DESCRIPTION:

The Accounting Manager is a player/coach role responsible for managing a small team of staff accountants and contributing to accounting activities that support the financial strength of our fast-paced and growing organization.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assist the Controller with monthly financial close by preparing account reconciliations, submitting journal entries, and working with other cost centers to obtain relevant information.
  • Provide career coaching, guidance, and training support for the Senior/Staff Accountant(s) and delegate responsibilities.
  • Prepare monthly expense analyses and explain trends/variances.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations with supporting schedules.
  • Lead with implementation and enhancement of revenue system.
  • Maintain sub-ledgers and other supporting schedules.
  • Assist in implementing accounting policies and procedures.
  • Support Leadership with various ad-hoc analyses and management reporting.
  • Design monthly financial close procedures in order to obtain more accurate and timely results.
  • Interface with external auditors, as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance
  • 4+ years of accounting-related experience
  • 3+ years working with Excel including advanced features (Pivot Tables, V-Look ups, SumIfs etc.)
  • 1+ year of managerial experience or having sole ownership over an accounting functional area. 
  • Experience with NetSuite, Intact, SAP One or any other cloud-based ERP.
  • Experience with Expensify, Bill.com or similar products .

Preferred Qualifications

  • Netsuite experience is highly preferred.
  • Strong ability to self-motivate and manage conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly detail oriented, and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external customers to maximize performance, creativity, and problem solving
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; strong business writing and communication abilities, including the ability to effectively document the procedures performed to complete an assignment, the results found, and conclusion reached
  • Experience with ADP, Paychex, Sequoia or any other payroll software 
  • Industry experience in SaaS environment 
  • East and Central Time Zones

The role:

  • The Accounting Manager will be responsible for delivering accurate, reliable, and timely monthly financial reporting.

  • Reconciliation of the balance sheet accounts of entities that fall within scope.

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant Finance related field or equivalent experience.

Overview 

Electric’s Finance Team is seeking a Manager of Accounting to oversee the accounting team and ensure the accuracy and transparency in our financial reporting. Reporting to the Controller, this role will focus on overseeing the company's accounting operations, developing internal control guidelines, and providing financial analysis and insights to inform strategic decision-making.

About the Role:

  • Lead initiatives to streamline workflows, eliminate manual tasks, and improve controls in the revenue recognition process

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
  • 6+ years of experience in a revenue accounting role, with 2+ years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Large pre-ipo or public company experience is a plus
  • Background in public accounting (Big 4 experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of SOX requirements
  • Thorough understanding of ASC 606 and ASC 340
  • Experience in the technology or SaaS industry is a plus
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and collaborating effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex contracts and financial data

  • Acts as a liaison between external experts, audit team and internal business leaders relating to significant business transactions. Drive the analysis and accounting processes to accurately record significant business transactions.
  • Address technical accounting matters relating to SEC filings, including but not limited to conducting peer research via Intelligize.
  • Drive resolution to complex accounting issues.  
  • Develop staff by providing ongoing trainings and maintaining strong employee relationships.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements; suggest and implement improvements that would benefit the team.
  • Assist in completing special projects and analyses on an ad-hoc basis.

You Have:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including minimum of 5 years in a Big 4 public accounting firm required
  • CPA required
  • Direct experience with the SEC registrants and technical accounting relating to public company operations required
  • Direct experience with PCAOB standards and SOX requirements required
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, and remote environment
  • Proven technical understanding of financial accounting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP), and understanding of and ability to research and apply guidance
  • Strong communication skills required. Able to effectively communicate in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong project management skills required
  • Top level critical thinking and analytical skills

The Finance team is a business partner supporting the development and execution of the Company’s strategy and is also responsible for the analysis and reporting of the financial results of Clover Health and overall business activities. The team coordinates and directs all financial transactions in the accounting system as well as supports company wide goals and initiatives relative to the financial needs of all departments. The Controllership group is responsible for accurate financial reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

We're seeking a dynamic Accounting Manager to lead our Opex team for General Ledger reporting and month-end close processes. In this pivotal role, you will oversee monthly journal entries, reconciliations, stock compensation, accruals and SG&A, and financial package preparation while driving efficiency and accuracy. You'll collaborate with executive management, external auditors, and our SEC reporting team to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting and drive continuous process improvements. This high visibility position requires a strategic thinker who can effectively communicate complex financial insights to leadership, manage diverse accounting projects, and provide guidance and support to the team.

 

Location: East Coast, preferably New York or New Jersey

 

As a Accounting Manager Operating Expenses, you will:

  • Act as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert on complex Opex accounting issues and financial reporting matters, providing guidance to leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Oversee key accounting functions, which will include managing and reviewing journal entries and reconciliations for leases, fixed assets, accrued expenses, payroll, capitalized software, stock compensation and other accounting areas. 
  • Supervise general ledger functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Assess and improve current accounting practices and procedures, and make recommendations for process improvements.
  • Develop and mentor staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships.
  • Create and implement a process for monthly fluctuation analysis of critical and material accounts.
  • Provide support for accounting transactions for monthly or quarterly deliverables.
  • Support audit activities by assisting with quarterly and year-end financial audits as well as the annual financial/control audit.

Success in this role looks like:

  • Demonstrated strong expertise in operational expense (Opex) accounting principles and accurate GL reporting. 
  • Effectively communicating financial insights and recommendations to the accounting team, leadership, and external auditors.
  • Providing regular insight on the strengths and weaknesses of the business and accounting team, and developing actionable plans to support future growth.
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements to drive efficiency and accuracy in the month-end close and reporting processes.
