Job Description

The Resource Development division raises funding from private donors, foundations, corporations, non-US governments and other Oxfam Affiliates. The intern will co-lead our networking project, specifically on LinkedIn, and operate the Sales Navigator module with direction from the Senior Prospect Research Officer and others. The intern will also advise on marketing strategies and tactics to identify new prospects for fundraising.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the Individual Giving and Engagement Team’s (IGET) efforts to leverage LinkedIn Sales Navigator to identify and research potential new donor prospects by gathering and analyzing data on potential donors, including their giving history, interests, and connections to Oxfam's mission.
  • Familiarize with Sales Navigator and manage the tool to its full capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the intern of the Institutional Funding and Partnerships Team (IFP) to identify prospective private donors and key people within funding institutions for outreach.
  • Create detailed profiles for new donor prospects, highlighting key information and potential engagement strategies under the direction of the Senior Prospect Research Officer.
  • Work closely with IGET and IFP teams to align research efforts with organizational goals and strategies.

  • Research Reports: Generate regular reports summarizing research findings and providing strategic recommendations for donor engagement.

      Background:

      The "Together Against Poverty” 2 (TAP 2) grant is the fourth iteration of a long-standing partnership between Oxfam and a major US Foundation. This four-year project supports Oxfam's global advocacy efforts along two main strands of work: 1) increasing the quantity and improving the quality of foreign aid from key governments; and 2) promoting and resourcing agricultural development as a core pillar of economic growth in Africa.

      Objective:

      Oxfam America is seeking an intern to support the implementation of Oxfam’s gender policy and advocacy work implemented under the TAP 2 project, with a particular focus on providing timely programmatic, administrative, and logistical support. This includes providing operational and strategic support to the Kenya-based TAP2 Senior Gender Advisor and the US-based TAP2 Senior Project Officer in the implementation of a number of different ongoing advocacy initiatives. This role requires collaboration and coordination with a diverse set of key stakeholders, including internal Oxfam staff and external partners.

      The Intern will have the opportunity to gain practical skills and get an inside understanding of policy and advocacy work within an international development agency. The internship offers a friendly and open work environment of supportive staff from around the world with whom to share knowledge, career advice, and workplace mentoring.

      Responsibilities:

      • Contribute to project planning, decision-making processes, reporting, and documentation for various advocacy initiatives, including but not limited to Oxfam’s influencing efforts on Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP) and Feminist Foreign Policy (FFP).
      • Track implementation of work plans for identified knowledge products and policy engagements, ensuring weekly and monthly deliverables and targets are met and tasks remain on track.

        PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

        The Senior Financial Analyst will manage and provide oversight of processes and provide financial support to specific Functional and Thematic Teams, including collaborating with IFP on restricted fund procurement and management. Areas of support will include the development and/or review of donor proposal plans budgets and related amendments, donor grant financial management, and donor reporting.

         

        PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

        1.Oversee financial processes and results and ensure compliance with Oxfam policies and donor obligations regarding financial management of program teams with significant restricted funding in an organizational matrix (estimated 75% time)
        •Partner closely with directors and business managers with budget authority, training and coaching them to prepare annual budgets and their amendments, operating plans, track and report variances to budgeted expenditures and develop actions to correct variances and address root causes.
        •Develop and maintain current documentation of applicable financial, planning, budgeting, and forecasting systems, procedures, and processes for restricted funds in partnership with FP&A.

        •Develop and deliver trainings on donor requirements and applicable compliance procedures for project staff and partners on the use of restricted funds in partnership with Finance.
        •Coach managers to ensure that budget changes (BCFs) are complete, accurate, and conform with OUS policies and procedures and donor restrictions, including donor-approved budgets.
        •Prepare budgets for upload into UBW (financial system) with valid financial coding.
        •Run reports, queries and navigate the various functional screens in UBW Projects, including project approval and budget baselining. Function as a super user of UBW and reporting (BI) tools.
        •Partner with directors in the preparation of operational dashboard submissions and review in quarterly discussions, and with either the VP, Global Programs or VP, Policy & Advocacy, as requested.

        •Monitor and work with directors, managers, and staff to ensure accurate and timely contracting, invoice processing, grants payments, budget reconciliation, and allocation of personnel costs (timesheets).
        •Review expenses for assigned projects, working with the Finance department to resolve issues and ensure financial consistency, accuracy, and integrity.
        •Advise the responsible managers on the operational-related aspects of partner grant making and related administration in collaboration with the Global Engagement and Partnership (GEP) team.
        •Coordinate and track external fundraising, legal reporting, financial audits, and donor reporting initiatives.
        •Review and at times prepare the financial aspect of funding reports for accuracy and consistency with narrative ensuring that we are meeting or exceeding Oxfam standards as well as donors’ requirements and timelines.

        •Ensure compliance with restrictions related to donor intent, lobbying support, federal and state reporting.
