THE ROLE

Currently we are focused on providing equitable solutions to historically under-resourced communities of learners and teachers, and guided by our Engineering Principles. On the Product team, you might work on projects such as:

• Integrating state of the art learning science into our product to enable learners and teachers to quickly identify and address learning gaps on the fly.
• Partnering with public school districts with a high percentage of Free and Reduced Price Lunch students to build and scale our teacher and learner tools to millions of learners who otherwise would not have discovered us.
• Building tools for teachers to use Khan Academy as a strategic supplement in their classrooms.

With the recent launch of Khanmigo and Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a technology, this role will help harness the power of AI to deliver the product capabilities where applicable.

WHAT YOU BRING

• 5+ years experience building world-class product experiences for an interactive web-app. In particular, you have built and maintained scalable backend services, as well as complex, stateful frontend user interfaces.
• Strong technical project management skills, as our Senior Software Engineers often lead projects.
• Experience building and maintaining complex software. You’ll join us in writing clean, maintainable software that solves hard problems. You’ll write testable, quality code. You’ll push the team and the mission forward with your contributions.

The target salary range for this position is $137,781 - $172,339 USD / $172,226 - $215,424 CAD. The pay range for this position is a general guideline only. The Basics (Hybrid Role - Part-time IN office)

Hims and Hers is seeking a highly motivated, talented, and experienced Lead Fullstack Engineer to join our dynamic Storefront Platform team. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering, product, analytics teams, to deliver high-impact features on time and within scope. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the development of our storefront platform team, ensuring a seamless developer experience for the Hims & Hers Growth engineering team, and driving the adoption of best practices in frontend development. This role is pivotal to leveling up the storefront platform team to deliver more significant and more complex features.

You Will:

• Lead any future development and deployment of features requested from the storefront platform.
• Implement scalable and performant solutions like implementation of fast and reliable CircleCI pipelines, migration of AWS compute infrastructure, integration of business-critical tools.
• Coach, mentor, and set best practices for architecture, coding, delivery, and operation within your pod.
• Collaborate and build trust in other engineering pods and teams, develop reusable, scalable designs, write and collaborate in RFCs, and build architecture diagrams that benefit the entire organization 
• Partner with key stakeholders in product, analytics, cross-functional engineering teams, and project management guiding decisions based on your knowledge of the codebase.
• Contribute to the strategic vision for the platform pod as a technical leader, identifying new technologies that improve security, scalability, reliability, and performance. 
• Collaborate with backend and quality engineers to spec, write, test, and deploy code that powers hims.com and forhers.com. 
• Actively participate in sprint ceremonies to help drive continuous improvement in our process and culture 

You Have:

• 10+ years experience in software engineering, preferably in a growth-focused engineering environment.
• A strong understanding of modern web technologies (React, GraphQL, Javascript, Typescript, HTML5, CSS3)
• Strong undersderstanding in AWS (EKS, S3, Terraform), CDNs, Docker, Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of component and platform library creation. 
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.
• Strong understanding of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility. 
• Ability to move quickly and set clear deadlines. 
• Strong prioritization skills with the ability to manage competing projects and align the delivery expectations with stakeholders.
• Familiarity with cloud hosting providers such as AWS

The Opportunity

As a Senior Software Engineer of the Science Technology Organization, you would be working with a set of highly motivated and talented engineers to build cloud applications on latest technologies that scientists rely on every day in ways that enable them to draw more meaningful conclusions, or biological insights, more quickly. By making our tools, methods, and quality data sets accessible to a diverse set of scientists, clinicians, and patient communities, we contribute to the rate at which biomedical science can understand and advance human health.

This role will work with Product Managers, UX Designers/Researchers, Application Scientists and other Engineers to design, build and maintain user-facing web applications for SciTech products using  modern technologies and architecture design patterns. 

Responsibilities will span multiple CZI products over time. Projects have included:

• CryoET Data Portal - The portal provides biologists and developers open access to high-quality, standardized, annotated data they can readily use to retrain or develop new annotation models and algorithms
• CZ CELLxGENE - A rich data platform with interfaces that enable any computational or biological expert to understand the molecular function of cells and tissues
• Virtual Cells - A platform for scientists to build, collaborate and contribute to the AI powered virtual cells which would enable scientists to explore the molecular underpinnings of human health and diseases

What You'll Do

• Solve challenging scientific software problems using your engineering skills
• Work in a multi-disciplinary team, with engineers, product managers, applications scientists, data scientists, UX researchers and designers, to define product plans and deliver on roadmaps

Compensation

The Redwood City, CA base pay range for this role is 190,000.00 - 285,000.00 USD Annual. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process. Pay ranges outside Redwood City are adjusted based on cost of labor in each respective geographical market.
