About the Team: The Observability team plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth functioning and performance optimization of all our systems. We are a dynamic team of engineers dedicated to providing centralized Observability solutions to empower all teams within the company. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our team. As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining systems and tools to ensure the reliability, performance, and scalability of our infrastructure and applications.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will…

• Lead the design and implementation of observability solutions, including monitoring, logging, and tracing systems along with a wide range of core internal systems. Work with your team to develop far reaching modules that have scalability and availability at their core
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in deciding, developing integrations with other subsystems and best practices for both current and future infrastructure needs at a scale.
• Develop and maintain monitoring dashboards and alerts to provide actionable insights into the system health and performance.
• Automate the observability process to improve efficiency and scalability.
• Conduct in-depth performance analysis and troubleshooting to identify and resolve issues proactively, ensuring minimal impact on operations.
• Maintain an understanding of system functionality and architecture, with a strong focus on the operational aspects of the service (availability, performance, change management, emergency response, capacity planning, etc)
• Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in observability, and make recommendations for adoptions to enhance our systems.
• Provide product support to internal and external stakeholders
• Work in a team environment where your team owns and operates the services you build

What you’ll need to be successful…

• Have 5+ years of software development experience with time spent working on Cloud technologies (AWS, Google Compute, Azure) at large scale. AWS with Kubernetes is greatly preferred.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Golang, PHP, Ruby or similar.
• Comfortable navigating & troubleshooting unix/linux based operating systems.
• Strong understanding of monitoring and logging technologies, such as Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Fluentd, Collectd, Grafana, ELK Stack, or similar.
• Familiarity with Sumo Logic, New Relic, Dynatrace, Cloudwatch, Splunk, Nagios.
• Strong interest in building and operating distributed systems and/or service oriented architectures.
• Passion for Devops processes and tools (Jenkins), distributed configuration management systems (Ansible, Puppet) and maintaining infrastructure as code (Terraform, Cloudformation)
• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with ability to effectively interact with stakeholders across different teams and levels.

Extra credit if you…

• Certifications in relevant technologies (AWS, CKAD, CKA, etc)
• Have hands on experience with Docker, K8s or equivalent
• Have a mindset to automate repetitive tasks

What you’ll do:

• Contribute to the open-source data science platform “Nebari” (https://www.nebari.dev), deployed by our team as the CDAO JATIC T&E Platform.
• Translate IL5 ATO security acceptance criteria into actionable DevSecOps tasks.
• Support implementation of cybersecurity acceptance criteria to develop, deploy and operate our platform, frameworks, packages, and toolkits from a government-supported ecosystem.
• Harden configuration of cloud infrastructure such as firewalls, VPCs, IDS/IPS, monitoring, roles/permissions, etc, to ensure compliance with appropriate acceptance criteria.
• Design, implement, assess, and remediate open-source supply chain security measures such as dependency scans and SBOMs.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration tests of the entire software system to identify violations of acceptance criteria.
• Act swiftly and effectively to security incidents and potential breaches.
• Support investigations of system security hardening with updated POA&M and A&A documentation for AWS, Azure, and other government required Cloud Environments.
• Support security investigation and documentation for additional environments, as required.
• Provide our findings and enhancements as contributions to the open-source community.

What you’ll need to succeed:

• An active, current government-issued Secret security clearance or higher
• DoD IAT Level II Certification (or higher), such as Security+, CASP, CISSP, etc.
• 5 or more years of experience with hands-on experience designing and implementing DoD IL2+ systems.
• 5 or more years of experience configuring AWS Cloud services such as VPCs, S3, EC2, EKS, ECR.
• 5 or more years of experience working with Infrastructure-as-Code systems deploying cloud infrastructure.
• 5 or more years of experience working with Kubernetes.
• Experience integrating IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS offerings into government cloud environments. 
• Familiarity with incident response procedures and tools.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Your Role

As a Senior Systems Analyst, you'll play a critical role on our FinOps practice, wielding your expertise in cloud platforms and software usage to optimize spend and ensure efficient resource utilization. You'll work closely with Engineers, Product Managers and business leaders to translate cloud spend into actionable insights, informing product decisions and mitigating the need for additional resources.

In this role, you'll:

• Develop cost-reduction strategies. You’ll forecast future resource consumption and identify opportunities to optimize spending on cloud services like AWS EC2 and GCP MediaCDN.
• Build a chargeback model. By designing a data model to allocate cloud and software costs to internal services and customer contracts, you’ll help ensure transparency and accountability.
• Automate processes. You’ll streamline your work by automating month-end processes and keeping your forecasts continuously updated.
• Improve communication and collaboration. As a stakeholder partner, you’ll translate complex data into clear narratives, driving informed decision-making.

Position Description

Are you an expert AWS back-end developer with a passion for making a difference in the healthcare industry? If so, we want you to join our team at Indigo, where we're using technology to transform medical professional liability insurance. Our machine-learning driven underwriting process and modern technology streamline the insurance process and equip quality physicians and groups with the coverage they need. As a Backend Developer, you will own the various backend components of our system, which includes web backends, a machine learning platform, data pipelines, and more. You will help us leverage the AWS cloud platform with best practices to ensure that the system is highly available, secure, and scalable.  You will work with cross-functional teams including frontend developers, data engineers, and product managers to ensure the backend system meets business requirements and adheres to best practices.

Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code in the AWS environment using EC2 or Lambda.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve the backend services that power the Indigo platform.
• Work with frontend developers, data engineers, and product managers to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements.
• Implement security and data protection measures to ensure that the system is highly available and secure.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure the code is of high quality.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, product, and engineering to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements.
• Create and maintain infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Work closely with the CTO, Yotam Shacham, to identify and implement best practices for backend development, including testing, code reviews, and documentation.
• Keep up to date with emerging trends in backend development and contribute to improving our development processes.
• Mentor and guide junior back end developers to ensure high-quality code.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in backend development.
• Experience with AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB, or S3.
• Node.js or Python backend experience, ability to write high quality code in either.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design principles and experience designing and building RESTful APIs.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

We need a Staff Site Reliability Engineer who is enthusiastic about building reliable, scalable, and flexible systems to support our growing team, product, and user base. You'll work with other engineers to reliably release and maintain services, and help define and meet internal and customer-facing SLA's and SLO's.

What You’ll Do

• Manage and orchestrate Cloud Resource (AWS) configuration using Infrastructure As Code (Terraform) to empower engineering staff to embrace a DevOps culture of Self Service Ownership
• Develop and govern Observability (Datadog) best practices for tracking platform performance and health trends to meet customer SLAs and lead technical decisions with strong supporting evidence
• Create solutions that dynamically scale based on demand with enough flexibility to pivot for fast changing project requirements while maintaining a balance of good versus perfect
• Provide strong and consistent communication updates on technical progress or blockers to keep stakeholders informed while additionally creating appropriate documentation on technical design to spread knowledge and reduce information silos
• Participate and respond to 24/7 on-call critical alerts and follow documented incident investigation procedures to reestablish customer facing feature availability
• Maintain HIPAA, GDPR, SOC-2 compliance and general security through best practice implementation

Who You Are

• At least 8+ years of experience in software engineering with 4+ years experience in DevOps
• Cloud Provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) experience on managing resources through Infrastructure As Code (Terraform) 
• Container Orchestration (ECS or K8s) experience to confidently build, test, and release containerized applications for multiple environments and regions
• Knowledge of Observability best practices across common cloud resources (EC2, ECS, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, Eventbridge) with experience on rolling out enhancements across a distributed platform with scale in mind
• Experience with shell scripting for *nix systems
• Experience with Networking for web applications
• Effective at communicating ideas through writing and diagramming
• Comfortable working with a distributed development and ops team
• Familiarity with AWS: ECS and cloud hosting, Gitlab: CI/CD, Python: Django, Flask, aiohttp, Bash, Data: PostgreSQL, Redis, Monitoring: Datadog and Sentry, IaC: Terraform, Packer
