We work in cross-functional squads where every data scientist is a member of a central data discipline and fully embedded into Borrowing product squads alongside engineers, designers, marketers and product managers.

Your day-to-day

• Apply your expertise in analytics and data science to build a comprehensive understanding of our customers through identifying their needs and behaviours to steer data driven product development.
• Lead and empower product teams to measure things that matter to improve our products and customer experience.
• Design, implement and analyse A/B tests to assess the impact of product features and changes.
• Collaborate with user research to use data to enhance insights and guide strategic decisions.

Pay Transparency

• A bachelor's degree and 3+ years of industry or educational experience in a technical field.

The role

Agile Six is seeking aSenior Data Scientistto join an agile, cross functional team supporting the Federal Government customers in creating AI-enabled solutions to create better services for beneficiaries, patients, and employees, reduce healthcare provider burnout, and improve care quality. Our team will work closely with the client to identify key challenges, conduct research, and develop AI-driven solutions including machine learning models and AI tools. We will integrate these into existing systems while adhering to strict data security and ethical AI guidelines. This role will be hands-on using commercial and open source LLMs, Prompt Engineering, RAG architectures, and other machine learning tools.

Responsibilities

• Assessing AI-enabled approaches to specific problems is appropriate. Advising stakeholders where AI-enabled approaches may and may not be appropriate.
• Evaluating and selecting specific Machine Learning (ML)-based approaches.
• Developing solution prototypes and minimum viable products for testing with users.
• Conducting research with stakeholders to engineer prompts for large language model (LLM)-based tools
• Customizing commercial LLMs to meet the needs of VA employees, including tuning, prompt engineering, and integration with existing VA systems.
• Support the practice of data science within the larger company as needed through activities such as:
  • Assisting in outreach, recruitment, and hiring efforts
  • Occasionally participating in or otherwise supporting business development efforts, including code or design challenges, writing or reviewing proposal responses, etc.
  • Participating in communities of practice
• We expect the responsibilities of this position to shift and grow organically over time, in response to considerations such as the unique strengths and interests of the selected candidate and other team members and an evolving understanding of the delivery environment.

Basic qualifications

• Experience implementing LLM based applications or services; including model and toolchain selection.
• Experience enhancing LLMs with external knowledge bases or databases, and fine-tuning pre-trained LLMs on domain-specific data or tasks, improving their performance and accuracy for specialized use cases.
• 9 years of experience in data science and machine learning.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms for machine learning; including SageMaker and Azure Machine Learning.
• Experience with Machine Learning and Deep Learning Algorithms, and applying them to production solutions.
• Familiarity with privacy-preserving tools and handling PII.
• Excellent communication skills, ability to document and present complex technical options and trade-offs to engineering and non-technical audiences.
• Experience in an open-source, collaborative development environment
• Ability to be autonomous, take initiative, and effectively communicate status and progress
• Adaptive, empathetic, collaborative, and holds a positive mindset
• Has lived and worked in the United States for 3 out of the last 5 years
