We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with a blend of skills of software engineering and operations. A person who truly believes and lives by DevOps principles and values. The roles includes working within the SRE team but interacting with all feature and platform teams to deliver state of the art solutions that ensures availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning of our service and applications. What will you do

  • As part of the SRE team you will be participating in design and implementing parts of our engineering platform that enables scaling, metrics and observability, ensures and improves reliability.
  • Identify gaps in our engineering platform that improves availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, emergency response
  • Guide and mentor other people on the team and help them grow their skills and knowledge
  • Evangelise DevOps and SRE culture and lead the innovation across engineering feature teams
  • Become part of a PagerDuty based on-call rotation

Skills & Experience

  • Comfortable and happy to code in Python and Java. Experience writing commercial application code in Java.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of Computer Engineering fundamentals and first principles
  • Deep understanding of scaling solutions both on infrastructure level ( caching layers, database replicas, sharding, partitioning, etc ) and architectural level (denormalisation, CQRS-ES, Federation, etc )
  • Experience building and working with and monitoring microservice architectures in large distributed cloud environments (ideally AWS).
  • Experience with Observability tooling – having proficiency using tools like Elasticsearch, Kibana, APM, Sentry, Grafana, Prometheus, Overops, or similar
  • The ability to guide and mentor other members within the team and improve the way we collaborate, learn, and share ideas
  • Documentation and internal team members alignment; therefore strong written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Excellent collaboration skills to be able to work closely with product engineers and product owners to understand their context and co-design appropriate solutions which balance feature velocity with site reliability
  • Version control and CI/CD – Jenkins, git, bitbucket, GitLab, liquibase
  • Experience in using SQL / NoSQL data stores – RDS, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, Solr

Responsibilities

Your impact

As a System Engineer Enterprise Infrastructure, you will maintain and expand enterprise infrastructure and services. 

Furthermore, you will: 

  • Design and enhance the corporate environment across external and internal SaaS and PaaS.
  • Build and manage Enterprize's corporate access management platforms. Corporate identity (Okta Identity Engine), access management platforms (Opal. dev).
  • Ensure that corporate IAM complies with the "optimal" level of CISA's Zero Trust Maturity Model and participates in organizational changes that drive the transition to that "optimal" level.
  • Follow the Access Management Maturity Level guidelines to meet the least privileged access model.
  • Design and support the global IAM processes.

What You'll Need

As an Engineer at Tide, you’ll report directly to the People Manager and Staff Engineer (Functional) and work in a team of highly skilled Engineers.

  • Knowledge of Google Analytics, Salesforce, HubSpot, and/or ZenDesk is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Looker or Tableau is a plus.

The Impact U will make:

The Senior Software Engineer’s responsibilities and duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Create an events-driven autonomous system, the Platform Control Plane (PCP), with the goal of centrally managing all facets of the hundreds of deployments of our core platform
  • Work with several engineering departments, Infrastructure, SRE, Core Platform, and departments on the business side, Production Support, Solutions Architecture and multiple others
  • Create the automation architecture that allows Unqork to scale to 1000+ clients
  • Serve on a team of technical architects and developers building new automation use cases for the control plane
  • Work with other engineering teams and key stakeholders in the technology organization with the goal of reducing developer pain points

As a Principal Engineer (Infrastructure Engineering), you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure that supports our mission-critical applications and services. The infrastructure engineering team’s mission is to develop and maintain cloud infrastructure to ensure Personio runs on a platform that is reliable, scalable, and easy to operate. We measure the effectiveness of this mission through operational metrics which prompt us to proactively create and scale new infrastructure when needed, and we have a specific ownership of the availability and operation of the AWS cloud infrastructure which is the basis of our platform.

Role Responsibilities: What you'll do
  • Technical Leadership: Lead and mentor infrastructure engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of excellence. 
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to research, design, and implement robust, scalable infrastructure solutions. Work closely with Engineering teams to optimize application performance and reliability in the infrastructure.
  • Roadmap Development: Develop and maintain a roadmap for infrastructure projects and scalability requirements (10x scale).
  • Implementation: Implement best practices for infrastructure management, monitoring, and automation to ensure high availability and reliability. 
  • Operations: Operational rigor to ensure infrastructure security and incident management.
How you’ll go about it:
  • Proven track record of leading the architecture and design of new and existing systems with AWS.
  • Experience designing and building scalable software to handle 10x load increases and 100x peak traffic spikes.
  • Maintain open and clear communication and foster a collaborative work environment with team members, stakeholders, and management. 
  • ‘'Platform as a product' mindset with strategic thinking. 
  • Ability to navigate technical debates and drive technical alignment.
Role Requirements: What you need to succeed
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 10+ yrs of experience building and designing scalable applications, tools, or distributed systems.
  • Proven track record of technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and hiring. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one backend programming language.
  • Strong expertise the following technologies; Kubernetes (k8s), ECS Fargate, RDS, Aurora, Postgres, MySQL, MariaDB, MKS (Kafka), S3, AWS Backup,  AWS DMS, Lambda, EC2, DynamoDB.
  • Familiarity with one or more of our language stacks: Terraform, CDK, Java/Kotlin (JVM, Gradle, SpringBoot), Golang, and TypeScript.
