The technology team at Sense is looking for an experienced ML Operations Engineer to help the data science team scale and to deploy, monitor, and maintain machine learning models in production.

Responsibilities 

  • Design, build, and maintain model training and serving infrastructure for CI/CD
  • Collaborate with data scientists and data engineers to improve productivity by increasing automation for model training and experimentation workflows
  • Provide technical leadership to data engineers
  • Support annotation and ground truth collection through tool improvement and automation
  • Champion best practices for data science software development processes and serve as architect for shared data science software libraries
  • Work with the infrastructure guild to upgrade and patch libraries; maintain and optimize pipelines
  • Responsible for ensuring data science production software is robust and scalable
  • Identify and implement cost savings; monitor and manage costs

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience designing, building, and maintaining production AI/ML applications
  • Strong programming skills (Python, C, etc.) 
  • Experience with ML libraries (PyTorch, scikit-learn, Tensorflow)

THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE

The Enterprise Analytics and Modeling - Risk Management - Lead Associate (Open to Remote) role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:

  • Execute on tactical elements of governance compliance for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).
  • Be part of the team responsible for providing program management and oversight for 1St LoD AI/ML risk management.
  • Work with team members and leadership to prepare content and facilitate AI council and working group meetings.
  • Work with stakeholders and team members to ensure requisite activities associated with AI/ML regulatory guidance occur.
  • Work with MGS team members to ensure requisite activities within the enterprise AI/ML Risk Management Standard occur.
  • Work with key stakeholders on identifying heightened risks, controls, and value of prospective AI/ML use cases.
  • Work with Enterprise Architecture to create, and sustain, a comprehensive AI/ML use take intake process.
  • Maintain the comprehensive inventory of AI use cases, evidence of review and approval, and associated documentation.
  • Partner with Model Risk Management and other functions (e.g., legal) on requisite review and effective challenge of new AI/ML use cases.
  • Partner with subject-matter-experts and strategic leaders to ensure execution of requisite control activities as articulated in the enterprise AI/ML strategy.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to develop and deliver training content and socialization about AI/ML risk processes and controls.
  • Guide team in preparing analyses and reports used to determine business areas that pose potential risks to the enterprise.

  • Lead team in monitoring information and processes to reduce risk using rigorous analysis.

In this role, you will be instrumental in shaping how we improve catalog data quality and selection. You'll work closely with Catalog Product, Machine Learning (ML), and Engineering teams to set and implement strategies.. Your tasks will involve enabling our ML model pipelines through building LLM prompts, developing ground truth datasets, and assessing ML model performance. With SQL as your daily tool, you'll delve into data, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and spotting trends. You will mentor and train colleagues while spearheading your own projects.

 

 

About the Team - 

 

The Selection & Quality Operations team is a dynamic part of the Catalog Engineering organization. In collaboration with Catalog Product, Engineering, Data Science, ML, and retailer-facing teams, we ensure the measurement and improvement of catalog data quality. By developing effective processes and tools, we address widespread catalog issues and improve the customer experience. 

Catalog data/attributes are used to power customer experiences in all Instacart products (e.g., Marketplace, Caper, Storefront Pro). Our work ensures that high-quality catalog data forms the bedrock of exceptional customer experience.

 

 

About the Job 

AI Enablement (40%)

  • Scale data quality issue detection using ML. Collaborate with ML on attribute ML models and human-in-the-loop methodologies. You are responsible for building ground truth datasets, advising ML on what input data should be used, and defining instructions for how to define quality. 
  • Independently lead key projects and manage against catalog OKRs. This involves collaborating and aligning with a cross-functional team of technical and non-technical stakeholders to achieve the goals of a project within a defined timeframe. 
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data Science, and ML on projects (e.g., reduce # of catalog errors in a system).
  • Lead the development of scalable solutions that enhance the accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of data processing and integration pipelines.
  • Implement and manage processes to support the ongoing operations for new Enterprise products. 

Troubleshooting & Monitoring (40%) 

  • Manage and resolve Tier 2 complex data issues, ensuring minimal disruptions to operations.

  • Design, develop, and deploy monitoring systems to track system health, data flow, and potential integration issues across various platforms.
  • Create comprehensive error reporting mechanisms that provide clear, actionable insights for both internal teams and external partners.

Team Mentorship (20%)

About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of working experience in roles that involve technical support, project management, project delivery, stakeholder management, and/or data analysis/analytics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT management, or related field.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting complex data issues. 
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects end-to-end, with strong communication and stakeholder management skills. 
  • Strong attention to detail. 
  • Proven track record of strong ownership and bias to action to drive key business results.
  • Blend of business acumen and technical understanding for operational strategy and execution.
  • Intermediate knowledge in Excel, Google Sheets, and SQL. Experience using analytical skills to pull, analyze, and make data-driven business decisions.

  • You have experience with advanced LLM techniques: Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), RLHF, or LoRA.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Data Platforms Solutions Architect to join our team. This role goes beyond traditional architecture and has a strong emphasis on business development applications of the technology knowledge. As a Solutions Architect, you will collaborate with clients and internal teams to design and present tailored data platform solutions, custom to various customer opportunities needs.

You will leverage your hands-on experience with modern data engineering tools paired with your ability to provide strategic insights during presales engagements.

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Drive innovation in Data & AI Business Opportunities: actively contribute to business development by identifying opportunities, understanding client needs, and proposing innovative data platform solutions based on modern cloud accelerators and frameworks (e.g. Databricks, Snowflake, Synapse);
  • Tailor client focused solutions:partner with sales teams to deliver compelling technical presentations, demonstrations, and proofs of concept while being able to influence clients' strategic decisions by showcasing the value of data engineering and platform architectures tailored to their needs;
  • Lead discovery and shape solutions:Drive as a leader the Discovery Workshops with new clients, aiming on collecting the business requirements and work with the BA/PO in documenting these requirements;
  • Design operational-fit architectures: Carefully analyse all the use-cases of the data platform for provided business added value (e.g. pipelines for BI, AI driven decision-making, data mesh self-service architectures);
  • Offer technical advisory: Guide clients through tool selection and best practices in data platform design, including pitching the reasoning behind certain choices; pitch the end-to-end solution to the internal and end-customer stakeholders;
  • Advance technical expertise:Design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance data platforms, including data lakes, warehouses, and integration pipelines;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams:partner with stakeholders to align business goals with technology solutions, proposing practical models to calculate the Total-cost-of-ownership (TCO);
  • Technical leadership: Implement the PoCs associated with the provided high-level solution designs and lead the mid-senior data engineers in transforming the PoC into the Production MVP.

 

Qualifications

Must have:

  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering, focusing on data governance, data lakes, pipelines, and ETL/ELT processes;
  • 3+ years of experience in a Data Platforms Solutions Architect role, leading platform design and implementation;
  • Expertise in data lake platforms like Databricks, Azure Data Lake, AWS Lake Formation, or Google BigQuery;
  • Proficiency in data processing frameworks (Apache Spark, Kafka, Flink) and orchestration tools (Airflow, ADF, AWS Step Functions);
  • Strong knowledge of security & governance (RBAC, encryption, GDPR, HIPAA compliance) and distributed storage systems (Parquet, ORC, Delta Lake);
  • Experience with cloud-native platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, or Bicep);
  • Proficiency in automation, DevOps, and observability using tools like DataDog, Prometheus, or cloud-native monitoring;
  • Strong skills in Python, SQL, or Scala for building data transformations and performance-optimized models (star, snowflake, data vault);
  • Pre-sales support experience, including RFPs, technical proposals, and business development support;
  • Strong communication & leadership skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have:

 

  • Experience integrating data lakes with machine learning platforms like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or cloud-based AI/ML services (e.g., AWS SageMaker, Azure ML, Google Vertex AI);
  • Familiarity with feature stores and their role in operationalizing ML (e.g., Feast, Databricks Feature Store);
  • Understanding of data modeling, data ingestion, and ETL/ELT processes tailored for AI/ML use cases;
  • A plus are the following certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Google Professional Cloud Architect, Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional, Snowflake Advanced Architect Certification, Certified AI Practitioner (CAIP).

Compensation and Benefits

This role will receive a competitive salary and benefits. The salary for US-based employees will be aligned with the range below, which includes our three geographic areas.
