The website is often the first interaction someone will have with the Starling brand. As Head of Digital -  Web & SEO you will be responsible for ensuring that this interaction for a prospective customer brings the delightful Starling banking experience to life so that they have a clear understanding of our product offering and how it can serve their needs. For existing customers you will be ensuring we meet their needs from a support perspective - whether that’s finding product information or help content to answer their query. You will lead a multi-skilled team - caring about how the brand and product proposition leads to conversion, that existing customers are supported with information that meets their needs, and that organic search and acquisition opportunities are maximised.

What you’ll be doing:

Strategy

  • Setting the strategy for organic customer growth through the website by:
    • Defining the vision and setting out the roadmap for the website to be best-in-class
    • Setting the SEO strategy to increase the visibility of the website in search results, as well as optimising for click-through traffic

Content management

  • You and your team will be responsible for managing and updating content from all areas of the bank, to support existing as well as new customers
  • Publishing content to meet our legal and regulatory requirements
  • Work with the in-house Studio team and subject matter experts to define and maintain a consistent tone of voice and visual identity across the website
  • Produce new content and optimise existing content to support the product and brand growth ambitions

SEO

  • Work with the SEO Manager in your team to:
    • Create new content and optimise existing content to target search demand opportunities
    • Make technical SEO optimisations
    • Ensure the overall site health is maintained
    • Execute the SEO strategy

Data and insights

  • Analysing, measuring and reporting on performance across all the areas you will cover and identifying learnings, and areas of opportunity
  • Proactively identifying opportunities to generate, capture and convert demand through the channels you lead
  • Planning conversion optimisation and user tests with the Optimisation team
  • Carry out research, user testing, and analyse internal data to discover audience insights that will shape the strategy
  • Conduct competitor analysis to provide context to performance and influence the strategy

Project management

  • Be comfortable with working at pace and in an agile environment, to adapt to business priorities and the rate of product developments
  • Aligning with the wider Marketing leaders to set out priorities
  • You’ll be part of a wider team and work closely with brand, product marketing, channel owners, web engineering and studio
  • Build a strong network across the bank and work closely with teams such as; product, banking, data, compliance, legal, operations and customer service
  • Ensure that content is published and projects are run efficiently and effectively

Web development and maintenance

  • Work with the web engineering team to oversee the workflow of all requirements and ensure it’s aligned to business priorities
  • Working closely with the web engineering team and studio team to deliver web projects
  • Ensure the website meets the accessibility needs of a wide audience
  • Manage process workflows and look for opportunities to improve ways of working
  • Manage tagging and tracking using Google Tag Manager

About the role

Here at Starling we are growing, and we are keen to recruit an Information Security Lead as part of our continued investment in Information and Cyber Security capability. Reporting to the Information Security Director - Operations, the Security Lead will act as line manager to a team of Information Security Analysts. The successful candidate will support the continuous development and delivery of the SOC’s Triage capability.

The role will suit an ambitious information security or cyber specialist, with strong team building and leadership skills who has a desire to invest their knowledge and experience into a growing function and make a measurable impact. 

What you'll get to do

  • Lead a team of subject matter experts and analysts to ensure Information Security is managed and continuously improved in line with Bank policy and procedure.
  • Supporting the development and progression of the Information Security Analyst team from both a technical and professional perspective.
  • Support in the enhancement and continuous improvement of the Bank’s Information and Cyber Security systems, processes and procedures, and optimise reporting of identified threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Act as a point escalation for Incident Response within the Security Operations team.
  • Act as an Information Security SME for Business Continuity and Crisis Management Planning; this includes supporting cyber business impact analysis and tabletop exercises.
  • Supporting the development of the Cyber Incident Response capability and ensuring coherence with the broader response capability.
  • Assist as necessary to investigate security Incidents.
  • Support and drive the continuous improvement of Response based runbooks.
  • Support and drive the continuous development of Information Security Use Case creation, and automation playbooks. 
  • Drive the continuous development of a 24/7 OnCall Model. 
  • Working in parallel with SOC and wider security teams to increase defensive and detective controls.
  • Take responsibility and do the right thing for customers, colleagues and partners.

You will:

  • have previous experience in a similar role leading, developing and motivating a team of subject matter experts and other managers in Information and Cyber Security
  • have previous experience working in a complex IT organisation encompassing service delivery, application development and IT infrastructure.
  • An understanding of best practice within Information Security and risk management including standards such as NIST, CIS, and OWASP.
  • Practical experience utilising threat analysis models such as MITRE ATT&CK to inform the prioritisation and enhancement of detective controls and the Bank’s defensive posture.
  • have experience in acting as both Commander and SME during incidents and investigations.
  • be a Self Starter with the ability to lead, inspire and drive change through an organisation.
  • have the ability to be pragmatic while balancing the needs of the Bank against security.
  • An understanding of current and emerging threats and countermeasures and the organisational challenges to addressing these threats.
  • An understanding of Application Security threats and countermeasures.
  • A good practical knowledge of security technologies and wider business solutions including Identity and access management, SIEM, remote working and cloud technologies.
  • a good understanding of financial services and awareness of broader requirements.

    • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM),

Specific Job Skills and Responsibilities

Security Event & Incident Management:

  • Provide leadership and direction during High Priority incidents. Demonstrate command and control, whilst maintaining an overall incident perspective and ensuring the Incident Management processes are followed.
  • Produce clearly written Post-Incident reporting, and conduct Post-Incident Reviews to ensure lessons learned and remediation steps are implemented.
  • Acting as Engineering liaison, providing SME knowledge on infrastructure during an incident. 
  • Participate and contribute to threat led investigation and exercise activities providing guidance and recommendation on improvements for implementation.
  • Stay abreast of current industry trends relevant to the business and cybersecurity.

Security Information & Event Management Development:

  • Identify, prioritise, define, and enhance log ingestion (including new sources) into the organisations SIEM & SOAR enabling continuous improvement in event detection, incident analysis and response.
  • Enable and continuously improve the automation of processes within the wider security operations team leading to effective, timely and scalable response in the evolving threat landscape.
  • Support the development of log pipelines to the SIEM, collaborating with wider technology teams across requisite architecture, in particular data engineering.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of log parsing capabilities.
  • Ensure technical development within security operations is aligned to wider system development life cycle and operating procedures.
  • Ensure security operations development and automation is clearly documented providing knowledge share to the wider security operations team as appropriate.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, review and advise on security log architecture to enable development of effective detection controls and performant log ingestion.
  • Evaluate new solutions and improvements to existing telemetry and processes based on incident outcomes and capability assessments; identify and propose practicable proportionate improvements.

About the Role:

Working within our engineering team, you will be responsible for the application and infrastructure used to support our PostgreSQL databases. This will include:

  • Working within the DBA team to build out our Database Manager application used to manage and monitor our databases.
  • Working with our teams to understand their database needs and make adjustments from an application and infrastructure standpoint. 
  • Monitoring and optimising the performance of databases
  • Query analysis to understand how our databases are being used
  • Allocating for systems requirements and planning future needs
  • Working within the team to understand how to manage and maintain Postgres database infrastructure
  • Monitor and optimise the performance of our ever growing PostgreSQL database.
  • Keep our database estate up to date - both from a vulnerability management and supported Postgres version point of view
  • Managing and monitoring data replication
  • Lead regular disaster recovery testing initiatives
  • Own and improve technical documentation and processes for database tasks - enabling teams to self help with e.g. allocating system storage and planning storage needs; performing upgrades; optimising database queries
  • Own and improve monitoring dashboards and alerts
  • Own cost optimisation - reviewing and proposing recommendations for optimising database footprint, including reserved instance lifecycle management 
  • Embrace automation and be reluctant for manual implementation
  • Implement security best practices
  • Demonstrate knowledge of new technologies and changes in the industry

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following: 

  • Proven experience working as a DBA
  • Experience of using infrastructure as code. Preferably Terraform 
  • Experience working with AWS RDS Postgres or GCP Cloud SQL databases 
  • Understanding of Postgres administration, monitoring, disaster recovery and performance tuning
  • Self-motivated person able to drive change, take initiative and own their work
  • Ability to communicate at all levels of the business to understand the users needs 
  • Built and deployed PostgreSQL clusters into production (would consider Oracle/MySQL and similar technologies)
  • Knowledge of Postgres configuration settings
  • A strong understanding of Postgres’ vacuum/MVCC process

  • Lead the Bank’s work to develop its retail product offering.   • Manage a team of Retail Product Specialists including through setting clear objectives and supporting development.   
  • Be responsible for keeping abreast with market trends, competitor activity and regulatory/legal changes which may impact the retail proposition. 
  • Lead ongoing monitoring of the Bank’s product and develop the Bank’s Product MI. You will help to establish new product performance metrics, define triggers and monitor these on an ongoing basis to ensure the product is delivering good customer outcomes.  

  • Significant experience of retail products (either assets or liabilities). 
  • Understanding of customer needs and challenges in a financial services organisation, with past experience within Financial Services a must. 
  • Experience of leading product development, governance and monitoring.
  • Experience in collaborating effectively across a variety of business areas and ability to interact effectively with all levels.

About the role

This role is pivotal within Engine’s Product & Technology Proposition function, in making sure we understand the client needs, sell the right thing, and build the right product. We’re looking for a specialist in Core Banking / Finance to own and shape our product in this area. At Engine this domain primarily covers product configuration, interest calculation, and ledgers/accounting.

Your background

  • You have a background in Finance/Accountancy.

About the role

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of marketing and communication campaigns across digital and traditional platforms.

About the Role

As Engine is Starling’s SaaS offering we hold all of the data that is needed to run our client banks. We need to model, extract, join, format and ultimately securely share data with our clients so they can get insights into their business, build regulatory reports and run marketing campaigns. 

We’re already sharing millions of rows of data with our clients everyday and this is set to grow over the coming years. We’re investing in our reporting tooling so we can give our clients better insights - and faster.

As a Data Engineer you’ll be at the heart of our reporting tooling, adding new data features and improving how we expose new entities to our clients. You’ll also be helping to build tooling so we can get better visibility into data lineage, data quality and how accurate our documentation is. You’ll also be assisting our platform engineers to improve modelling of new features in a way that helps clients to use the data later.

What you’ll get to do

  • Shape the future data strategy at Engine, including approaches, tooling and architecture.
  • Develop data as a core product offering for Engine, working with and responding to client feedback and market analysis.
  • Hire, build, coach and mentor a data engineering team to implement the future of data in Engine.
  • Understand, build and develop data integration and warehousing solutions
  • Obtain a wide and varied understanding of how our client banks operate
  • Explore ways to monitor and enhance data quality and reliability
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimising data delivery, etc.
  • Work with cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, GCP) for hosting data solutions and applications
  • Collaborate with clients, solution architects and other engineers to help meet the client goals

  • Experience building strong data engineering teams
  • Proven experience in development and maintenance of a cloud-based data warehouse
  • Experience working across multiple teams, delivering complex outcomes across multiple domains
  • Experience working cross-functionally with technologists from other specialties, and non-technical stakeholders across the business
  • Exposure to data capabilities outside of engineering (e.g. data catalogue, data modelling, data lineage, data governance, data visualisation/reporting and compliance)
  • Strong experience with SQL and relational databases
  • Experience with Python or Java-based data processing frameworks such as Beam, Dataflow, Spark etc. 
  • Good understanding of DevOps practices and Infrastructure as Code
  • Good knowledge of data engineering tooling such as; dbt, Debezium
  • Experience with data quality tooling (e.g. Great Expectations)
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment

About the Role

Here at Starling we are growing, and we are keen to recruit an Information Security Director as part of our continued investment in Information and Cyber Security capability.  Reporting to the CISO, the Information Security Director will act as a subject matter expert supporting a specific business line/function.  The successful candidate will lead the continuous improvement of our Information Security capabilities.

  • Manage and maintain the Information Security Policy Framework across Starling Bank that addresses the needs of the Bank, its customers, employees and other stakeholders in line with relevant legislation and industry standards.
  • Oversee the Bank’s Information and Cyber Security systems, processes and procedures, and optimise reporting of identified threats and vulnerabilities. 
  • Manage the Bank’s developing Information Security and Cyber Maturity Framework, including security controls assessment, and mapping of the plan to attain accreditation, e.g. ISO/IEC 27001. 
  • Maintain the Information Security Risk Register and ensure coherence with the Bank’s Risk Management framework.
  • Act as an Information Security point of contact for Business Continuity and Crisis Management Planning; this includes responsibility for initiation and execution of cyber business impact analysis. 
  • Oversee and contribute to Cyber Incident Response and ensure coherence with the broader business operational and technology response capability.
  • Liaise with external bodies and organisations to keep abreast of emerging trends, technologies and legislation that have an impact on Information Security. 
  • Assist as necessary to investigate security breaches and pursue associated disciplinary and legal matters.

Working within our engineering team, you will be responsible for the application and infrastructure used to support our PostgreSQL databases. This will include:

  • Working within the DBA team to build out our Database Manager application used to manage and monitor our databases.

About the role

We’re looking for a Principal Backend Software Engineer to help build out our engineering team in Sydney, to work on the Engine Platform and make our existing features work for banks all over the world as well as building new features from scratch that Starling hasn’t released in the UK market.

This is an exciting opportunity to build a team from scratch and grow the Starling culture into a new region.

What you'll get to do:

  • Support, grow, mentor and lead the team through being their manager
  • Work with our clients to understand their needs and help solve their problems
  • Define best practices for Technology and enable quality work

About you:

  • a capable tech lead
  • able to understand complex systems and design solutions to difficult problems
  • comfortable talking to external teams to collaborate on delivering for clients
  • an experienced Java engineer with cloud experience

  • Microservice based architecture
  • Kubernetes (EKS)
  • TeamCity for CI / CD (lots of team are releasing code 15-20 times per day!)
  • Terraform and Grafana

About the Role

Our infrastructure spans across AWS, Google Cloud and our physical data centres to support our internal operations. You will work within the Security Engineering team to engineer and support the technical mechanisms that ensure that the bank's systems and data remain secure at all times.

  • Designing, building and maintaining internal security tools, services and the infrastructure they run on;
  • Helping the Security Team to automate security processes and procedures;
  • Investigation, triage and management of security incidents;
  • Contribution to Starling’s secure architecture design;

We’re open-minded when it comes to hiring and we care more about aptitude and attitude than specific experience or qualifications. Below is an overview of experience that would be helpful:

  • Experience in programming in Golang
  • Knowledge of public cloud technologies, in particular AWS and GCP
  • Some experience of using IAC technologies such as Terraform and Kubernetes
  • Experience of working in any software development role; DevOps, SRE or Security Engineering experience is a nice to have
  • Some knowledge of certification management, mTLS and SCEP is a plus

About the Role

This role will put you at the heart of Engine’s Delivery function, where you’ll be responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of the Engine platform for our clients. You’ll work on large-scale programmes, end-to-end, where you’ll be expected to manage day-to-day delivery across a number of workstreams as well as managing a small team of product consultants. 

You’ll work with clients and systems integrators to understand the client requirements and share expert knowledge in the Engine platform, aiming to help global banking organisations tackle their problems with a technology centred approach. You will be the programme lead, bringing your project management and product knowledge to ensure a successful implementation of the Engine platform. You will be expected to have an in-depth knowledge of banking and technology to support client needs, you’ll also work closely with the Engine engineering teams to feedback feature requests, and localisations. 

What you'll get to do

  • Manage the Engine delivery team for a particular client implementation, ensuring we meet programme delivery timescales and leading on the Engine implementation through all stages of the delivery lifecycle
  • Build strong relationships with the client and partner teams at all levels
  • Work closely with the programme’s solution architects and engineers on the localisation and configuration of the Engine Platform
  • Use your understanding of the Engine product to bring the necessary knowledge to teams in different locations round the world
  • Work closely with the Engineering team in the UK to reach agreement on programme schedule and requirements
  • Work with the wider Engine team, with specific domain knowledge, to present a clear and compelling solution to the client
  • Lead on demos of the product to clients
  • Work with the Engine Product team to ensure product documentation is kept up to date
  • Support with testing, iterative build process and go live for the client
  • Support local integration work by bringing Engine and Starling knowledge
  • You have worked in client facing roles, in a consulting role, or at a technology company. With around 5 or more years of experience. 
  • You have some experience in financial services and technology delivery
  • You have experience delivering complex programmes through all stages of the delivery lifecycle 
  • You can  rapidly understand client problems and present solutions in a structured and informative manner
  • You are a strong communicator and have experience of working with clients or senior stakeholders
  • We are looking for someone who will be excited by the potential for Engine’s technology to transform banking in different markets around the world
