We’re building a different kind of IT company, one that meets our customers and our own team on their turf, on their terms. We’re growing fast right now and you can be part of it with all the opportunities to add value that come with that. Curious? Great! That’s what we like in a Softie!
Our Softies are a diverse and globally distributed team that are on a mission to change the future of data infrastructure with task-specific hardware and open source. We aim to do all the hard work so that our customers can adopt the best open source has to offer in a bulletproof and resilient way. Our team thinks differently, working as an integrated but globally dispersed team of experts in hardware manufacturing, firmware, software, infrastructure and everything in between.
We’re looking to recruit Linux systems engineers into our Product Engineering team, to drive new initiatives that accelerate our customer projects and bolster our product definition work. You’ll be working in a cross functional team alongside our software and platform engineering teams and our commercial teams.
Product Engineering works on quick-turnaround new technology projects to demonstrate advanced usage of our cloud appliances and make it easy for our partners, systems team, and our customers to deploy similar solutions. This can consist of first-time technology deployment/testing, operating production infrastructure, performance benchmarking and open-source software development. We aim to automate and document everything we do, to ensure it can be easily consumed by others, both internally and by our channel partners and customers. Examples of recent projects include containerisation, infrastructure as code, and observability.
Purpose
Product Marketing forms a pivotal role between engineering, sales and marketing - supporting not only the development of the optimal product strategy, but also the best go to market strategy, enabling the SoftIron Sales team and channel, helping to effectively target, develop and message marketing campaigns and develop content, delivering market analysis and insight to the organisation as a whole, as well as acting as a spokesperson for the business to the outside world.
Responsibilities
Human skills
Qualifications and Experience
Likely to have spent some time in Engineering and/or as an IT practitioner, this role requires a rare blend of broad domain expertise at a reasonable level of technical detail with the ability then distill this into macro trends and concepts able to communicate not only where we are at as a business, but where we are headed as an industry.
As comfortable in a room of engineers as a room of sales and marketing folks and able to “change gears” appropriately to serve those teams, success in this role requires forming strong, mutually respected relationships across almost all disciplines, and at all levels of this fast moving startup environment.
Successful candidates will be skilled written and verbal communicators. Though largely focussed on helping develop the SoftIron business via strategy, campaigns and assets, they should expect to be called upon occasionally to assist in the sales cycle, not only with new prospects, but in deepening and extending relationships with both customers and channel partners by sharing their market expertise..
Able to understand, distill and embrace the unique approach that SofIron brings to the IT Industry will be key. This isn’t just another start up with a “hot product”, it's a wholly different way of bringing IT to market.

Desirable
Benefits
We pay competitively in the market in which you want to be located, and provide an attractive benefits package including significant share options in our fast growing, mid-stage start-up.
Location
You tell us! This role gives you the freedom to live and work where you can be at your best. We operate globally and also have some pretty cool offices worldwide. Time travel (aka time zone optimisation) is one of our super powers and we use this to our best advantage in setting up teams and how we work. This role can be based remotely, in one of our offices, or hybrid.
Recruitment agencies
We work with like-minded companies across all of our business. We’re not into vendor lock-in of any type, we don’t do the hard sell and we treat time and attention as valuable resources. Recruitment agents, please don’t send us unsolicited resumes or CVs unless we’ve asked you to work with us on the role - it just shows us you’re not our type.

Product Manager for Inc 500 Solar/Marketing Company
- Elon Musk
Once a fringe thing hippies did, “going solar” is now going mainstream. It took over 30 years for the first 1 million solar installations to be completed. It only took another 3 years to install the second million. Over the next 2 years another 1 million homes will go solar and there are 90 million American households to go after that! Solar technology is cheaper, better and more reliable than ever. Unless your head is buried in a coal mine, it’s becoming abundantly clear that solar is the future.
With rapid growth, mainstream adoption, and a presidential mandate to hit a 100% clean-energy economy by 2050 comes massive investment and opportunity in the space. Installation companies are growing quickly, making them hungry for even more growth, and solar continues to accelerate even in a post-COVID world.
The last thing you want is the power going out during a quarantine, and it’s also a product that saves people money, bolsters family security, and can be sold over the phone. The technology is dialed, the installation process is clean, but it’s still a challenge to find customers. Since customers that convert into sales are the lifeblood of any company, sales leads are the raw tool that unleashes massive growth for solar installers.
Finding qualified customers: that’s what we do at SolarLeadFactory.
SolarLeadFactory has helped nearly 2 million homeowners looking to buy solar. We have helped hundreds of solar installers grow their businesses - and aim to help hundreds more.
Don't be fooled by our name: we're more than just a 'lead-gen company'. Our business is built on a proprietary software platform allowing us to deliver a best in class product and innovate constantly. We have in-house developers, digital marketing experts, and data scientists relentlessly driving the product forward.
Our mission: to unlock consumer demand for solar power.
You’re looking for a way to make a huge positive difference in the world & help the companies on the front lines of the solar revolution!
You want to be part of a small but driven team making a big impact on one of the most pressing issues of our time. You share some of our core values including “Work that Matters”, “Make Learning the Key Metric”, “Always be Testing Something,” and “Master your Craft”.
Most importantly, you love helping to build better user experiences and delivering value in a way that drives the mission of the company forward.
In order to be successful in this position you must be skilled, highly organized, efficient, proactive, analytical, tech savvy, and an excellent communicator.
Do you want to learn? To grow? To make a difference?
If you’re excited by driving rapid product innovation in a data-driven company, and in an environment with enough user traffic to test new ideas weekly, this role could be for you.
As product manager you will be responsible for the entire product development process: product discovery, planning, Scrum management, and live product testing.
'Product' means any user-facing value we create, whether for internal stakeholders or external customers. Examples of internal product could include anything from reporting views that drive business decisions to our proprietary lead-scoring & predictive analytics models. External-facing product examples include our user funnel and UX, from impression to installed solar panels.
Ultimately your role will be to both help organize and consistently drive our product vision through to completion, project manage our product pipeline, run product and customer discovery to glean qualitative insights, manage product testing experiments, mine the data along with our data team looking for insights, and so on--all directed at moving the needle on key company KPIs.
You will be supported by, and work with, our entire team.
We are shaking up our industry and working day in and day out to get solar on everyone’s roof. Come shape your future & the future of the world.
If you’re game to make a big difference and reap the rewards, come join us!
