About Syapse Epidemiology

Syapse has built a massive and revolutionary data-sharing network integrating clinical and molecular data from various health systems. Syapse Epidemiology is at the forefront of unlocking insights from this database to push forward the practice of precision medicine in cancer. You’ll be part of a team of epidemiology experts critical to the design and execution of our real-world data (RWD) studies, including the development of the study protocol,  statistical analysis plan and insights generation. Epidemiology plays a critical role in supporting both our health system and life science partners, as well as our product portfolio.

 

How You’ll Spend Your Days

You’ll interact with a cross-functional team to drive the development of real-world data insights in Syapse products, research studies, and publications.

  • Design, implement, interpret, report and publish the results of observational research studies that demonstrates the utility of RWD for customer needs
  • Ask the right scientific questions, ideate and make recommendations on fit-for-purpose data and analytics solutions 
  • Develop a comprehensive and deep understanding of the company’s data and foster learning with colleagues using analytical tools and applications to broaden data accessibility and advance our proficiency/efficiency in understanding and using the data appropriately.
  • Collaborate with external partners (e.g., key opinion leaders, regulatory decision makers, academic institutions, life science partners, payers) as needed on the design and implementation of RWD studies
  • Collaborate with internal partners (analytics, informatics, oncology and strategy) to  understand RWD needs and priorities, and develop plans to execute RWD projects based on these needs.
  • Maintain knowledge of observational data analysis methods and their application
  • Stay current with and adopt emergent analytical methodologies, tools and applications to ensure fit-for-purpose and impactful approaches.

What you bring to the table

  • A PhD with an emphasis in epidemiology 
  • Knowledge of RWD study design and execution
  • Experience with data analysis, specifically from observational study designs 
  • Experience with epidemiological, registry, EMR, and/or claims data
  • Experience using R, Python, SQL or similar and a highly technical acumen
  • Experience summarizing data for presentation

About the role

Applied Experience is one of the newest and fastest growing arms of the Syapse business. Leveraging standard quality improvement models, Syapse leverages its proprietary platform to develop data-driven insights to support delivery of high-quality care. Syapse brings those insights forward to key stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem (i.e., health systems, molecular testing labs, and life science companies) via programs to identify actionable opportunities to improve care and drive sustained impact by monitoring success of interventions over time.

As a key member of the Syapse’s Insights, Strategy, and Growth team, you will be responsible for Applied Experience. Already deployed with multiple life sciences and health system clients, you will continue refining the offering to deliver on the promise of high-quality, accessible care across the Syapse Learning Health Network. 

In addition, you will lead definition of further growth by supporting go-to market needs in the Applied Experience book of business by:

  • Working closely with commercial team members (i.e. Business Development and Marketing) to support go-to-market needs (i.e. proposals, sales pitches) 
  • Defining the future strategy, growth, and evolution of the Applied Experience offering 
  • Working hand in hand with our amazing Insights group to transform data insights into client-facing presentations that showcase the impact of Applied Experience to potential customers

  • Delivery of successful active Applied Experience projects
  • Increase life science business development efficiency as the Applied Experience offering subject matter expert and support proposal development for Applied Experience deals

About The Role

As the Vice President of Business Development you’ll join the team transforming the Commercial function at Syapse, driving significant growth of revenue and the business. You’ll leverage your extensive network in Life Sciences to take off from day one conducting end-to-end business development, from ground level prospecting through outreach, proposal development, pricing, and contracting. Utilizing your domain expertise and leveraging our unique blend of deep Community Health Systems data, molecular lab data, and comprehensive understanding of the cancer patient journey you’ll guide strategic discussions with future partners and deliver consistent commercial success for the business. 

Like all positions at Syapse, this position is located remotely, but this role will require moderate travel to client sites, conferences, events, etc….

What You’ll Accomplish  

  • Exceed revenue goals by landing and growing new accounts
  • Own and execute the entire sales process from prospecting through close
  • Develop strategic account plans with detailed analysis of customers, their pipeline, mapping out our offerings to their products, key stakeholders maps, and effective short and long-term strategies for expanding the account
  • Become a subject matter expert on Syapse’s capabilities and offerings and how they interact with industry trends and competitive landscape 
  • Create layered relationships with our clients, building multiple champions across medical, scientific, IT, commercial, and procurement teams
  • Drive proposal development internally and externally, leveraging Syapse’s wealth of internal expertise

About You

  • Been there, succeeded  at that.You have 8+ years of highly relevant experience and demonstrable high dollar figure, repeated, and recent success selling analytics services or similarly complex engagements to large and mid-sized pharmaceutical companies. 
  • Significant scientific acumen. You can connect the dots between our client’s scientific needs and the relevant solutions and offerings. You don’t need to have a Ph.D., but you should be able to converse in depth with someone who does. 
  • No such thing as, “not my job.”  You’re a dive in head first, own the end-to-end, energetic, entrepreneurial, and default to do vs. delegate go getter. You bring that highly self-driven, creative problem-solver attitude with a sense of urgency to everything you do.
  • Own  The Room. Whether in writing, on video, or in person you blend executive presence and presentation skills with a credibility that gains the trust of scientific clients

Compensation: 

The target base salary for this position is $200,000 to $250,000 + Commission.

About the role 

You will be an engineer on a team that is responsible for the ingestion of both important and complex clinical and molecular data. You’ll be operating on the bleeding edge of the Syapse service architecture, taking on new and unfamiliar problems and seeing their solutions through to completion.

You will be asked to come in and help standardize the ingestion of health system clinical and molecular data at scale. You will use cutting-edge cloud technologies to make an impact in the oncology space that will impact patients' lives.

 

What You’ll Accomplish 

Data is a crucial ingredient in the delivery of precision medicine. From standardized NAACCR registry data to FHIR/HL7 interfaces at leading oncology centers to highly customized integrations with third-party partners, the Data Acquisition team’s mission at Syapse is to acquire data reliably at a scale no matter where it resides and deliver it to the Syapse data platform. 

You will get an opportunity to own and lead data projects end to end. As a key technical member responsible for data ingestion and normalization you’ll work on the front lines of one of our most critical technical challenges as we lead the way to a future where every cancer patient has access to Precision Medicine. 

Things you’ll accomplish in your first year:

  • Standardize clinical and molecular data ingestion pipelines to handle variability in source data and rapidly ingest complex oncology data sets. 
  • Redesign and develop clinical data ingestion stores to streamline and accelerate data ingestion.
  • Build Custom APIs for clinical data exchange. (e.g. FHIR)

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Design and develop our interoperability platform to ingest clinical and lab data at scale.
  • Design and develop customization for Interface Engine.
  • Eliminate unscaled, non-value-added work; and reduce operational work through self-service and automation.
  • Work with technical experts and partners in infrastructure, applications, customer relationships, and implementation to deliver reliable services and meet customer expectations.

 

About You: 

  • 3+ years of professional experience with interface engines such as Cloverleaf, Mirth, or similar technologies.
  • Understanding of healthcare data workflows.
  • Knowledge of tiered applications, middleware, database systems, and supporting components physical, virtual, and cloud.
  • Basic programming skills in Python, Java, TCL, or related languages
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases

Bonus points for:

  • Specific knowledge of clinical, pathology, and molecular lab reporting data workflows.
  • Experience working with FHIR, HL7, CCDA, etc...
  • Cloverleaf certification level 1
  • Experience with Big Data AWS cloud technologies

About the role

As a Sr. Data Scientist, you will be responsible for driving projects that require diving deep into clinical data, completing analyses, and developing pipelines, tools, and R packages. You will collaborate with fellow data scientists, work in close partnership with epidemiologists, and coordinate with other teams including product, engineering, informatics, alliance management, and clinical KOLs.

You will need to execute against multiple deliverables simultaneously in a fast-paced and mission-driven environment. You'll enjoy solving the riddles associated with extracting, manipulating, and structuring data from complicated healthcare concepts into digestible, statistically rigorous insights. As a Research and Analytics Senior Data Scientist, you will develop best practices, work with the data science team to find patterns in cancer care, and help curate the narrative of the data.

What You’ll Accomplish

  • Clean, orient, and derive data elements from real-world healthcare data through data wrangling, pipeline engineering, algorithmic tooling, and analytical insight for use in research and the Analytical Datasets.
  • Support the development of data products & other product offerings.
  • Serve as a Data Scientist lead on retrospective studies.
  • Develop algorithms to interpret real-world data and derive insights.

How You’ll Spend Your Days

You’ll work with real-world data (RWD) and tackle novel RWD challenges. You’ll work side-by-side with researchers at Life Sciences companies, the FDA, and health systems to impact U.S. cancer care and its evaluation. You’ll develop R packages and pipelines to codify best practices for interpreting RWD across many domains (biomarker testing, procedures, medications, etc.).

What you bring to the table:

Education & Experience Minimum Requirements

  • Degree in one of the following fields: Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Mathematics, Informatics, Genetics, or related.
  • Bachelor's Degree +7 years or Advanced Degree +4 years professional experience explicitly working with applied data in oncology and/or precision medicine, including structuring data and performing analysis.

Hard Skills:

  • Content knowledge. You have years of professional experience building data products and/or models with multisource healthcare Real World Data.
  • Programming experience. You’ve built R packages and know your way around Tidyverse & Shiny.
  • Demonstrated experience with relational databases, particularly SQL.
  • Knowledge of statistical theory including generating descriptive statistics, data visualization, hypothesis testing, and regression modeling.

About the role

You will join the Syapse team to deploy and manage the Zero-Trust architecture and inform the security posture of our InfoSec service. You will Identify threats and vulnerabilities in Syapse systems and software and lead development and implementation of  high-tech solutions to defend against hacking, malware and ransomware, insider threats and all types of cybercrime.  You will have the support of an InfoSec, IT and DevOps team as well as the rest of the organization as we fully realize that we can only be successful through collaboration.

You will be a key contributor to our compliance and certification efforts such as HIPAA, HITRUST and others including annual audits and risk assessments.  In this role you will collaborate with all corporate stakeholders to drive security improvements in the data and code pipelines.

Your responsibilities in this role would include:

  • Identify threats and vulnerabilities in Syapse systems and software and apply patches and upgrades as required
  • Develop and implement high-tech solutions to defend against hacking, malware and ransomware, insider threats and all types of cybercrime
  • Manage configurations for network security systems including firewalls, cloud security tooling, endpoint configurations
  • Implement continuous monitoring and alerting by leveraging log aggregation and event correlation capabilities
  • Deploy critical components of Zero-Trust architecture as planned on the roadmap
  • Drive the security operations function providing operational support with tools and processes 
  • Provide guidance to our development teams regarding designs and best practices as it relates to information security best practices
  • Be part of proof of concept initiatives to test product ideas and recommend security architecture design for product development  
  • Conduct new (and annual) vendor security risk assessments
  • Partner with R&D to implement security tooling and represent InfoSec in cross-functional initiatives for DevSecOps improvements
  • Coordinate and support regular third-party penetration testing efforts 
  • Work closely with IT team to drive High Availability and Disaster Recovery for all corporate IT systems and services
  • Facilitate incident response processes in partnership with leadership team
  • Evangelize information security best practices through the organization
  • Represent InfoSec to maintain and improve business continuity plans

What you bring to the table

  • At least 8+ years experience in InfoSec where you were on a team driving and  managing the information security and compliance posture of corporate and cloud based applications. 
  • Operational expertise with secure Network Architecture, Vulnerability Management, Threat Modeling, Cloud Security, Firewalls, SSO, MFA, AV, Malware, DLP, Data Encryption, Least Privilege, RBAC.
  • Extensive hands-on expertise with a cloud platform such as AWS (preferred), Google Compute or Azure is a must.
  • Strong experience in Network Application Security practices.
  • Experience in handling compliance audits (HIPAA, SOX, etc.)
  • Experience with compliance certifications like PCI, SOC2, HITRUST, or FEDRAMP or FISMA.
  • Experience with external software penetration testing
