The Role:

We are searching for a skilled AWS DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable infrastructure solutions on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This role demands expertise in cloud architecture, automation, CI/CD pipelines, and a solid understanding of best practices for deploying and managing applications in AWS environments. The AWS DevOps Engineer will closely collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of software products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain AWS infrastructure solutions using services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, ECS, and others.
  • Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines for automated application deployment and release processes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer or similar role, with a focus on AWS cloud environments.
  • Strong understanding of AWS services and their capabilities, including but not limited to EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, Route 53, Lambda, and RDS.
  • Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes or Amazon ECS.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Golang for automation tasks.
  • Hands-on experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as CloudWatch, ELK Stack, Prometheus, or Grafana.
  • Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Key technical resource for handling outage situations and RCA creation.

  • Root cause analysis of high complexity issues that are recurring in nature by working closely with the Cloud Problem Management team. Employs DMAIC approach to problem solving.

Continual Improvement:

  • Provide suggestions for improvement and draft work instructions for activities that do not have documented instructions

  • Develop training/mentoring plans for team members

Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience with a scripting language like bash or python, as well as linux

  • Resilient problem solver capable of doing whatever it takes to get work done in service of our peers as well as the entire Gusto customer base.
  • Effective communicator that can simplify complex topics and communicate persuasive ideas

Potentially Relevant Experience:

  • Experience designing elegant but simple systems that optimize for resiliency, but can be easily maintained and operated upon
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS (preferred), GCP, or Azure and correlated IaaS management tools such Terraform (preferred) or pulumi, as well as orchestration layers like Kubernetes
  • Experience leading incident remediation for complex systems

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $144,000/yr to $231,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $174,000/yr to $272,000/yr for San Francisco & New York. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.

 

 


Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 daysper week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. 

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.

  • Migration: Azure Migrate
  • Programmation : IaC, PowerShell, Python
  • Devops : Azure DevOps, Git, Docker, Kubernetes
