Description

Position Overview 

As the leader in the engineering technical writing team in the Digital Farming Solutions division of Bayer Crop Science, you will get to work with a team of writers and coders to create a reliable information architecture, then implement and support it for the org. You will originate, edit, and update documents reference manuals, and other communications for programming and scientific audiences ranging from moderately to deeply technical. You will work with technical teams across the org, gathering requirements and delivering targeted documentation to educate, uphold, and maintain the technical knowledge of the engineers, and place those docs into a framework that allows for straightforward searching, access, and presentation.  These frameworks include SharePoint, and git-based markdown renderers like MkDocs and Sphinx, both of which offer unique workflow controls: you will help create and enforce document approval workflows and honor doc lifecycle and retention policies.

 

While technical communication naturally involves the composition of clear technical documentation, the accessibility and presentation of that data is of equal importance. You have a natural desire to help people understand things that are hard to understand and have ample empathy for their documentation and information discovery needs. You will partner with technical teams and cultivate knowledge champions and technical experts for key topics.

What You Will Do: 

  • Lead a technical writing effort delivering documentation of complex technical topics 
  • Manage external requests and a backlog for the team 
  • Edit comprehensive documentation that meets organizational and editorial standards 
  • Translate complex product information into simple, polished, and engaging content 
  • Evaluate current content presentation and develop innovative approaches for improvement 
  • Consult with subject matter experts and content owners to ensure that specialized topics are appropriately and correctly documented 
  • Ensure SharePoint and markdown information presentation is clear and allows for easy location of and access to content
  • Create, adapt, and follow project schedules and deadlines 
  • Remain up to date on technological and product developments 
  • Gather feedback about needed improvements and missing docs and address those needs

 

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Forge relationships with leaders at all levels across the engineering org  
  • Research, outline, write and edit new and existing content, working closely with various departments to understand project requirements 
  • Gather information from subject matter experts to develop, organize, and write procedure manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation 
  • Create, and maintain information architecture templates that uphold organizational and legal standards, and allow for easy data presentation 
  • Develop content in alternative media presentation forms for maximum usability, with a consistent and cohesive voice across all documentation 

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical or communications field 
  • 6+ years of experience as an effective technical writer 
  • 6+ years as a managing editor of a technical communications team 
  • Experience with git, markdown, Microsoft Word, and SharePoint
  • Experience with software development

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail 
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, with an eye for prioritization 
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex topics 
  • Firm understanding of a systems development lifecycle 
  • Intermediate to advanced SharePoint administration and management skills

We are looking for an experienced technical writer who will write and illustrate product documentation and materials for various audiences including end users, administrators, and developers. A day in the life

  • Write, edit, review, and publish software documentation including user guides, installation guides, quick-reference guides, release notes, system administration and configuration guides, integration and deployment guides, and online help topics following approved technical writing processes and styles
  • Develop basic graphics to illustrate material
  • Become an expert in the software products you document
  • Work within an Agile software development environment
  • Collaborate with designers, subject-matter experts, and product owners to understand the products and new features, then use that information to write customer-facing materials
  • Validate deliverables for accuracy, readability, and usability
  • Understand and use best practices for localization and translation
  • Provide UI/UX input and feedback to UI/UX designers and product owners.
  • Function as a customer advocate by providing feedback to our internal teams related to product improvements.
  • Work with minimal supervision

Role progression

Within 1 month, you’ll:

  • Complete our technical communications onboarding process
  • Meet your team and learn the details of our business, and where we’re going
  • Familiarize yourself with our technology by working with teammates, installing software, and using the existing documentation to learn the products
  • Familiarize yourself with our procedures, styles, and tools
  • Learn the Agile methodology used for software development as it is applied at Litera

Within 3 months, you’ll:

  • Be assigned your own products to document using the procedures, styles, and tools provided
  • Follow the Agile methodology for daily standups, and meet with the product owners of your products as needed (at least once every two weeks) to review your information and ask questions to ensure you have what you need to document the ongoing development

Within 6 months, you’ll:

About you

Purpose of your Team and Role

As a technical writer at Palo Alto Networks, you will help our customers bolster the security of their operations and critical data in the public cloud and mitigate cloud security and compliance risks that threaten their ability to drive digital business.   • Minimum 5 years of proven technical writing experience with topic-based writing and delivering content to enable a rich and engaging learning experience for users. For example, you have created deployment guides, onboarding tutorials, use case examples, best practices guides, and/or blogs that enable customer success.

  • Proficient with DITA, structured FrameMaker, Markdown, and AcrobatPro. Experience with Adobe AEM highly desirable. 

  • Video tutorial creation (Camtasia), and/or proficiency developing illustrations (Adobe Illustrator or Google Slides) is desirable. 

  • Experience with source control tools (Perforce, GitHub), and bug tracking/collaboration tools (Jira/Confluence).

Education:

BA/BS or equivalent experience required.

Job Description

The Content Writer will join the global Training & Communication team at HISP UiO, supporting our communications work by writing detailed informational material about the use of DHIS2 in different countries and contexts, including its integration with other software systems and the resulting real-world impact. The Content Writer will work closely with product and functional teams at HISP UiO and in the global HISP network to identify implementations and tools that are of interest to the global DHIS2 community, assemble the necessary information to present them in detail, and write informational texts for a variety of formats, platforms and audiences.

What you’ll do:
We are seeking a Content Writer to strengthen our efforts to provide detailed, relevant information about the implementation and use of DHIS2 to help countries and organizations around the world benefit from best practices, existing solutions and new innovations. Successful candidates will be able to work with and interview international teams to identify topics of interest and develop them into robust written pieces that both convey sufficient technical detail to facilitate reuse and adaptation of these practices and communicate the larger significance for a non-technical audience of stakeholders, donors and decision makers.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work with the Communications Lead, DHIS2 core team and HISP groups to identify topics of interest to the global DHIS2 community.
  • Research, analyze and document DHIS2 implementations, tools, applications and integrations.
  • Interview subject matter experts to gain insight into DHIS2 projects and implementations, including a high degree of technical detail.
  • Write, format, edit, review, and proof informational materials for both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Prepare, review, revise and maintain written material for a variety of channels, including the DHIS2 website, documentation platform, and newsletter, among others.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • At least three years of professional writing experience, preferably related to technology and/or digital health
