Brightspeed has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Data Scientist, Product, Marketing, and Sales. As a member of the Business Intelligence and Analytics team, you will bring rigorous data science methods to uncover insights that will drive decisions for the CMO organization and influence teams from across the company to better serve our customers.   • Own and manage data science projects from inception through implementation, delivering them on time and on budget

  • Identify model evaluation metrics, applying best practices for testing and tuning that ensure accuracy, fit, robustness, and validity

Job Description

·        Develop clear and well-structured analytic plans

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree (Information, Operations Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, IT, or Computer Science majors preferred)
  • At least 2-3 years of analytic programming experience, preferably in healthcare
  •  Ability to assess technical challenges and program solutions, and solve complex problems
  • Proven experience in a collaborative team environment and be flexible in taking on multiple projects

    Who you are

    The Data Scientist for In Our Backyards (IOB) will be responsible for data collection, processing and analysis. Their work will support federal, state and local advocacy and technical assistance meant to reverse the rise of incarceration in smaller cities and rural communities. In this capacity they will also work closely with the network of IOB’s community partners and ensure that Vera’s data and analysis is a resource for the justice reform movement. They will design and manage large-scale software systems and the development of new tools and resources meant to leverage and improve Vera’s existing repository of incarceration data. This includes the public-facing Incarceration Trends Project, web scraping, and other innovative ways of collecting information about the criminal justice system.

    In this role, you will:

    1. Integrate external sources of criminal justice data with our internally collected data; clean, analyze and visualize data for team and public use.
    2. Maintain large scale data collection projects.
    3. Provide consultation to other groups at Vera with technical needs
    4. Support community partners with customized data and analysis.
    5. Manage and oversee short and long-term data science volunteers for the project.

     

    What qualifications do you need?

    Required:

    • More than a year of professional software development
    • Demonstrated proficiency working with data collection, processing, and analysis in Python, with preference for experience with web scraping and using Python Pandas library.

    • Preparing research reports, briefs, presentation decks, academic manuscripts, and other internal and external communications summarizing research methods, findings, and implications for marketing strategies and messaging
    • Tailoring presentations and reports for a range of audiences from an array of scientific and non-scientific backgrounds
    • Interacting with the project team on a day-to-day basis and working under tight deadlines to fulfill client requests
    • Communicating effectively and professionally with stakeholders with varying ranges of research knowledge and experience
    • Anticipating potential barriers to project completion, proposing solutions to team leadership

    Qualifications:

    • Graduate degree in social science (e.g., communication, political science, economics), mathematics, statistics, engineering, data science/analytics, marketing, advertising, public health, or related field
    • At least five years of professional research experience or graduate training in social sciences, such as marketing, advertising, public health, communications, political science, or economics
    • Expertise in R, Stata, and SQL
    • Experience working with a variety of causal inference techniques, such as difference-in-differences (DiD), synthetic control, regression discontinuity designs (RDD), and instrumental variable models. Candidates should have experience and expertise estimating causal effects from time structured observational data
    • Experience using statistical model to determine the suitability of a dataset for analysis, identify anomalies in data, aggregate data efficiently, and engineer features for analysis
    • Experience working with large, complex, and nuanced datasets
    • Ability to work well with others, as well as independently under minimal supervision
    • Strong verbal and written communications skills
    • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
    • Applicants may be subject to a low-level government security investigation and must meet eligibility criteria for access to sensitive information

    Preferred qualifications:

    •  Ph.D.  in social science (e.g., communication, political science, economics), mathematics, statistics, engineering, data science/analytics, marketing, advertising, public health, or related field.
    • Expertise in Bayesian Statistics
    • Experience in at least one of the following statistical techniques including, but not limited to, experimental design, time series analysis, hierarchical linear modeling, duration modeling, and media attribution techniques.
    • Experience conducting health communications or marketing analytics research or evaluation
    • Experience with data management for complex projects
    • Knowledge of marketing metrics, marketing principles and terminology
    • Experience in applied research as part of a government contract
    • Experience working with government agencies such as FDA, CDC, CPSC, or HHS
