Cloudflare is hiring a Remote Software Engineer

About Us

At Cloudflare, we are on a mission to help build a better Internet. Today the company runs one of the world’s largest networks that powers millions of websites and other Internet properties for customers ranging from individual bloggers to SMBs to Fortune 500 companies. Cloudflare protects and accelerates any Internet application online without adding hardware, installing software, or changing a line of code. Internet properties powered by Cloudflare all have web traffic routed through its intelligent global network, which gets smarter with every request. As a result, they see significant improvement in performance and a decrease in spam and other attacks. Cloudflare was named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top Company Cultures list and ranked among the World’s Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company.

We realize people do not fit into neat boxes. We are looking for curious and empathetic individuals who are committed to developing themselves and learning new skills, and we are ready to help you do that. We cannot complete our mission without building a diverse and inclusive team. We hire the best people based on an evaluation of their potential and support them throughout their time at Cloudflare. Come join us!

While this job can be worked almost entirely remotely, hiring is focused on the following greater metro areas (~50 miles):

  • Austin, TX
  • Atlanta, GA
  • Chicago, IL
  • Denver, CO
  • New York City
  • Seattle, WA
  • Washington, DC
  • Mexico City, MX

About the Role

An engineering role at Cloudflare provides an opportunity to address some big challenges, at scale.  We believe that with our talented team, we can solve some of the biggest security, reliability and performance problems facing the Internet. Just how big?

  • We have in excess of 15 Terabits of network transit capacity
  • We operate 300+ Points-of-presence around the world
  • We serve more traffic than Twitter, Amazon, Apple, Instagram, Bing, & Wikipediacombined
  • Anytime we push code, it immediately affects over 200 million internet users
  • Every day, up to 20,000 new customers sign-up for Cloudflare service
  • Every week, the average Internet user touches us more than 500 times

We are looking for talented Software Engineers to build and develop the platform which makes Cloudflare customers place their trust in us.  Our Software Engineers come from a variety of technical backgrounds and have built up their knowledge working in different environments. But the common factors across all of our reliability-focused engineers include a passion for automation, scalability, and operational excellence.  Our Infrastructure Software Systems and Automation team focuses on the automation to scale our infrastructure.

Our team is well-funded and focused on building an extraordinary company.  This is a superb opportunity to join a high-performing team and scale our high-growth network as Cloudflare’s business grows.  You will build tools to constantly improve our scale and speed of deployment.  You will nurture a passion for an “automate everything” approach that makes systems failure-resistant and ready-to-scale.

Cloudflare Software Engineers focus on automating our infrastructure installations and decommissions at scale.  We enable our Data Centre Engineering teams by allowing them to install new data centers, replace servers and networking in existing data centers as quickly and efficiently as possible while not impacting existing infrastructure and customer services.  While our focus is on automation and accurate asset tracking, there is an element of ongoing operational support of Data Center Engineers and other teams.  We also review upcoming hardware changes and update automation and configuration management to cater to these advances.

Many of our Software Engineers have had the opportunity to work at multiple offices on interim and long-term project assignments. The ideal Software Engineering candidate has strong knowledge of Python and Golang, with Rust an advantage. Tripadvisor is hiring a Remote Lead Database Administrator/Principal Software Engineer (PostgreSQL)

We believe that we are better together, and at Tripadvisor we welcome you for who you are. Our workplace is for everyone, as is our people powered platform. At Tripadvisor, we want you to bring your unique perspective and experiences, so we can collectively revolutionize travel and together find the good out there.

The Site Operations team at Tripadvisor is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the core systems that power and support the tripadvisor.com website. This includes systems in both private data centers and over a hundred accounts in AWS. Our scope of responsibilities is vast and would take an entire page to list here. Suffice it to say that we are the go-to team for questions about the interface boundaries that lie between these two halves of the company, as well as the deep inner workings of the legacy half. Data at Tripadvisor is hugely important, and as a result, we have over 600 on-premise logical databases running on over 100 database hosts serving petabytes of data. As a Lead DBA/Principal Software Engineer on the SiteOps team, you will be a force multiplier for our engineering & operations teams, delivering tooling & infrastructure that not only has a direct impact on day-to-day operations but also helps contribute to the future evolution of Infrastructure & Engineering here at Tripadvisor. You'll be part of a dynamic team responsible for ensuring the high availability, reliability, and scalability of our data maintenance and delivery.

We are looking for passionate engineers with deep experience in Postgres, as well as AWS DMS, RDS, and Aurora, to help us optimize and automate our infrastructure and deployment processes around our databases. We are currently involved in several types of systems migrations, within both the scope of on-prem to AWS/cloud-native migrations, as well as on-prem data centers to alternate AWS-based data center migrations. As a Lead DBA/Principal Software Engineer, you will be involved in designing and implementing how we perform those migrations, testing those migrations, and then performing them with a “no surprises in production” mindset. In addition, you will have a major role in evolving the infrastructure as code and configuration management we use to both keep the lights on for our existing on-prem databases and transition them into the cloud. This is a business-facing role, and as such, significant leadership and communication experience is required.

What you'll do:

  • Infrastructure Automation: Design, implement, and maintain automated infrastructure provisioning and configuration management using Python, Ansible, and Typescript CDK to ensure consistency and scalability.

  • Strong programming skills in these areas is a must have.
  • Monitoring and Alerting: Set up monitoring and logging systems to proactively detect and address potential issues, ensuring optimal performance and reliability, in environments like on-prem Prometheus/Thanos, as well as Grafana Cloud and Loki.

  • Database Management: Manage hundreds of on-prem PostgreSQL databases, including performance tuning, backups, disaster recovery strategies, and their active/passive counterparts in AWS.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, system administrators, and technical managers, to improve the overall development and deployment processes, and keep everyone in sync as to deliverables and timelines.

  • Troubleshooting and Incident Management: Assist in identifying and resolving operational issues and participate in on-call rotations.

Skills & Experience:

  • At least 10 years of expertise in database operations with a focus on building and maintaining scalable infrastructures around data.

  • At least 5 years of working directly with Postgres at a Senior level

  • At least 5 years of experience in leadership and communicating with the business.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment.

  • Strong proficiency in Python for scripting and automation tasks and with CDK for AWS deployments.

  • Solid understanding of AWS-based data management technologies.

  • Experience in configuration management using Ansible.

  • Experience with infrastructure as code using CDK.

  • Understanding of CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, and GitHub Actions.

  • Understanding of networking concepts such as load balancing and DNS is also a plus.

  • Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes is a plus.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

If you need a reasonable accommodation or support during the application or the recruiting process due to a medical condition or disability, please reach out to your individual recruiter or send an email to AccessibleRecruiting@Tripadvisor.com and let us know the nature of your request. Please include the job requisition number in your message.

Sendle is hiring a Remote Software Engineer

Do you have a passion for building software that truly makes a difference? Are you motivated by creating the best experience for customers and making their lives easier? We'd love to talk to you! We're looking for someone to join our Product Engineering team at Sendle—a team grounded in values of collaboration, problem-solving, trust, growth, and learning.

About the tech

We believe in striking a balance between using the right tool for the job and keeping our architecture simple. Our tech stack consists of Ruby, Elixir, React, Postgres, Redis, and Kafka. We use an automated, pull request-based, continuous integration and feedback workflow. All engineers can deploy to production and we do so several times a day.

A bit about us

Sendle helps small businesses thrive by making parcel delivery simple, reliable, and affordable. We’re a B Corp and Australia’s first 100% carbon-neutral delivery service, to create a simple, user-friendly service that levels the playing field for small businesses.

Sendle is a fast-growing business with bold ambitions. We have made huge strides towards our goal of becoming the largest SMB eCommerce courier in the World, moving from a single-country operation in Australia to a successful launch and operation in the US and Canada. We also launched major partnerships with eBay and Shopify. Our work has a real impact: by powering eCommerce logistics, our software is helping real-world businesses deliver real parcels to their customers; this is more than just records in a database.

About the team

We are a team full of passionate, self-confessed nerds and general geeks. We laugh together, celebrate together, and we make wacky emojis together. Everyone truly brings their entire self to work.

We are a 100% remote engineering team and have been since the beginning, with members all around Australia. Sendle is a trusting and flexible workplace, making it a great fit for engineers who know it’s the results that matter, not time spent at the keyboard.

You can listen to this podcast with our VP of Engineering, Claire Tran, on taking small, meaningful steps into leadership.

How you'll spend your time

Engineers work in cross-functional product teams with designers, customer support, marketing, and logistics experts. At Sendle you might work on projects such as integrating with an eCommerce platform, improving the way customers manage their parcels, or integrating and connecting courier networks in innovative ways.  That means crafting solutions that are well-architected, robust, and scalable, finding the sweet spot between simplicity and maintainability.

Let's talk about you

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is excited to build an environmentally sustainable courier business and solve customer problems
  • Loves working in a team and supporting team members
  • Has worked on production applications
  • Has good written and spoken communication skills
  • Is hungry to learn and try new things, as well as contribute to knowledge sharing

And may have one or more of these (though not required):

  • Knows their way around SQL and PostgreSQL
  • Frontend experience with React, TypeScript or another modern JavaScript framework
  • Experience with Ruby or Elixir, enough to be able to jump into a couple mid-sized code bases and find your way around

What we’re offering

  • The chance to work with a creative team in a supportive environment
  • A generous personal development budget
  • You are able to create your own work environment, connecting to a remote team from anywhere in Australia
  • EAP access for you and your immediate family, because we care about your wellbeing
  • Dedicated study time for topics that motivate you. For example, we have a group learning Rust together
  • Options through participation in Sendle’s ESOP

What matters to us

We believe that our culture is one of our most important assets. We have 5 key values that we look for in every member of our team.

  • Humble - We put others first. We embrace and seek feedback from others.
  • Honest - We speak gently but frankly. We take ownership of our mistakes and speak the truth.
  • Happy - We enjoy the journey. We are optimistic and find opportunities in all things.
  • Hungry - We aspire to make a difference. We aim high, step out of our comfort zones and tackle the hard problems.
  • High-Performing - We relentlessly deliver. We know the goal and work fearlessly towards it.

Legally, we need you to know this:

We are an equal-opportunity employer and value diversity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

If you require accommodations due to a disability to participate in the application or interview process, please get in touch with our team at careers@sendle.com to discuss your needs.

But it’s important to us that you know this:

We strongly believe that diversity of experience contributes to a broader collective perspective that will consistently lead to a better company and better outcomes. We are working hard to increase the diversity of our team wherever we can and we actively encourage everyone to consider becoming a part of it.

If you want to be a part of something remarkable, we’re excited to hear from you.

Pleo is hiring a Remote Senior Engineer - Developer Experience

Engineers are the backbone of all we do at Pleo. Without these wildly brilliant people, we don’t have a thing. To make them happy and productive is the goal of the Developer Experience team.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Software Engineer to join that very Developer Experience team at Pleo. This role is perfect for an engineer, who is interested in supporting other engineers and learning about their most important pain-points by working closely with them.

What will you do? In this role, you will be a force multiplier, enabling other engineers to do even better. You will not only work within a team but also look across Pleo to identify, build, and deliver systemic improvements to help everyone be better and move towards their vision.

Developer Experience is a pretty senior team which allows for good learning opportunities, but also a very open team where your thoughts and ideas are highly valued. As one team, you’ll provide frameworks, libraries, developer tools and guides to make the life of an engineer as enjoyable as possible. You’ll be building features incrementally, prioritizing early feedback and iterative development.

You know your way around:

  • Cloud environments / distributed systems / microservices (AWS, Google Cloud, Kubernetes),
  • Server-side languages (we mostly use Kotlin and TypeScript but we know you can learn new languages)
  • Testing frameworks (Cypress, Mockk, JUnit, Testcontainers) and principles
  • DevOps culture and tools (GitHub Actions, Gradle, Terraform)
  • Observability and monitoring (Datadog)
  • Relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL)

Your colleagues would say you:

    • Work in English with ease (it's our company language)
    • Never stop being curious and love learning about new languages/ frameworks/ working styles
    • Have experience solving complex technical challenges at scale
    • Ensure a high bar for quality and reliability within your team
    • Coach others to help them develop as engineers
    • Advocate for a more thorough code review process than a quick scroll to the bottom of the page and a “LGTM!”
    • Are regularly giving and receiving feedback - both positive and constructive
    • You don’t just write code; you help to design the overall solution
    • Are sought after within your team for help in solving challenging problems
    • You’re a force multiplier within your team - your work enables other engineers to do be even better
    • are able to describe technical debt faced by your team. And then able to propose a solution or path forward.

Check out our Engineering Hiring Blog Post to get an in-depth overview of our hiring process and what to expect. Enjoy the reading!

Why join us?

Working at Pleo means you're working on something very exciting: the future of work. Our mission is to help every company go beyond the books. Pleo itself means ‘more than you’d expect’, and it’s been the secret to our success over the last 8 years. So it’s only fitting that we’d pass this philosophy onto our customers to help them make the most of their finances.

We think company spending should be delegated to all employees and teams, that it should be as automated as possible, and that it should drive a culture of responsible spending. Finance teams shouldn’t be siloed from the rest of the organisation – they should work in unity with marketing, sales, IT and everyone else.

Speaking of working in unity, our values tell the story of how we work at Pleo. We have four core values, the first of which is ‘champion the customer’, which means we address real pain points that businesses face. Next up is ‘succeed as a team’, which highlights how our strength lies in our diversity and trust in each other. We also ‘make it happen’ by taking bold decisions and following through to deliver results. Last but not least, we ‘build to scale’, creating lasting solutions that address today’s challenges and anticipate tomorrow’s needs.
