent interaction with external tax authorities that will require multiple follow-ups, varying timelines and periodic filings that must meet strict deadlines.
  • Tax and Audit Improvements:Ensure accurate transient occupancy tax settings and reporting (working closely with other members of the finance, regulatory and distributions team), while also ensuring that our corporate tax practices are consistent with audit requirements from Kasa’s corporate auditor.

  • Requirement: Minimum three years of tax filing and reporting experience across occupancy tax, sales tax and corporate / real estate taxes for the hospitality and/or real estate industry

      The main duties and goals for the tax manager/senior manager are:

      Goals for the Tax Manager/Tax Senior Manager Position:

      • To further develop income tax preparation and tax review skills.
      • To build a relationship with the client that is based on our trust and expertise.
      • To continue to learn new ways in which we can help clients better prepare for their tax situation.
      • To learn of changes in our client’s situations before they happen so that we can proactively change their tax planning when needed.
      • To timely deliver all client facing products.

      Throughout the year:

      • Answering questions from the client in relation to their tax plans.
      • Seek out and review potential new tax strategies for our clients to implement in their practice.
      • Setup processes to remind clients of important deadlines that may be client specific.
      • Train and assist tax services in developing their income tax skills.
      • Conduct tax interviews when onboarding new clients.

      During Tax Season:

      • Assign clients to tax services for completion.
      • Send tax organizers to clients and make sure tax services have been introduced to the client to conduct a tax organizer session.
      • Assist tax services in understanding documents needed for building tax files.
      • Review tax returns prepared by tax services including preparing review notes and training tax services.
      • Send tax returns to clients for review and final signature.
      • Submit signed returns for processing.
      • (If needed) Conduct a meeting with the client going over the tax return results. This can be done over a recorded video as well.

      Post Tax Season:

      • Review client’s tax plans that were updated by tax services.
      • Preparing/reviewing extended individual tax returns.
      • Preparing/reviewing extended business tax returns.

      Mid-Year, 3rd Quarter, and 4th Quarter:

      • Review projection for client and send to the client. (See example of projection)
      • Ask client for any updates to their tax situation.

      How much does this position pay (range)

      $80,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on experience

      What You’ll Do

      As a member of our team, you will provide tax services to our clients and manage our senior associate and associate level tax team members. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

      • The preparation and review of corporate, partnership, and individual tax returns with a strong focus on individual tax for founders and high net worth individuals
      • Managing, developing, and mentoring members of the tax team
      • Identifying and developing solutions for complex tax issues
      • Answering client inquiries and working with management to triage and problem solve tax issues or questions

      Who You Are
