The Verge is seeking a sharp, thoughtful copy editor to join our ambitious team and uphold our high editorial standards. Copy editors are the last line of defense before something is published on our site or channels, ensuring our work is accessible, clear, inclusive, and accurate. As we launch subscription products such as our paid newsletters, this work will be even more vital. WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Manage and update The Verge’s style guide, which maintains guidance on tone, voice, and language use across all published work. This includes producing topical guidance for newsworthy moments. 
  • Copy edit text on our website, channels, podcasts, and videos from a large team of reporters, producers, and freelancers. This includes editing our weekly paid newsletters, Command Line and Notepad. 
  • Serve as a stakeholder in our ambitious special projects, working closely with The Verge’s managing editor and deputy editors on production. 
  • Co-write The Verge’s internal newsletter, ensuring language guidelines and standards are clearly communicated and enforced across our wide team of writers and editors.
  • Copy edit and fact-check a variety of off-platform copy, including brand marketing, events promotion, and print projects. 
  • Work closely with editorial leadership to develop, QA, and uphold standards across written, visual, and audio content.

 

WHO YOU ARE

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Minimum three years’ experience in copy editing, preferably for a digital-first news organization
  • A commitment to the highest editorial standards of accuracy, clarity, and inclusivity
  • The ability to work quickly and collaboratively under tight deadlines amid a busy news environment
  • A sharp eye for mistakes in grammar, spelling, and punctuation

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Games Writer will work directly with the Games Editor and other section stakeholders to carve out recurring coverage for the gaming beat, including reactive news coverage, opinion and criticism, curatorial work, and longer-term features. The writer will be assigned key beats throughout the year while also pitching ideas that will lead Polygon’s editorial in exciting new directions. The writer will also be encouraged to work with other editors and teams on coverage areas such as tabletop gaming, internet culture, film and television, and anything that fits the core editorial purview of the site.

On a weekly basis, the Games Writer will:

  • Write and lay out stories for the Games team, both short-form and long-form
  • Work on deadline, while pitching and developing future assignments
  • Maintain a calendar with the Games Editor that allows for reactive, news-driven writing
  • Play games for consideration, analysis, and potential reporting
  • Contribute to brainstorms and event-planning meetings in order to shape coverage
  • Work with Polygon's Entertainment, Culture, Guides, Commerce, Curation, and Special Issues teams on high-priority projects

Our Commerce Writer will create standout original content highlighting the best products in the market, all with an eye on Eater’s editorial standards, style, and voice.   

In partnership with Eater’s Editorial team and Special Projects Director, you will be responsible for: 

  • Research, report, write, and occasionally edit food-focused Commerce content — including product guides, deal stories, and reviews — with agility, sharp instincts, speed, and attention to detail, while working closely with editors and ensuring the team is hitting affiliate revenue and output goals 
  • Optimizing existing stories and identifying  Commerce opportunities on Eater stories network-wide
  • Think creatively about sources, identify experts, and plan and conduct meaningful short- and long-term tests
  • Ensure all Commerce content is in line with the Eater brand mission, voice, and audience goals as well as visual standards
  • Innovating new coverage areas and themes across Eater Commerce content
  • Capturing and editing images in tandem with product reviews, when necessary
  • Participating in regular Eater brainstorms and discussions for brand tentpoles and projects — in addition to taking on other story assignments (bandwidth permitting)

 

WHO YOU ARE

  • 3 years of experience in digital media, preferably in the lifestyle and commerce space
  • A love of data, experience optimizing content for search, and deep understanding of SEO
  • A talent for writing compelling, clean copy quickly and with ease
  • The ability to identify Commerce stories of interest to an audience well-versed in and passionate about eating and cooking
  • Impeccable writing and communication skills, and a strong understanding of what makes a good story
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing, collaborative team environment

We’re looking for a creative, innovative and data-driven Social Media Manager with demonstrated experience in e-commerce and success in building brands to join The Dodo. As the creator behind our new shopping social channels, your on-camera charisma will play a pivotal role in influencing the way our audience shops.

  • Manage all day-to-day aspects of our e-commerce content and distribution strategy across The Dodo’s Instagram and TikTok channels, including posting, scheduling, distribution and all community management efforts.

WHO YOU ARE

  • 3+ years of experience working in social media, producing and editing engaging videos 
  • 2+ years in commerce/affiliate content
  • Experience as a content creator is a huge bonus, bringing firsthand insights and expertise in engaging audiences through original content
  • Experience with affiliate platforms, such as Amazon, LTK, ShopStyle, TikTok Shop, etc. 
  • An engaging personality and ability to connect with an audience on-camera and through voice over — you value authenticity and feel confident in front of a camera!
