The position duties are as follows: Responsible for developing optimization models to enhance the company’s marketplace and using statistical analysis, machine learning, Generative AI, and optimization techniques to help answer questions such as, what is the propensity for a buyer to purchase an ad impression, what price will the buyer pay for the ad impression, and how valuable is this ad opportunity. Serving on a team of data scientists and engineers that is focused on increasing yield to sellers on the marketplace while ensuring that buyers’ performance objectives are met. Using a cutting-edge cloud technology stack to work with a dataset comprising billions of daily records and petabytes of storage, and making hundreds of millions of predictions deployed to environments requiring milliseconds response times. Day-to-day job duties include:

• Collaborating with business, operations, product, and engineering teams across the organization to solve the customers’ problems using data science;
• Developing models that help predict the value of an ad impression on the company’s marketplace;
• Designing and implementing methodologies that improve the performance and scale of advertising campaigns;
• Performing large-scale data analysis and developing optimization algorithms;
• Carrying out predictive analytics and modeling;
• Utilizing AI and machine learning with high dimensionality; and
• Performing statistical data modeling and analysis.

The position requires a Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Economics, Physics, Mathematics, a related field or foreign equivalent, followed by three (3) years of experience as a Data Scientist or in an equivalent role. In lieu of a Master’s Degree plus three (3) years of experience, employer will accept a Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Economics, Physics, Mathematics, a related field or foreign equivalent, followed by five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as a data scientist or in an equivalent role. Experience must include:

1. 2 years of experience leading data science projects;
2. 2 years of experience applying modern machine learning algorithms to massive datasets (raw logs of 200-250 terabytes per day and tables ranging from hundreds of billions to trillions of rows) and creating measurable business value in an ad-tech, mar-tech, fintech, or e-commerce company;
3. 2 years of experience developing algorithms for optimization of programmatic digital ads, TV ads, financial transactions, or online user actions;
4. 2 years of experience in A/B testing in a production environment;
5. 3 years of experience developing working prototypes with proven impact on the business while being a key stakeholder to seeing they are properly implemented in a production environment;
6. 3 years of experience working in at least one programming language (Python, Tensorflow, Scikit, or Google Cloud’s Vertex AI) for data manipulation, analysis, and machine learning, as well as interacting with distributed computing resources;
7. 3 years of experience querying and manipulating data with SQL in an environment that leverages both AWS and GCP infrastructures that includes familiarity with Snowflake, MySQL, DynamoDB and BigQuery; and
8. 3 years of experience applying statistical methods to practical problems.

The Basics

We are seeking a seasoned Staff Data Scientist with a strong mathematical foundation to join Tanium’s AI team. Tanium is the first-mover in delivering on the promise of autonomous endpoint management (AEM). The Foundations data science team–a small group inside of Instacart data science–is growing! The team’s remit is to work in partnership with Engineering by developing the statistical methodologies that fuel the analytic tooling used throughout Instacart for product experimentation.  

About the Role -We are looking for a staff level data scientist with expertise in experimentation, adaptive experiments, and causal inference to join us. This role will have enormous influence in two ways: First, this individual will help devise and develop the underlying methodologies used in tools by product analysts, data scientists, and engineers throughout the company. Decisions about the business will be made using the very tooling and methodology that this individual creates. Second, the individual will have substantial exposure to c-level stakeholders where their expertise in developing experimental systems and interpreting experimental findings will be a sought after resource. 

About the Team -The Foundations data science team at Instacart is responsible for developing and innovating world-class experimentation tools and causal inference measurement systems for use at scale. The team looks to combine the best of academic and industry practices to ensure that business decisions are made with the most accurate, reliable information. In addition, this team frequently consults throughout the greater Data Science org at Instacart to help solve the toughest problems.

• Communicate insights and findings to OPM stakeholders through a variety of media, including presentations, demonstrations, and written descriptions

Basic qualifications

• 7+ years of full-time experience as a Data Scientist or closely related role
• Proven experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, and predictive analytics
• Proficiency in programming languages and tools such as Python, R, SQL, Spark, and familiarity with visualization tools like Power BI
• Experience with data modeling: defining the schema/structure of data sets and the relationships between data sets
• Ability to prepare data for statistical modeling and an interest in building statistical and machine learning models
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in agile, cross-functional teams
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data insights into actionable recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience with Git and GitHub or other source control systems
• Residence in and ability to work in the U.S. (unfortunately, we cannot support Visas at this time)
• Ability to pass a U.S. Government background investigation

The Department: Service Fundamentals (Trust & Safety)

Trust & Safety at Gemini is a team dedicated to stopping bad actors, securing our user’s funds and ensuring the integrity of Gemini’s digital asset marketplace. We are a diverse group of technology, legal, data, and operational professionals who develop new approaches to solving classic problems using cutting edge tools and processes. Data is central to all of our business functions and drive many of our most important decisions at Gemini. As a result, the data analysts and scientists, associates and engineers that make up the Trust & Safety team are uniquely positioned to advise and influence cross-functional projects. These projects cover a wide-range of topics including fiat returns, identifying low quality and fraudulent users, and using on-chain information to support fraud detection.

The Role: Senior Data Scientist

As a member of our Trust and Safety data science team, you’ll shape the way we approach data at Gemini by using your analytical and communication skills to work with teams across the business. You will focus on customer onboarding, transactions, and payment strategies to lower payment return rates and identify and off-board bad actors from Gemini, as well as manage ad-hoc requests from cross-functional teams. You know how to ask the right questions and are passionate about using data to support and drive informed business decisions. You are ready to roll up your sleeves and are excited to take on challenging opportunities and projects. You’ll work with other data scientists, analysts, engineers, and fraud operators to guide strategies and achieve KPIs while communicating your insights with leaders across the organization.

Responsibilities:

• Process, clean, and visualize data from complex databases and create top-notch reporting solutions
• Partner with product managers, engineers, fraud operations, and other functions to drive insights for the Trust and Safety team
• Design experimentation frameworks such as decision trees and A/B test models,  identify leading indicators of fraud losses, and develop strategies to improve fraud capture rates 
• Design, build and enhance dimensional models for BI solutions
• Perform root cause analysis and resolve production and data issues
• Create test plans, test scripts, and perform data validation
• Tune SQL queries, reports, and ETL pipelines
• Build and maintain data dictionary and process documentation
• Research new tools and technologies to improve existing processes

Minimum Qualifications:

• 5+ years experience in data analytics, strategy analytics or modeling role
• 5+ years experience developing a BI applications (Tableau/Looker/Power BI, etc)  
• Advanced skills with SQL are a must
• Proficient in Python
• Experience with one or more MPP databases (Redshift, Bigquery, Snowflake, etc)
• Experience with one or more ETL tools (Informatica, Pentaho, SSIS, etc) 
• Experienced in working collaboratively across different teams and departments
• Strong technical and business communication
• This role may require on-call rotations

• Proficient in Developing LookML
• Knowledge and experience of financial markets, banking or exchanges

Salary Range: The base salary range for this role is between $136,000 - $170,000 in the State of New York, the State of California and the State of Washington. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider a number of factors including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
