Job Locations: US Remote or Hybrid from Austin Texas

As an engineer on one of our Production Engineering teams, you'll be building the tools to help engineers deploy and operate the services that make Cloudflare work. Our mission is to provide a reliable, yet flexible, platform to help product teams release new software efficiently and safely. You’ll be building the private cloud that Cloudflare developers leverage to build Cloudflare itself. Core platforms we operate at Cloudflare include:

  • Temporal - workflow automation framework
  • Kafka and Zookeeper
  • Developer tools, CI, and CD systems
  • Vault, Consul, Terraform
  • Kubernetes

What You'll Do

  • Build software that automates the operation of large, highly-available distributed systems.
  • Ensure platform security, and guide security best practices

What You'll Need

  • Recent career experience with Go or Python and at least 3 years experience in the role of full-time software engineer (any language). Go, Python, and Rust are common programming languages at Cloudflare.
  • Experience with deploying and managing services using Docker on Linux
  • A firm grasp of IP networking, load balancing and DNS
  • Excellent debugging skills in a distributed systems environment
  • Source control experience including branching, merging and rebasing (we use git)
  • The ability to break down complex problems and drive towards a solution
  • Be passionate about reducing toil and adding automation

Bonus Points

  • Experience developing Temporal or Cadence workflow automation
  • Operational experience deploying and managing large systems on bare metal
  • Experience as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) for a large-scale company
  • Experience with Deployment, Persistent Volumes Claims, Ingresses, CRDs on Kubernetes
  • You have practical knowledge of web and systems performance, and extensively used tracing tools like ebpf and strace.

Compensation

Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location.

  • For Colorado and Texas based hires: Estimated annual salary of $137,000 - $167,000
  • For New York City, Washington, and California (excluding Bay Area) based hires: Estimated annual salary of $154,000- $188,000.
  • For Bay Area-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $162,000 - $198,000

We are seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer to join our global and fully remote DevOps team. The ideal candidate will be located in Poland and join our existing DevOps team within the QAD Engineering division.

The DevOps team is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our infrastructure and application deployment toolset, as well as being DevOps evangelists for QAD. What you’ll do:

  • Design, implement and continually improve product release automation for QAD applications.
  • Build and maintain the continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines for QAD products.
  • Drive enthusiasm and promote adoption of the principles and philosophy of the DevOps methodology across all engineering and operations teams.
  • Mentor and share best practices and new technologies across the organization, including automation, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and monitoring.

  • Work with the development teams to define and implement automated build and testing strategies.
  • Design, implement, and maintain our infrastructure as code (using Terraform) and Gitlab pipelines to enable efficient release, deployment and management of QAD’s products.
  • Utilize Helm to manage Kubernetes applications and facilitate deployment orchestration.
  • Implement and maintain ArgoCD for continuous delivery of applications to Kubernetes clusters.
  • Collaborate with development teams to optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability in production environments.
  • Collaborate with our Observability and Cloud Operations team to monitor and maintain the health of our infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in DevOps and cloud computing.

Qualifications

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ yearsof proven experience as a DevOps Engineer, Software Engineer or similar role.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong proficiency with GitLab or equivalent for CI/CD.
  • Solid experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code.
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes

The Department: Platform

The Embedded SRE team is a part of Site Reliability Engineering with a focus on engaging directly with our other engineering teams to onboard them onto our platform systems, reviewing and recommending design and architectural decisions, and guiding our engineering teams on how to implement the tooling provided by the larger Platform organization required to ensure systems can scale and react to changing conditions, with continuous improvement loops.

The Role: Senior Site Reliability Engineer

You will be an integral part of leading Gemini’s engineering teams towards modern DevOps practices, both by developing and providing modern automation and operational tooling, and working cross-functionally across Gemini’s engineering teams to influence and shape our development practices and culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide primary operational support and engineering for various Gemini services
  • Improve reliability, quality and time-to-market across all Gemini services and offerings
  • Guide engineering teams onto the various supported services provided by Platform
  • Run on-going performance evaluations and improvements for Gemini systems
  • Provide architecture recommendations and engagement as part of SDLC
  • Create “Production-ready Scorecards” to evaluate the health of systems pre-launch
  • Implement and teach monitoring, alerting and automated resolution best practices
  • Define SLIs, SLOs with Engineering teams
  • Educate and guide Engineering teams on reliability and resiliency best practices, like statelessness, chaos testing, blue/green deployments etc.
  • Build operational tooling and automations

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years using monitoring, alerting, and automation tooling to understand and remediate performance and health issues in systems at scale
  • Good knowledge for various cloud technology providers like AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Experience in a code-first environment, developing automated solutions to solve support and operational issues
  • Experience as a Technical Leader within a team, helping evaluating and making tech decisions for the team
  • Experience working with containerization such as Nomad, EKS (k8s), Docker, etc.
  • Experience working with Configuration Management such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet
  • Experience writing scripts or cli tools that help increase Developer Productivity in high-level languages like Python, Go, etc.
  • Experience analyzing system and application performance, identifying bottlenecks, and recommending architectural or systemic improvements
  • Experience working with Engineering teams, teaching, training, and mentoring on how to implement best-practice technical solutions

What You'll Do

What You'll Need

  • Deep knowledge of best practices for cloud environments, including security, cost optimization, operational excellence, reliability, and performance efficiency.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking principles, protocols, and security best practices for high-performance solutions.
