What You’ll Do

  • Build out beautiful and easy to use interfaces to deliver an industry-leading ML and AI cloud
  • Bring the best models, tooling, workflows, etc from the AI space to our platform
  • Own features end-to-end, from design to deployment to monitoring

You

  • Have frontend web app development experience – Minimum of 6 years building product-grade “responsive” frontend software using:
    • Typescript
    • React (or equivalent strong experience in Vue or Svelte)
    • HTML and modern CSS
    • Vite
  • Have backend web app development experience– Minimum of 8 years of experience implementing business critical services, from initial conception to successful launch using:
    • Python, Unix/Command line
    • Django or FastAPI
    • Relational database like PostgreSQL or MySQL
  • Have CI/CD experience – Automation around testing and deployment to create a smooth developer experience
  • Have reliability & observability experience– Building highly available systems and SRE work including observability, alerting, and logging
  • Have experience with Cloud Native Services – Strong understanding of public cloud features like Cloudflare, Okta, AWS, etc.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Kubernetes
  • IaC (Terraform, Atlantis, Crossplane,  etc)
  • Worked with event-based or serverless technologies (AWS Lambda, Kinesis, etc)
  • Experience in machine learning, AI, or data science fields
  • Held a leadership role, with the ability to lead and mentor junior team members

Salary Range Information 

Based on market data and other factors, the salary range for this position is $169,000-$243,000. However, a salary higher or lower than this range may be appropriate for a candidate whose qualifications differ meaningfully from those listed in the job description.

What you'll do

Cloudflare's R2 Storage is distributed object storage accessible through Cloudflare's infrastructure allowing customers–both internal and external–the convenience of accessing their data from anywhere with the reliability and performance of Cloudflare infrastructure. In this role, you'll work with a top-notch engineering team to drive R2 Storage forward by ensuring continual reliability, maintaining best-in-class performance, and implementing new features and functionality.

You will own your code from inception to release, delivering solutions at all layers of the software stack to empower Cloudflare customers. On any given day, you might write a design document that outlines how you plan to solve a specific problem, modify how R2 Storage processes requests, or fix a bug in how our user experience renders. You can expect to interact with a variety of languages and technologies including, but not limited to JavaScript, Typescript, Rust, and C++.

Examples of desirable skills, knowledge and experience

  • Minimum 8 years of experience working with distributed systems.
  • Experience building and managing high volume software applications.
  • Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented or functional design.
  • Knowledge of at least one modern strongly-typed programming language: we primarily use Go, TypeScript, and Rust.
  • Experience debugging, optimizing and identifying failure modes in a large-scale distributed system.

Bonus Points

  • Experience building and managing a large scale data storage platform.

Compensation

The Position

You'll be joining a team of over 200 engineers spanning across Frontend, Backend, SRE and QA.

We're organized into cross-functional development teams assigned to specific verticals and as the first Principal Engineer at Remote, you will partner closely with 15 staff engineers across the business.

Our backend is built with Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database. We use Typescript, React and Nextjs for our front-end. Gitlab is used as a version control tool and CI/CD solution. Our applications are hosted on AWS. We fully rely on our CI for deployments and deploy multiple times per day.

Key responsibilities

Our Infrastructure Operations team is critical for success at Abarca Health. They handle the days in and days out of the entire architecture of our systems from data processing to server updates and stability. Our data lifecycle is secure under the watch of the Database Administration team. They focus on our portfolio of data products through areas such as cloud storage, retrieval, archiving, governance, policies, and other areas!

As our valued Senior Database Administrator (SDBA) you will be responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of our knowledge base. You will also be involved in the planning and development of the database as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of users.

The fundamentals for the job…

  • Make sure that data remains consistent throughout the database, data is clearly defined, users access data concurrently in a form that suits their needs, and there’s a provision for data security and recovery control.
  • Establish users' needs and monitor user access and security, including control access permissions and privileges.
  • Monitor performance and manage parameters to provide fast response to front-end users.
  • Map out the conceptual design for a planned database.
  • Consider both back-end organization of data and front-end accessibility for end-users.
  • Refine the logical design so it can be translated into a specific data model.
  • Further refine the physical design to meet system storage requirements, including capacity planning.
  • Install and test new versions of the DBMS.
  • Maintain data standards, including adherence to applicable regulations such as HIPAA.
  • Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata).
  • Develop, manage, and test backup and recovery plans.
  • Ensure that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly.
  • Work closely with Infrastructure Analysts and Developers.
  • Communicate regularly with technical, applications, and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security.

What we expect of you

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer engineering, Computer Science, Technology, or a related field. (In lieu of a degree, equivalent relevant work experience may be considered.)
  • 6+ years of experience within database administration related roles 
  • Experience with Network troubleshooting, Microsoft Active Directory, structured query language (SQL), relational database management systems, customer service oriented, and strong critical and analytical thinking.
  • Availability to work rotating or irregular shifts, including weekends and certain holidays, per business or operational needs.
