Students\' Society of McGill University is hiring a Remote Community Engagement Commissioner

Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Community Engagement Commissioner is to assist the Vice-President (External Affairs) with community engagement and the community engagement committee.

Responsibilities

  1. To serve as secretary of the SSMU Community Engagement Committee and perform all tasks associated with that position: calling meetings and notifying members of such meetings; preparing agendas to be distributed to members;  keeping minutes for each meeting to be distributed to each member and submitted to the Vice-President (External Affairs)

  2. Performing all tasks relating to the administration of the Community Engagement Fund: advertising the availability of such funds (including maintaining and updating the CEC website and Facebook page); bringing applications to the Communication Engagement Committee for approval;  ensuring the timely processing of checks to recipients;  informing applicants of the status of their applications; maintaining records of allocation;

  3. Presenting reports of the Community Engagement Committee and related subcommittees to the SSMU Legislative Council;

  4. Working with student groups, offices at McGill University, and community organizations  such as the CCMP (Milton-Parc Citizen’s Committee) to identify potential collaborative relationships between community organizations and McGill students;

  5. Familiarizing members of the committee with community outreach projects while ensuring that each member is connected with a project;  

  6. Launching community initiatives in tandem with the Community Affairs Commissioner to improve relations with the Milton-Parc community, local government officials and other relevant stakeholders, while working towards a more positive and sustainable lifestyle for students;

  7. Preparing an exit report which indicates lessons learned, important contacts, and any salient information for the incoming Community Engagement Commissioner.

Responsabilités

  1.   3. Présenter les rapports du Comité d'engagement communautaire et des sous-comités connexes au Conseil législatif de l'AÉUM;
  4. Travailler avec des groupes de la communauté étudiante, des bureaux de l'Université McGill et des organismes communautaires comme le CCMP Comité Citoyen de Milton Parc pour identifier les relations de collaboration potentielle entre les organismes communautaires et la communauté étudiantes de McGill;
  5. Familiariser les membres du comité avec les projets de sensibilisation communautaire tout en veillant à ce que chaque membre soit lié à un projet;  
  6. Lancer des initiatives communautaires en collaboration avec le commissaire aux affaires communautaires pour améliorer les relations avec la communauté de Milton-Parc, les représentants du gouvernement local et d'autres intervenants pertinents, tout en travaillant à un mode de vie plus positif et durable pour les élèves;
  7. Préparer un rapport de sortie qui indique les leçons apprises, les contacts importants et toute information importante pour le nouveau commissaire à l'engagement communautaire.

  9. Strong research and report-writing experience is an asset;

  10. Oral and written professional working proficiency of French is an asset;

  11. Integrity, good planning skills, interpersonal skills, high degree of organization skills.

  • Your have strong skills within React or Vue - and TypeScript
  • You have experience with leading and building large-scale web solutions
  • You are a good communicator and are comfortable handling client dialogue.
  • You have experience with and opinions on designing-in-the-browser, mobile and touch, web design, animation, accessibility, and digital communication.
  • You are always updated on modern front-end technologies like SSG, SSR etc.

    Qualifications

    • Experience with any of the modern UI frameworks like Angular, React or Vue
    • Analytical and design skills

    Overview

    You Have

    • 4+ years of software development experience
    • 3+  Experience with programming languages: Java

    • Strong Object Oriented design and implementation experience, strong knowledge of web protocols, and knowledge of distributed systems architectures.
